Animal tricks

I don't know why but I really cannot get into animals doing tricks for humans. I just don't like it.

It's one thing to make your dog shake for a treat or stay while you balance something on their head {dooce} but it's another thing to cage an animal and make money off of their talents!

Monkeys in movies acting like humans? no.
The circus? no.
RODEOS? f*ck no. {hillbillies}
Sea world? no.
Even the zoo? no.

I'm not into animals being locked up and on display for human entertainment. Even as a kid I hated the zoo. I love animals. I hate the zoo.

you know what? i have a really hard time with the zoo too. kris has year passes to the L.A. zoo and she has me on her list so i've taken avery because i want her to see the animals and learn about them but it makes me sad too. especially the monkeys. My friend Celina invited me and avery to the zoo this weekend and i really didn't want to go. luckily (or not ;-) i got really bad diarhea and couldn't go but secretly, i hate the zoo too.

I agree. I understand rehabbing animals in contained areas but otherwise it's just sad.

really? Do you think you get the experience of an animal by seeing a picture or reading about it, it's not the same as seeing it in person. Help a homeless person and watch the movie Madagascar some animals like the zoo better. ROAR!!!

I've never been a big fan of zoos - I remember going to them as a school trip with the teacher saying how important it was for us to see them for real in order to care about their welfare etc. but I cared about them before seeing them! You learn a lot more by watching a documentary of animals in their natural habitat then you could ever learn by watching a caged animal in an environment that simply isn't right for it...
