Tinkerbell Costume ~ Halloween 1980

I mean, how long have kids been going as Tinkerbell for Halloween? Forever, right? I was 4 years old here and it took about an hour on the phone last night with my mom to figure that out. I knew it though. I remembered. Because I think the same year, she went as a man and I was furious that she was leaving the house with a mustache on. "Why would you do that to yourself?" I asked her.

Mom made this costume out of green polyester and the wings were cardboard and that sash in the middle was holding them on. I wish I had the other photo my mom has where I am standing straight because you can see the bottom of the little dress better. You can barely see them but she made little green booties to wear over my shoes. ...and look at that bun she gave me! That was all my hair and I remember it being a HUGE bun ...but I was a tiny kid and I've always had ton of hair. I loved this costume! The Tinkerbell costumes of today don't even compare {though the wings are far more sophisticated now ;}

My mom also made me a Cinderella costume the same year which I wore out trick-or-treating and maybe to school? I can't remember but what I do remember to this day was that I had to wear a sweater underneath my pretty pink Cinderella dress because it was too cold out not to. And a sweater with a print on it to boot! I was pissed. It ruined the whole costume!

These comments are cracking me up!!!! so funny ....

When I was on the phone with my mom last night she told me that I LOVED costumes and getting dressed up....which made it easier for her around Halloween time. I think Tinkerbell was for a party and Cinderella was because it was cold. She did say that once I put on that costume, I became the character. My brother, on the other hand, HATED costumes. Every year it was a struggle and he changed his mind on what he wanted to be up until the last minute. His favorite was Rambo though...Mom made him some fake muscles out of a silk nude blouse...it was hilarious and he LOVED IT.

that line made my entire day, and also was almost the cause of coffee being spit out of my mouth laughing.

Ha!

You're adorable. And amazing hair at 4 and now? How do you rate?

I have to say, I loved this post! Because when I saw the pic of you in the princess outfit with the sweater underneath, I about died! I had the same experience and wanted to kill my mom. Seriously, what kind of princess wears a sweater under her dress? Lol!

Oh, I found your blog through Ashley over at clever blog name here :)

OMG Maegan how cute are you!!! Love it, you actually remind me of one of my daughters friends, adorable..

AH! You were a little doll! Sooo cute with that bun, I love it.

My mom made me wear long sleeves under one of my costumes (I think it was the Movie Star in 4th grade... apparently the pink feather boa wasn't enough to keep me warm. Still bitter.)

The last line is the best! hahahah

i love your costume, your hair, your adorable little face!

so with you on the sweater thing. I was strawberry shortcake one year, you know with those awful plastic masks that actually hurt when wearing them? My mom made me wear a big puffy jacket underneath the costume. It was the worst!

i remember those days! i had a princess outfit probably the same year you did...i always hated that it was too chilly to wear without a sweater or jacket...it ruined the look. ;-)

So cute!

I feel your sweater pain. My mom always made me wear a sweater or coat OVER my costume so no one knew what I was.

So very cute! I'm still wracking my brain for an idea this year.

Dude. Seriously? I literally gasped at the adorableness of the Tinkerbell photos. You've just confirmed that you've always been ridiculously good-looking. And now...I hate you. :p

There is nothing in the world worse than having to wear a sweatshirt under a costume no matter what the age. I have this FABULOUS wonder woman costume and I will freeze my ass off when I wear it if I have to.

Wow! Kudos to your mom for making such AWESOME costumes!! I especially love the homemade Tinkerbell costume! My daughter is going to be Tink this year, but your mom puts me to shame- I bought her costume!

Those pictures are absolutely adorable. I love your little pink dress :)

J. Leigh Designz said...

LOL! Clearly! I think the Tink pics are great! I live in MA so I hate the costumes that aren't made for things underneath them. Old navy is our friend since they have thick fleece costumes!

OMG YOU ARE SO CUTE, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!

Jenni Jiggety said...

How cute are YOU?

I'm in MA so we often had to wear a coat over ours. Laaaaame!

Chris said...

Great costumes! I remember being the same way. I woould get so pissed when I had to wear a coat over my costume (yes, a COAT here in Illinois!). It was rare when it was warm enough not to :(

dolcechic said...

Loving the costumes! You're so lucky to have such a talented mom to make these for you! I wouldn't have noticed the long sleeves had you not said anything....you don't look like an asshole either lol!

oh my gosh, you're so so so cute :)

Mrs.D said...

What a CUTE little girl you were!!! Not fair! Love the costumes, and I felt the same way about having to wear something that compromises the integrity of the costume.

That first picture!! Just adorable!!

OMG, those photos are so cute! I love that your Mom went through all that trouble to make you these costumes and not just buying something per-made.

Hey, I'm visiting from SITS. I think you look adorable. Old school costumes are the best! I'm 29 and we didn't have this store bought crap back then! My mom was forced to be creative.

LOLOLOLOL I love that you show all over your face how you felt like an asshole!!!
My mom always made our costumes too and I remember hating my mom one year for making me be Cousin It for Halloween. It was a full furry ensemble, hot as hell and I couldn't even buckle my damn seatbelt it was so huge. P.S. We live in South Florida. It was hot. I think she hated me.
