Hair Tutorial: Get Perfect Waves with a Curling Iron

loveMaegan-Louboutin-featherLBD-10

The video below is me demonstrating how I get a perfect wave with my curling iron. I also use the entire iron, wrapping my hair around the clamp as well.

Disclaimer: the first video I shot {which really showed my hair before; straight, unbrushed} was corrupt. I tried it over and over again {thus my late post} and finally I just trashed it. So this tutorial starts midway through the curl and I apologize for that.

This tutorial is done on second day dirty hair which air dried… I use a Hot Tools 1 inch barrel curling iron.

Thank you so much for the tutorial!!! I have extremely stick straight super thin hair that sucks when it comes to holding curl. I have to wash it every day because it is so thin and I have to blow dry it or it looks stringy. I have a Christmas party next Friday night and I’m going to try your wave technique. Hopefully it will turn out. Otherwise everyone at work will think I’m crazy. :)

Great video. I will try that tomorrow. Unfortunately, I’m cirsed with thinnish, straight, fine, hair that doesn’t like to curl, so I hope this will do the trick. I’ve been going from the bottom of the hair and curling up so this will be much healthier on my poor dry ends.

I am so jealous of your long hair. And I totally laughed when you said when you get your hair done at the salon it isn’t greasy for like 5 days..haha.

iMovie has to make it fuzzy so that the video will fit on utube :( The fuzziness happens when they make it smaller…

I learned a lot about curling my hair now; I would have never known that wrapping secret; I still was doing it “ol school”. What kind of curling iron do you use and do you use any hairspray? Mine is sooo thick and the humidity here in FL is awful so it will fall w/o spray.

My hair is naturally wavy already but sometimes I just want a more interesting wave and I just use a flat IRON…twist my hair around two finger – slide the hair out and place it carefully into flat iron…
I know that may be hard to understand….cute vid either way.. : )

Cool video-helpful! You are very fortunate to have such thick nice hair. I have puffy hair that just won’t grow past my shoulders. I take vitamins and try to eat foods that are good for hair growth. Unfortunately, I have resorted to hair extentions. I know extentions are not good for the hair but if I don’t have them, my hair looks awful :( Expensive, bad for my hair- it’s a vicious circle!

i have super thick and long hair too. the difference with us though is… yours looks good if you just let it dry natural. i cant do that, its too frizzy and has a gross course texture if i dont do something so it ends up being thrown in a messy bun. but you … have super pretty hair. thanks for showing me how you curl your hair. i also start at the base but your way may save a little time.. i will have to try it! thank you!

I’m so behind on my reader which is why this comment is like a week later but whatever.

Thanks for this. I love the curl you can get with your hair. My hair is about your length, maybe a bit longer but it’s super super straight and thin. I couldn’t get it to hold curl for the life of me but I’m going to try this.

    Fingers crossed!

    Question:

Well…you might not answer this for awhile since you originally posted this like a year ago…but I’ll ask anyway…

When you curl your hair like this–do you clip any of it up and curl in sections? From the video it doesn’t look like you do–or do you the top first then the bottom? I know these seem strange-ish questions–but I do have similar hair (long, thick, and lots of it) and normally I have to clip it up and do it in sections…it takes FOREVER though…suggestions?

(I know you may never respond because this is an old post…thought I’d give it a go though)

Love the Hair-tos! Thanks for the inspiration!

I’ve been meaning to watch this for weeks and finally just got to! My hair texture & thickness is just like yours…just waiting for it to get a bit longer. Thanks for giving me a solution to avoid “old school” hair curling. ha! I’m new to the whole “longhair” thing!
