balloons BALLOONS ...everywhere balloons

I just found this draft of a post I created from 12/5/2008 and I'm not quite sure why I never hit "publish" . . .but what I thought then, I think is even more apparent now which is ...the world is fascinated with balloons right now ...and not only balloons, pastel or faded looking balloons ...and while they are whimsical, dreamy, adorable, and rather refreshing, I'm not sure I'm completely on board with them having any relevance in anything at all ...though maybe in these unsettled times we are all wishing we were as free as a balloon, floating up into the sky without a care in the world.

When my brother was born in 1982 my mom decorated his nursery with a pastel plaid wallpaper in blues, yellows and greens and in a balloon theme {with teddy bears I think}. In fact, I remember a ceramic hand {or fist, rather} in powder blue and two ceramic balloons in a soft yellow and green that she hung on the wall and placed either ribbons or yarn from them and through the hand. She may have even painted them in my grandfather's shop. That I cannot remember, but I do remember loving my brother's little pastel balloon-filled room. And it did have a sense of freedom that I cannot explain.

you couldn't be more right to notice this recent fascination with balloons.
never have i seen such a fixation on them.
with that said - they take me to a simpler place, of innocence and childhood... i think in tough times we look longingly at ignorance in that sort of way.

I know I am obsessed!! :))
Especially if they are vintage quality and That Dior ad is the best.

When you all have a child, you should decorate his/her room in balloons just like your mom did for your Brother!

Balloons just make everyone happy. :)

BTW...if you're brave enough to go for bangs, I am.....whens your appointment?

I'll probably just stick with the same old too, but it's tempting!

When we were going through chemos and surgeries with our son, the only thing that would cheer him up was a yellow balloon. Thank god for balloons.

Balloons do have a sense of whimsical, childish freedom. They represent the innocence of youth, the mind with which we view the world & are not yet corrupted by society.

also - I have tagged you in my latest blog. It's not too difficult =)

I think they are symbolic of us being kids and remembering having balloons or having one and letting it go into the sky and wondering where it would go or how far.

And don't forget; everyone likes a good water balloon fight every now and then...am I right?

I wish I could recreate that Dior ad. I always wanted to float away with a bunch of balloons as a kid. Don't know why, I just thought it would be fun!
