Audrey Hepburn has been in many many brilliant movies. There is no question that she is fabulous and generations of girls and women long to have her grace, beauty, style, and wit. But the best Audrey Hepburn movie BY FAR is How to Steal a Million. You may THINK it's Breakfast at Tiffany's . . .but you would be wrong. :)
I fell in love with How to Steal a Million in my early twenties which I think jump-started my love affair with the 1960's in general. I caught half of it while at home sick one day on USA or some other random cable channel and was on a quest to view it in it's entirety immediately. However, it wasn't available on DVD or anything else for that matter, so I religiously checked the TV guide for a replay {pre-DVR days kind of sucked}.
Of course, I own it now, but occasionally it's on that old movie channel AMC and I'll watch it whenever I see it. It's so great. The details are just divine. Her outfits and hair and everything, of course, is perfect. Also, it's kind of funny! The chemistry between Peter O'Toole and Hepburn just makes me smile.
I like the movie for many reasons but what I find most interesting now is that it revolves around art ...as does my life. Well actually an art "hoax" . . .which is either ironic or an eerie premonition ...lol. Either way, it's not until you are older and can look back to see the culmination of what led you to where you are in your life that you realize where you can now go. It's kind of interesting. And totally weird at the same time.
Before I get any more "soul searchy" and "reminiscent" on you, let me just say that How to Steal a Million is a phenomenal film.
Do yourself a favor and watch it :)

so weird!!!—just this very day i was going to post about finding this movie under the most unusual circumstances!
i saw this movie several years ago. i am THEE BIGGEST fan of Audrey, and i quite like Peter O'Toole, too. anyway, ever since i saw it, i have been wanting to own it. it was one of those things that was just always at the back of my mind, but i never did anything about it.
so Wednesday night, my hubby and i went to the video rental store to rent some movies, which is our usual New Year's Eve tradition. when we got there, we found out they were going out of business, and they said we could not rent—we could only buy.
well, no one is going to buy a movie they have never seen, and we did not want to watch movies we had see already. so we almost left the store. but then i told the hubby i wanted to look around to see if there was anything i might want to own.
the first section i hit was the foreign films, as i like them very much. but then, next i went to the classics section. it was so picked over, and i was very disappointed. but just as i was about to walk away, i saw this movie on the shelf! i was so excited! it was a DVD, and i got it for $5!!!
i guess no one else knew what a great movie it is. i know she is more known for a lot of her other movies, but i think this is one of my faves, along with Charade and Love in the Afternoon.
so, that made my last day of 2008! what a great way to go out from a year!!! :)

I LOVE this movie with passion!!!! Brilliant film. I also like Funny Face but more for the opening scene with the nasal voiced model than anything else. Makes me laugh every time.

SUCH a great movie!! Although, when I was a little girl, I always said I wanted a wedding dress like the one she wore in Funny Face. Too bad I couldn't get it in maternity :(

I totally agree, this is the best movie. I find that I enjoy every other one of her films ten times more than Breakfast at Tiffanys. Odd, hmm?

I recently watched Breakfast at Tiffany's on LaserDisc and wasn't overly impressed with the film. While Hepburn adds a wonderful personality to Holly Golightly, her charactor is not terribly deep in the film. I have been meaning to get copy of this film for some time to see Peter O'Toole in a more light hearted role than Laurence of Arabia or Lord Jim, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
If could be this possible I think I better win this, I wont like to steal anything, and it is not a good idea to do this, sometimes it is better to win honestly this money.
