Thursday afternoon I stopped at one of my favorite local thrift shops which is a bit more expensive than, let's just say, Goodwill, but all proceeds go to cancer research, which is totally worth forking over the extra bills for old ass shit.
However, when I got there, it was closed. But after reading THIS POST @ K-line's place ...I have not been able to get that little cropped leather jacket out of my mind. So I thought I'd mosey on down to Goodwill to see if I could find something like it. I also have an amazing dress from Erin Leigh Heart that I'm looking for a little jacket to wear with as well. . .
While I didn't have any luck with either of the above mentioned jackets on my list of items my wardrobe told me to look for, I did find about $75 worth of other fabulous items that I cannot wait to wear!
If you're a long-time reader, you'd know that I love me some vintage. If something is fabulous ...even if not fully wearable yet . ..I will buy it. Point in case, the Ralph Lauren dress I wore to work on Friday was purchased ages ago ...and even made it to the pile of stuff "to sell" on ebay ...but I never did. Because when something is fabulous ...no telling, it will come back in style. And if you can score it for under $10 ...it's totally worth it.
Most of the stuff I snatched up went directly to the dry cleaners {a London Fog cropped members only style jacket, a little black bolero, a Sasson striped blazer} but I keep anything that I can wash myself {aka...cotton, polyester, etc.}.
The dress below is a cotton/poly blend and is made by All That Jazz ...and I knew when I saw it that it had to be mine. I didn't even try it on. I knew it was made for me.

However, I don't wear body hugging attire too often because of my J.Lo sized back end. Not that I don't love it {because I totally do} BUT ...it warrants me a little more attention than is necessary ...lol .. .and makes me a bit self conscious. If I were single, however, I'd probably flaunt it a bit more.
Now, I love this dress BUT ...the question is ...bra or no bra? I mean, nowhere in the history of fashion has it ever been acceptable to have your bra showing without looking tacky or Madonna-esque {which, don't get me wrong, I totally love but is inappropriate for many occasions} ...until Carrie Bradshaw came onto the picture and it seemed that no matter the dress style, she wore a regular bra {and I don't know if we should thank Pat Field for that or the fact that SJP won't be seen without a bra} ...but either way, it seems completely more acceptable now {which makes me happy because I, like SJP, will not go without a bra}.
. . .but then there's the back fat issue ...with bras and such . but eh, I don't mind it too much really.
* * * *
On a totally unrelated topic ...I'm thinking about doing another Hair To tutorial ...anything you are interested in seeing? {I'll do it tonight before going out and post it tomorrow}

I love your dress!
great dress-it fits you perfectly! i'd probably do no bra if i could swing it.
Great dress and fits you perfectly. I would try and wear it without the bra.
And yay on the hair how-to video. You answered my burning questions about curling so I will wait with anticipation for the next video :-)
Love that booty!
...Love Maegan Lesson #1: go to thrift stores. Got it!
oh my.... the dress is AMAZING!
Love the dress! Perfect fit.
As for bra or no bra ... I'm not a big fan of bra showing nor going bra-less either. Have you thought about one of those low-back bras that kinda wrap around the waist? I know VS makes several but other brands do too.
Killer dress. I'd skip the regular bra and maybe try those stick on bras. I think the visible bra in back is doing a disservice to the interesting cut of the dress.
P.S. If you see a tiny cropped black motorcycle jacket while you're out next time, my number is 323......heehee :)
I have to say, I'm digging the bra....but then again, I've seen the Sex and the City movie a dozen times and am a huge Carrie Bradshaw fan. I'll often sport a bra when I shouldn't, but I make sure that it LOOKS like I meant to wear it. Try it with a colored bra, if you have one. I think hot pink would be awesome.
The dress is smashing on you.
Lizzy, who still covets those Tom Fords :).
That is a great dress! Thrift stores around here never have anything that cute! Hmmm I also am fond of bras so I'd say to go with rather than without. :)
I love that dress! I would go without the bra. And yes to the hair tutorial! I actually tried it out yesterday using your video. I only did about 1/4 of my hair because I got bored. My hair is super thick.
That is one smoking hot dress! Great find
You've got a killer body & that dress looks great. Plz do a hair tutorial! You have the best hair
The bra does look hot, especially if you're going out with the buddy!
hot dress! I'd go with those nipple stickies instead of bra... The dress has such a nice backless feature, I think it's hot to show off a bare back once in a while :)
Whoa, rock that shit!
I vote for no bra... I'm a big fan of backless dresses - S-E-X-Y.
J
M- I love it! The bra issue...you ever tried duct tape? It works wonderfully.
LOVE THAT DRESS! and you are making me laugh, even on a saturday. :)
What a gorgeous dress on a gorgeous girl!!!!!
xoxo
OOOH LIZZY! I love the idea of a pink bra ..neon... or even green. ...liking that.
AUBREY! I actually have used duct tape and it TOTALLY WORKS! ...a word of advice though ....put lotion on a while before ....it pulls off smoothly at the end of the night.
Lol, I was a notorious duct-taper, too!! With that dress (which is hot, btw), I would find a bustier type bra, so that even though the bra is showing, the bottom half is not skin. I prefer no bra over the carrie-bradshaw-my-bra-shows-all-the-time look. To me it just looks like you forgot that the back shows your underclothes. And that dress WAS made for you.... show that butt off!!
That dress is insane and you look sick (and I mean that in the best possible sense). I love All That Jazz...their stuff is always completely fabulous. As for the bra, I say rock it! (And BTW, WHAT BACK FAT?!?!) You look amazing.
oooh, fantastic find! isn't it awesome when you find used things like this?! as for the bra issue- i would go w/out but that's b/c i don't have a lot of a chest...
Love it.
OK, not only is that dress awesomely stunning (esp on you) but I LOVE ZEBRA PRINT!
Also, you have an amazing figure! Flaunt it!
I love what you said about SJP because I think the same thing!
You are one hot mama!
VS has a convertible bra with some extension that you can use with backless tops/dresses. It crosses over the back down to your waist called Low-back multi-way bra with Gel-Curve. I purchased it last year for a LBD.
LOVE that dress! It is absolutely made for you!
Great dress, great ass! And I think you can pull of the dress with the bra (not everyone can) but you could also pull it off without the bra... My preference is no bra...
Really great photos M!
You wear that dress well gur-fren! Most cannot - including me. :) Hope all is well with you and yours. Just doing my blog roll and wanted to pop in and say hello. It's been a while. Enjoy your Sunday!

I once bought this knockout classic herringbone overcoat made in the UK for like 30 bucks. I forgot I lived in L.A. and people would keep on asking me If I was from the east coast when I went out in it.
That dress is rad! I wish my local thrift had such an item for me to snavel!
Hair tutorial? Yes yes. Just lately I've been seeing some of the retro girls around, and wondering how they do their hair. It got their hair parted and rolled up on the sides. No, that sounds hideous- but its cute I swear! : )
Great dress!
LOVE. THAT. DRESS.!!!
I wish I could go bra-less... too much boob everywhere.
I hate showing my bra.
you totally rock that dress ...
thanks dear for your comments
love your sexy dress
have a good weekend
I love the dress! It's Peggy Bundy hot...
without the bra, or get one of those backless bra type thingies
pretty dress!
bbethy
That dress is fantastic! I don't vote for everyone wearing a bra...but you totally pull it off. So rock it!
lovely glasses!
xx
Sex-ay!
XoXo
greetings - salute for visiting - high five.
Wow, i like your dress so much!
You are so pretty
Honestly, I like the bra. It does give it a totally SATC feel. And since you are stylish, you can totally pull it off.
hair tutorial... hmm, anything! You have such lovely style!
This is a most excellent blog. I love your energy and creativity! I also adore your oufit selections and you have such a killer bod. I need to get the gym, STAT!
Woooow What a "barefoot Tigress" !!!! Mmmmh about the bra's unveiling, it sounds as an "Alcôve aesthetic declined on day to day Reality" . . . BUT I think that a potential "without bra version" could be a better way to sublimate the inner Sensuality of the backless shape . . .
à Bientôt, Antoine
your dress and hair totally rock!!!
oh that dress is divine--your hair is divine and with bra or without you can rock it. (did i just say rock it? oh dear, well i'll chalk it up to sunday morning). but seriously it's insane and you look gorgeous.
and as for not having la on my list of cities to move to...i went once for about a week and it coincided with one of the single worst experiences of my life...so while i didn't hate it, i don't imagine i'll be going back soon!
The bra/no bra is always a huge question for me..."if you can swing it" ( by Amy) hit the nail on the head. I think I'd be swingin' a bit too much! BTW...that's one of my husband's fave songs! I still can't get the wavy hair with the curling iron thing going...My hair isn't as long and I don't have the patience. I try getting the same effect with rollers.
that dress looks AMAZING on you. it's perfect. i'd try it without a bra, if possible.
no bra - flaunt it sistah
I love that dress, and you have a fab booty. I say flaunt the bra, the dress and the curves!
often times I'll go back and read a post later in the day and it either makes me cringe or makes me laugh. This one does a little of both.
Yout hair looks fabolous and the dress, too!
i love that song! makes me smile. one friend of mine was way to hung up in that song a while ago...
i love shops that makes you feel good shopping there, that your money goes to something good!

You look stunning!
You look hot. And I totally agree about hoarding great vintage finds until they come back in style. Everything will, eventually.

you look so amazing and so pretty! Everything suits :)
love ya blog x
Michelle.
That looks incredible! Great find!
i found this bra thing at a department store - - it looks exactly like the front part of a bra, with sticky little cups, and it hooks together in the front, but no band. i love it. i hate those chicken breast things that a lot of people use, hahahaha. you know what i'm talking about?
i'd try to find something like that.
wow! love the back cleavage!
it`s my "deviation"!
also thank you for your lovely coomment!
Love, love, love the dress. Did I mention I love that dress?
Go with the bra!
Cool photo! Love the dress. I don't think you have a j lo booty??? Some booty is good though. You don't want a flat one.
I would say no to the bra. But that's just me, I don't like bra's showing unless it's a little lace peaking out from the front.
Would love to see another hair video.
One, you definitely don't have back fat. And two, I would go no bra to show off your fabulously toned back! Great dress!
Love the dress! It's perfection with the hair and sunglasses!
I would also love.love.love to know how you got those beautiful spiral curls in the photo where you're sitting and look like a ballerina -- that look is amazing!
I was totally going to bring up SJP and her bra attachment :) Regardless, bra or not, this dress is so hot!
you loook so good in that dress!! and yes please do a hair tutorial :)
ps. believe it or not, i'm really listening to Baby got back! haha!
great find! If I saw you sporting the bra...I would totally think Carrie. It does bring even more attention to your backside, so I would say to try to go without (unless you want the attention:)
what a score!
i agree that is you're going to do a bra make a statement with it!
ps - love the jlo backside, glad you do too.
I would have thought without, but after seeing it, I say go with the bra... tis the hottness.
You look maaaaaaaahvelous! And I love the exposed bra!
xoxox,
CC
I too love thrift stores, i am a thrift store junkie, you can find the most gorgeous stuff there at the cheapest prices!
You look absolutely gorgeous, i love love your taste in clothes, your wardrobe totally fascinates me. Keep the "Totally gratuitous outfit" posts coming, i love them!
P.S.
You have a gorgeous figure btw. :)
Damn. Why don't I ever find anything like that at my thrift stores!?!?!
nice dress..your butt is fine, i think perfect not too small nor to big...so flaunt it...now mine?? way too damn big lol...lets trade :)
wow! i love the dress! it was made for you it fits your perfectly! and it made me think of a very sophisticated sexy chic lady :) love it! defenetly a keeper.
Wow...that dress is hotter than hot. Love it..and it suits you very well. Hmmm..the only thing with bras is they can draw attention away from the dress...but in this case, I think you pull it off fine! But it would look gorgeous without!!! hmm...what about those little padlet thingies??
its looks great on ya!
Belissima!
Never never never never NO bra. BAD=no bra.
Try going with Victoria's Secret low-back convertable bra. It will cover your issue with the showing bra on this dress.
I want this dress in every single colour.
gorgeous dress! I say rock it no bra or buy the stick on bra cups at Fredricks of Hollywood, they work great and you won't be "smuggling raisins" if you get cold ;)
Definitely No bra! You still looked fabulous nonetheless. love that dress
I vote bra. I like the look of it. And even though you know what's under there, it's a little mysterious...
that dress looks so fab on you. I love it. the bra actually looks kind of cool. very 80s and very now...Carrie Bradshaw pulled it off in SATC and I think you can too. you live in LA after all. it looks awesome. if you feel like you need to lose the bras straps (altho the black lacy straps look hot) then I would get one of those wrap around your waist bra extender things. I have one from victoria's secret. I am one of those women (perhaps like SJP) who cannot be seen without a bra. that ship has sailed my friend...plus, I don't want my girls in my shoes when I'm 40 so I need to strap on a bra at all times except bed.
only you could pull off this 80's dress and looking ahmazing!
as for your booty, it's perfect and definitely NOT big! you'd die if you saw my whack proportions.
for my sake, let's hope booty comes back.
girl, if i saw you walking down the street, i'd holla at you too! i like the bra!
Daytime=bra... night time=no bra... all the time=jlo behind!
I am loving the booty in this, but lose the bra......you are much too stylish to look that tacky.
i am enamored. http://enamored-alifeofindulgence.blogspot.com/
Nice booty... fabulous, another gal with "baby's got back", me too, and I am so self conscious sometimes I tend to wear tunics ... I like the bra for certain occasions but would lose it for others and go with nibble pads (bra-less) (luck you can, I can not go bra-less, damn DDDDD's) lol
So, when do we get to see the "no bra" pictures? Eh?
There are special bras available to wear with dresses of this type. Please don't wear it with the bra showing. Major tacky
Remember that one episode of Seinfeld where Elaine gave some woman a bra and that woman ended up wearing it as a top?
just as long as you don't do that it's fine haha... or else you'll cause lawsuits:

I need to comment on the reason you prefer your trift store to goodwill. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for giving for the cause of cancer. But money you spend at goodwill also help a cause. I cause that is a lot less glamour. Goodwill offer transitional employment to people who face difficulties entring the workforce.People work there for about 30 weeks, they also learn skills. Then with the experience and the skills they get at goodwill, about 90% find a job or return to school. Most of the funding for these program comes from what is bought at the store. So bying at goodwill is also a gesture that helps the community.

I have a halter bra with only two small strokes of fabric on the back, so it doesn't distract any attention away from the actual dress.
I totally love SJP.....AND I say go BRA!!! it;s fashion that doesnt have to make sense....thats how i always see it! ;-)
i like it with the bra
how did JUST find your site! Love it and I have the same JLo thang going on in the back. haha
