~ Hair To's ~
Big Curls with Tiny Buns

You would think that ...uh, I dunno, I'd put on some make-up and maybe . ... uhhh, something cute ..at least a bra - before I did one of these ...lol.

. . . this morning . . . after sleeping on the little spiral buns

TINY HAIR BUNS = BIG CURLS

Remove pins and let spirals un-twirl . .. .make sure they are fully dry ...you can use a hair dryer a bit but it's better to do it before unravelling buns. ...I don't mind a little frizzzzzzz ...

Use your fingers to separate waves ...do not brush out.

big-curly-hair

I made the top section a little larger/thicker so the curl wasn't as tight which sort of lays over the rest. . . .The smaller sections and more twisted spiral buns you do all over your head, the curlier it turns out.

Use a small barrel curling iron {in this fashion} on stray pieces. But really, the point of it is NOT to be perfect. You want it big and messy and crazy!

Damn girl, you sure have a shit-ton of hair. I think my whole head has about as much hair as one of your little buns...

I think I may have to try this out on my short hair.

I've tried this on my longer hair and it just didn't work at all. :[

Fabulous. I used to do something similar to this when I was younger and completely forgot about it. Way to be.

I love that you're not wearing any make-up. The thing is, if I did this with *my* hair I would look like a total Orphan Annie freakshow because my length is too short. LOVE yours though.

Also, how 'bout those Lakera?! 25 point massacre, whhhhhhatt!

I also have to tell you that I LOVE your style archive with the Polaroids of each outfit. So adorable. I was thinking of making a photo book of a year of my lookbooks. I may have to borrow (or rather steal) your idea as the polaroid outfits as my layout for the title page.

haha, totally vain right? but i figure once I'm old it will be nice to see what I used to wear! :)

I am SO EXCITED to try this...I love me some mini buns...your curls are heavenly.

So, I saw this today on another blog & because of its ridiculously prohibitive price tag ($265) I wanted to see if you liked it & were perhaps up for a DIY challenge:

I'm pretty sure my hair equals MAYBE one quarter of yours, ha! It's fine, so say the least. Gorgeous - you did a great job!

Love it! I forgot how easy that is to do.
..and you are too cute singing along to lady gaga :)

scarlethue said...

I love it! I may have to try it this weekend. I had been spiral-curling it with a curling iron but it was destroying my hair. This seems much less damaging, especially if you don't do it too tightly.

love it! you look amazing with that hair and I love your method!

Love your hair! Maybe even my hair can take to these curls? It is so straight it refuses all attempts to shape it into any unnatural shapes or forms.... annoying.

Thank you thank you thank you... and of course it doesn't seem so hard now that you broke it down for us... silly me, I can do my hair in 40's pinup rolls... why was I so scared of these little twists? lol :) Curly hair will be mine!!

I love this...I have done it four or five times now. Works like charm even on my stick straight hair! It's wonderful for lounging by the pool, and then taking it down for a night out.

I love how this turns out! I have wavy hair but this is so cute!!

Dubai Stylista said...

Awesome!! You have FABULOUS hair :) Great tutorial. Must try this out. I've tried sleeping with my hair in braids... but its not a pretty picture the next morning, na-ahh.

It's called a bantu know out, and it came out beautifully!

Anonymous said...

does the hair have to be wet to do this?

Prisca Lynch said...

This is so cute. It looks totally Taylor Swift in the final outcome. My hair is a bit too shot but I'll totally try it :D

Anonymous said...

The hair is cute, those are also called bantu knots.

Ife' said...

okay, definitely going to try this. I'm black, and a lot of black girls do flat twists and braids to get waves, but my hair is to fine and the waves always fall flat. This technique might be a little more successful for me! I'll let you know!.

Anonymous said...

I did it and it worked great!! thanks :)

schelley said...

thanks for the tutorial. m gona try it this weekend. have always been wondering how to get natural curls. this sure is helpful!

Anonymous said...

Love, love, love, love, LOVE your hair! You are sooo pretty. I have always wanted curly hair not my annoying half-wavy, half-staight hair, but I never wanted the heat. You make this so easy! I'm so trying it tonight! :D

P.S. Once you take down your hair you remind me of Taylor Swift so much. You're so pretty! Rock on the big, messy waves!

nice job, pretty hair, pretty girl, but be real, you have make up on.

I've always done this and never really perfected it. Thanks for posting this I'm loving it! Wish my hair was as long as yours though!

I just wanted to say, that I LOVE YOU! I have never, EVER been able to have curly hair. Even when I curl it with a curling iron and use a whole can of hair spray it would fall out within 4 hours. I saw your post on Pinterest a few weeks back and saved it, and this morning I was feeling a little spontanious so I hopped out of the shower and twisted up my hair. I let it dry (used a hair dryer as well) and when I took it out I started wondering if it was really going to stay. It has been 12 hours and I STILL have my curly hair. I am so thankful that I stumbled acrossed your blog. I am forever a follower!! :)

Thank you!

Next time my whims demand curls, I'm going to try this. I've got a TON of stick-straight hair and I've never been happy with any of the other tricks I've tried (pin curls were a huge mess, emphasis on huge).

PS - I've watched a LOT of hair tutorials, and I usually end up muting them because the girls sound either inane or like huge bitches... but I love yours! You are totally the kind of girl I could get ready for a party with. ^_^

The only way to get "naturally curly hair" is to be born with it. I think you meant "How to get curly hair naturally."
