I'm lucky enough to have inherited much of my grandma's jewelry but I've also been collecting key pieces since I was about 19. One of the first places I check in a thrift shop or flea market are the jewelry counters. Something about old costume jewelry is just better made than newer costume jewelry and still has some weight and extravagance to it. Also, it's usually under 10$ ...or even $5. And you can't beat that!

It's easy to mix it up ...just pile on similar color shades and remove what doesn't work. Make chains longer by attaching them onto other chains or add ribbons {as seen above}. I also use pins/brooches on occasion just to make it a bit more fun. Get creative with what you already have and turn your old pieces into new works of art you can wear! ...however, keeping the outfit simple is key when accessorizing to the max ...you only need one focal point and a statement necklace is just that.

I love all these looks! Unfortunately I'm allergic to several kinds of metal so my collection is real and very small.

I truly shouldn't admit how much some of your posts make me want to be a girl. Or be you. Or just wear necklaces.

Love this post! Wondering- how/where do you store all your jewelry? I have the hardest time keeping mine organized that I just can't seem to find the right pieces & then get frustrated and end up getting rid of it when I declutter.

Of course, you do this look terrifically. My question is: doesn't your neck get sore? I can barely wear a silver chain without developing a headache...

I absolutely love layering necklaces and having it be the statement piece of the outfit. That is my favorite look, except in the blazing hot of summer.

your jewelry is so strong! yes strong! each piece is so unique. They come together and create such great statement pieces, but they also stand fabulous alone. I love the mix of old and new. I love mixing silver/white,black/gold, and I think you did a great job with the silver/gold mix. That must be so beautiful for you to have pieces from your grandmother.

When I'm hiding from the office, I love to do this. But I completely agree - no mixing gold and silver. I'm so weird about that.

LENORENEVERMORE said...

Definitely agree, old costume jewelry is better made...they don't really make them like they used to...& when they do, $$$ che-cling!!!

Fabulous! I love layering a necklace or two but you take it to the max! I love it, especially the idea of adding broaches and pins. I definitely have a stock pile of old costume jewelry I can play with!
