Chain Tassel Lariat Necklace ~ DIY ~

As I was browsing through the Vogue Accessory Italy Spring/Summer 2009 magazine last night {which I was lucky enough to receive from an ex co-worker just yesterday ...thank you By Twil!} I stumbled upon this fabulous tassel necklace by Blugirl and fell in love. And then I remembered that just last week I specifically went to JoAnne's to pick up some chains to stitch onto my bikini ...but didn't use them because the ruffle came to me after and clearly, I thought it was better. And then right after that I remembered that the trip to JoAnne's prior to that I snatched up a few upholstery tassels because I was thinking about making earrings out of them ...and clearly, never did!

Voila! I have my new favorite necklace. Here's what you'll need...

diy-tassel-chain-necklace-inspiration

If you have a long chain ...or preferably, two long chains that you can hook to each other, then all you need to buy are the tassels {$3-4.99 each}...{or you can make your own out of leather!}
... but the craft chains are only {$3-4.99} each

...they're the FRYE Women's Emily Slingback Platform
& finally went on sale at Victoria's Secret {now sold out} but I'm not sure I like the way they make my legs look.

...but clearly I'm in love with my new Helmut Lang Silk Romper!

...I knotted the black one twice to shorten the length between chain & tassel

...and this one almost looks like nipple tassels ...lol!

* Update * I sent the shoes back

LOVE IT. I have some metal tassles (I KNOW) that I harvested off some old clip on earrings - totally doing this with them. Thanks for another amazing DIY!

Yes, great and EASY DIY. I will be making these this weekend, for sure. I actually love the shoes. The chunk factor will give a nice edge to girly dresses and skirts. They're also awesome for jeans. Keep 'em!

I love it! I giggled when I read the "nipple tassles" that will be fun to check your google analytics to see traffic generated from that little ditty! Ha!

I am always impressed with your craftiness--this is so cute! It definitely does not look like the sum of a few inexpensive materials. Can't wait to see your next DIY!

lol

LOVE it.....it looks awesome...both of them. you are magical!

I'm not sure about those shoes...I didn't care for them from the front, but I like the side view so maybe!

...love Maegan said...

yeah ...me too ..I love the side view but something is just weird in the front ...like they're not high enough on the ankle or not low enough ...I dunno. I think they may cut my legs off and/or not flatter.

love the gold one!

not sure about the shoes. dammit!

Such a great idea and finally a DIY that is easy enough for me, I'm not so good with a needle and thread. The shoes are ok, of course you make everything look great so hard to tell.

you should love your jumper, it's great (i think i've already commented on it). the necklace reminds me of a vintage necklace i just ran across that i seriously debated getting. maybe i should just make my own!

TheBeautyFile said...

haha it kind of does look like nipple tassels!! definitely love the DIY, the jumper & i'm thinking you should keep the shoes if and only if they don't make your feet hot. they look like they might and that could be a....DEALBREAKER!!!

You're so crafty!

I'm not a fan of the shoes. They remind me of hooves for some reason, especially when seen from the front.

I really like the shoes. But if you wanna sell 'em, go for it.
I love those chains, I wish there were places where I lived to buy some plain chains.

Another awesome DIY!!! You are unstoppable- and very inspiring. I need to get craftier.

I say keep the shoes- I think they look fab on you- but I'm very partial to all things Frye, and platforms.

Whew! Can't keep up with you gurl...lol On my to do list: Create my own Loub sandals courtesy of ....love Meagan, then create tassle thingy...courtesy of ....love Meagan again...lol

About those shoes...I love how they look from the side. I know for some, the shoe may appear too heavy -- but I think it works and gives off an edgy look with the romper. I say give them one more try and then see how you feel about them:)

love the necklace, the shoes?? neah, they dont suit you, they are too chunky.... if my opinion would make any difference... :-) you need stiletto heeled sandals with thin straps.... that would suit you much better....
