I needed a bit more than I anticipated. At least 40 squares per sleeve.

* NOTE: The edges of the chiffon I used for the sleeves is frayed more than the bag/shoes because I "tore" the fabric to give it that look. For the bag and shoes, I cut the petals out separately. See below. * Also NOTE: this is quite a long and tedious project.

You are inspiring! One of these days I'll have to actually try one of your DIYs...instead of just marvelling at them!

Thank you so much for your warm comments, I really appreciate them. Recent miracle...a friend was told she would NEVER conceive...went through the process of adoption - waited 2 years and was expecting a child to be placed with them soon. I just saw her mother in law, they just cancelled the adoption process...she's 3 month's preggers :) She hasn't told many cause she's STILL in shock.

Was this hand stitched or machine sewed? If it was done by hand.. that must of been a very long time. But I wonder how it would be possible with a machine...

Advice to anyone considering 'ruffling' an item of their clothing- use a synthetic fabric that WON'T crinkle when washed- even silk chiffon can crinkle! I had some very light black cotton crepe (looks like silk chiffon but made from cotton) which I used to make ruffles a la Maegan on a boring black top- and thanks to Maegan I had a serious piece of couture that cost me nothing and looked AMAZING! But then I chucked it in the washing machine (I do this with everything- a prerequisite of all my clothes is they have to be SUPER EASY to look after) and I discovered that all the cute petal/ruffles had crinkled and shrunk up after washing!! So you can blast your ruffles with a hair dryer and try to iron them out with a hair straightener or iron like I did, which sort of works but not 100% effective, or you can use a synthetic chiffon in the first place and it will never crinkle or shrink.

Thanks for being awesome Maegen your gratuitous outfit posts are not in the least gratuitous I love them an you!!

So fabulous! She has another DIY that is absolutely to die for! I'm going to make this today! I have the perfect shirt, and think I'll try petals made of some leftover scraps from the book cover project!I just found this DIY fashion blog, ...love Maegan and she does a fantastic job at translating looks on the runway in true DIY budget fashion. I love the look of her Petal Ruffle Sleeve Top which is easily done by sewing small strips of chiffon to a black t-shirt.

it's obvious that this is not a "diy"... the quality of the chiffron is different between the first step and the final!

So,if you don't have the ability to "cheat us" right, don't do it at all

ha!
