I am definitely not the first or the second or probably even the 5th person to do DIY shoulder pads ...but it doesn't mean I didn't want to DIY my own version. And while they are a bit daring, I am kind of in love with them. I haven't found a great and removable way to attach them aside from just pinning them on but if I were to wear them out, I would most likely hand stitch them to whatever I wanted to wear them with ..but loose enough to remove them at the end of the night without ruining the garment.

* You can purchase shoulder pads at your local fabric store ...or, rip them out of an old jacket like I did.

* I started {as I always do} with the idea of using many different materials/notions {fringe, beads, rope, studs, pearls, chains, leather pieces} but never really have an exact plan. In this case, I made the first one to my liking then duplicated it. I have so many ideas for these I may just have to make more. Have fun!

At first I was all "what would I wear shoulder pads with?!" Then I saw you with the tank and could totally see myself wearing that with a pair of jeans and black heels for a night out with the hubby. I love how you take crazy fashion and make it wearable for normal people. Love it! You're totally rocking the jacket too :)

OK, my admiration for you is getting out of hand. I think you should know that I talk about you to my BF so much he's worried.

This is another brilliant DIY, I wonder if I can pull the look off? I have no boobs and a huge but and I'm wondering if I'll look like a curvy linebacker, whuich is not what I'm going for.

I am usually not a shoulder pad person, but these are fabulous. They're a hint of Lady Gaga's style without being unwearable by mere mortals.

carlyjcais said...

Fabulous!
If it was me, I would sew a little strip of fabric underneath the pad with velcro on one end, so you could thread the strap of your tanktop thru for the tanktop ensemble.
For using with jackets/tees...I think the ol' safety-pin trick will suffice!

I think I love your version the best out of all that I've seen across the blogosphere!

hi maegan!

i got around to sewing my own thigh high spats too (thanks to you) and i will most definitely credit you for them.

please do keep itup, you are fantastic!

Love them, and love how daring you are with your clothes! Although I think it helps that working in an art gallery allows you a little more freedom in your attire.

Also, call me a stickler, but may I point out that technically they are epaulettes not shoulder pads? So cute though!
