Scent of a Woman : My Favorite Perfumes

favorite-perfumes-vanilla-scents

I have a very sensitive nose for colognes and perfumes. I'm sure my husband would love to share the fact that I complain about how much he uses on a daily basis. I'm quite dramatic about it so I've found that I can live with yummy food scents all day long and not get a headache or nauseous after inhaling it. Vanilla and coconut scents are my favorite. I've tried so many through the years and many of my favorites have been discontinued. L'Occitane had the BEST vanilla scent then out of nowhere, changed it. And while the new version is acceptable, the original was to die for.

Here are my faves. . .

vanilla-perfumes-pink-sugar-sud-pacifique

* Sud Pacifique ~ Vanille Extreme $53 but really all of their scents are glorious ~ only $33 at Amazon
* Aquolina: Pink Sugar $12-55 ~ but you can find it for less at Amazon

I wear these daily ...a few spritzes of each. The great thing about these yummy sugary scents is that you can mix them and make new flavors unlike most regular fragrances.

* Lavanila Laboratories Pure Vanilla $56 ~ they have the most amazing packaging! Pure Vanilla Roller Ball Fragrance $18 at amazon
* L'Occitane Eau des Vanilliers $46 {actually can't find this fragrance any longer}
* Bobbi Brown Beach Perfume $55 ~ I love mixing this with coconut oil in the summer!

*Coconut Perfume Oil- Spiritual Sky $5.99 Thanks Alison!
* Roller ball coconut oil. This was my first ever coconut oil experience and I loved it so much I savored it! I found it on a trip to Ojai when I was 16 with Kell and used it forever. I'm pretty sure the mixture that's in it now is of coconut & vanilla food extracts mixed with water. see below. And really, it smells GLORIOUS.
* L'Occitane Vanille perfume oil $12 ~ I don't think they make this any longer? maybe instore?

* See back top photo: Demeter Fragrance Library - Sweets, Desserts & Pastries Cologne Collection I'm also in love with Demeter Fragrances...they have so many ...from Grass to Sex on the Beach ...the one I have now is Orange Cream Pop ...YUMMMMM. {and they're very wallet-friendly}

Non-vanilla faves . . .

hanae-mori-lacoste-burberry-perfumes

* Lacoste Inspiration Eau de Parfum $32 ~ can only find this on amazon
* Hanae Mori Eau de Toilette $65-$90 ~ only $32 at Amazon ~ I love Hanae Mori For Men too. I die when my husband wears it!
* Burberry Brit Eau de Toilette $48 ~ a larger bottle and for less at amazon

Vanilla Extract and Imitation Coconut Extract

Before anyone was making a really great vanilla scent, I used to buy Vanilla and Coconut food extracts from the market for around $3-4 each and mix them myself, adding a bit of water into a a small glass spray bottle {or roller ball bottle} and spritzing it on. I did however, get teased for this when caught using it ...but Oh how I smelled like cookies ...and actually got a lot of compliments! Little did they know ;)

I've been wearing Hanae Mori for years, total favorite! Have never smelled the one for men, but will definitely give it a try...So great to see all your faves!

I LOVE pink sugar.

I too was teased by my girlfriends for using some coconut scented potpourri oil. That is until they also started using it. I love the idea of making your own. I've gotten some perfume oils off of ebay before to mess with. Oh the yummy scents they have. I'm stuck on strawberry banana right now :)

I didn't know that you could get scents for cheaper on Amazon - love it!

Some of my favorites that you listed are Burberry Brit, L'Occitane (they used to make this amazing perfume that smelled like Linden trees and now it's gone) and Demeter. All of those are great.

Ha! I like your DIY scent, how great!

I also use Hanae Mori. I love it. Vanilla has always been my favorite scent (and flavor). My first ever perfume was a vanilla scent from the Body Shop. It was in my Easter basket :)

I wore that old Vanilla scent from L'Occitane for years - I was SO upset when they discontinued it and put this new, not-as-good one in its place. I never found a good substitute!

mmm, I too love me some Vanilla scents! My favorite is The Body Shop Vanilla Spice. They only have it at Christmas time though... So each year my sweet guy buys me their big set of it :)

Lets try this again!
I stumbled across your blog this weekend and i love it!!

I used to wear Tommy Hilfiger Cream Pie. The most delicious, sugary, delightful scent ever... and then they went and discontinued it! I was in a deep depression for days!! I will have to try some of these.

Thanks for sharing all of your secrets!

PINK SUGAR for me!!! I use it EVERYDAY and can't get enough of the cotton candy like smell :)

LifestyleBohemia said...

Pink Sugar is my absolute favorite! I get so many compliments. And strange thing is that most people say they haven';t heard of it.

drollgirl said...

you always smell DELICIOUS! hahahahah

and i just about died when L'Occitane stopped carrying a jasmine mandarin perfume that sent me over the moon. this was about 10 years ago, and still haven't found a suitable replacement.

Amanda Nicole said...

I adore L'Occitane scents! My perfume collection is mostly light, sugary scents as well :)

Yaya said...

Yeah, I don't wear perfume. I get regular migraines so I try to stay away from the smelly stuff. The closest I get to perfume is scented deodorant. ;)

Sorry I haven't been by as much...chaos of summer ending and work up'd my hours from 40 to 50. It's a big adjustment for me. Hope you are doing well and finding peace.

I am right there with you on the vanilla/coconut scents! They are just the best, hands down.

Sud Pacifique - Vanilla Apricot & is my favorite favorite favorite!

I have the Lacoste Inspiration perfume--I bought it at the Navy Exchange in Virginia Beach for way cheap and tax-free.

Oh wow - lots of colognes and perfumes make me ill as well! The ones I have found I can wear are Hanae Mori and Nanette Lepore. I can do Vera Wang i its only a short time. For my hubby, he wears Vera Wang and Burberry without making me sick. Armani and CK make me want to vomit and bash my head in.

I am more than a little obsessed with Pink Sugar! Thank you for helping me justify my purchases:) I also love the DIY. Simply put: you kick ass.

I have the curse of an overly sensitive nose too! Back in the clubbing days my friends would have to grab my hand and race me through an area where somebody "dropped a bomb" or I would start dry heaving. Even lost a few times in the middle of the club...just from a fart! Every night out with me was a new adventure!LOL!

I can only handle a few scents, my fav is Bath & Body Works Sensual Amber (ALWAYS get compliments). Perfume I love is Burberry Brit (very small amounts).

Thanks for all your fashion posts & DIY's. It makes days like today easier (my baby started H.S.). I cried last night, couldn't believe it.

I'm so jealous! My boyfriend really dislikes vanilla, so sadly I cannot wear it. I do love it & sniff people whenever I can if they are wearing it, ha! I LOVE Demeter's scents & Burberry's fragrances tend to be me faves!

I think we are scent-twins. I have the same shit in my drawers - but add in Theirry Mugler's Angel (mmm, heady) and Lolita Limpicka. I've also been digging Marc Jacobs Blush. It's floral, but still thick enough not to be too - girlie.

That roller ball coconut bottle with the branding has worn off is Auric Blends - they make my fav Egyptian Musk! I'm SURE you can order it online as well!

I wish I had a scent. I feel like I've been looking for one forever! There's one problem though - my boyfriend doesn't like perfume. What to do?

I am addicted to perfume. Its a little unhealthy.

You have to try Laura Mercier's chocolate truffle souffle body creme. It has a rich chocolate and coconut scent, like German Chocolate Cake, which is my favorite dessert, I love it.

I'm feeling inspired to find myself a coconut roller ball. LOVE the smell of coconut. I've been obsessed with Lollia Eau De Parfum lately -- all the varieties smell amazing, but Wish is my fave. It has sugarcane, vanilla bean and jasmine overtones.

BTW, thanks for stopping by my blog. I am really enjoying yours. Hope you stop back by. :-)

I am a HUGE fan of smelling like coconut! I buy sunscreen based on whether it smells coconut-y or not, lol! I LOVE smelling what I call "like the beach". I'm a misplaced sun-and-sand girl, I swear...

I love perfume! I'm the kind of person who will make you cough when I walk past because of how much I apply ;-)

That's so funny! I used to wear vanilla extract straight from the bottle until I noticed I kept getting a red mark where I was putting it on. Did you know they make vanilla essence (not extract) from beechwood? Seriously! Just a little trivia for ya!

OMG OMG OMG I thought I was the only person who wore Hanae Mori! I LOVE IT!! I was up to my usual Maegan stalking today and happened to click on on old perfume post. ;p

Anyway, you can get it at Sephora, not just Amazon if you ever need to.

I love the sweet scents too and I love the original La Vanilla scent. But I've always wondered about Aquolina and never tried it at my many trips to Sephora, really just because I always forget. but this past weekend I saw it right in front of me in an attended restroom at a strip club and of course I recognized the bottle from the stripes. I absolutely love it! Even the next day after my clothes absorbed the smell of women on poles, cigarettes and beer I could still smell it where I spritzed it on. Running out and buying this right away!
