Michael Kors Sleeveless Wool Coat
Nearly every time I have stepped foot in a thrift store -throughout my life- I have spotted a vintage camel hair coat yet I have now been to every thrift shop {within reason} and I cannot seem to find one -anywhere. It is killing me. {okay, I actually found a couple vintage cashmere ones for $95 but I was not about to spend that on a coat I was going to hack up}
What's funny -er, ironic, is last time {around July} I was in my favorite Goodwill, I spotted two of them, one that may have been perfect, but I passed it up thinking I had my Burberry trench and didn't need it. And here I am now endlessly searching for one. I even found one on ebay, seemingly perfect, nicely priced, and at the last minute some b*tch outbid me. kill.
So, I'm making due. I've found some other great coats that this DIY was just perfect for and really, I'll probably get more wear out of these colors than I would have the camel one ...although if I find one now, I'm totally snatching it up. I'm going to do the black wool blazer as well. I can't wait to wear it with a billowy sleeved blouse that usually is too cold to wear in the winter ...but now = a fabulous solution.
I am in love with this ...and have been wanting to do it for a while now, I just hadn't found the perfect coat to alter. ..blah blah.

I made a flower pin out of the extra sleeve.

Have fun!

I love this. The flower you made reminds me of Chanel. The belt is so cute on it too. You always think outside the box and I love it!

Amazing, yet again. You are so talented and creative.
you're the only woman alive whose DIY's i actually want to try. that coat has been KILLING me since i saw that little piece on it... in Vogue? Elle? either way. LOVE THIS! on the hunt for a camel coat now!! xo
totally impressed. your DIYs are always so inspiring, you really go for it.
wish you posted a pic of you wearing it but I get the idea. I think I'll just admire, and leave the attempts to the more artistically inclined.
Honestly, I like your version better than the pictures of the originals. It looks great, but like GlamorousEccentric said, I'd love to see it in action. :-)
Holy crap woman! outta my league but makes me love you even more.
So guess what...and this is so creepy you will die...I was thinking of being you for halloween??!!! HAHAHAHAHA :)
But seriously...
You did such a great job! I really wasn't expecting it to turn out so well!
looks fab! you are freaking awesome at DIYs! but you already know this! hehehe
oh GEEZ.... I WAS JUST LOOKING at a coat almost identical to this one yesterday, and I was thinking 'if only the sleeves weren't so big'..umm and NOW LOOK AT THIS!! PERFECT! totally perfect. PERFECT. I'm loving this look majorly, so classy and elegant, it could go with practically ANYTHING.
I just might go back to the store..it was pretty well priced too!! geeerrr...;)

i love it!!!
The end result is so spectacular! I'm not at all into sewing, but like you said, it might be a great idea to find a great seamstress, give her some Goodwill finds, and reap the
rewards!

cassandra @ coco+kelley : I SO WISH I had found a camel one in time to do this DIY ...I just wanted to do it so badly, I gave up on the camel ...but I'm still on the hunt. I'll have 10 sleeveless coats ...lol!!!!
omg i'm gutted... i had a hugo boss cashmere jacket that i picked up for 1 euro, but had to leave it in germany because 'i thought i'd never need it'
I love this...love the black and tan tweed too!!! Thanks for commenting on my blog...I'm so excited to see what else you have to post!!!
I bought a Mackage one almost 2 years ago in NYC and I haven't worn it yet...now here you are making your own, gosh! I never would've thought to make one myself. I love it and I know how to handstitch so this I can definitely do!
Oh...is there a sewing machine you would recommend for a beginner to learn on? A good but fairly inexpensive one that'll last if I turn out to be good at it and if not that I won't feel terrible for wasting hundreds on?
Your the queen of DIY!!!!!!
xoxoxo
DID YOU MAKE ONE FOR ME?!?!?
this is so fucking rad. and it is like fucking antarctica in this office today and i NEED this!!!
you are amazing. i wish i had your creative eye. there's just no way i would have ever thought to do that and if i had it would have turned out looking hideous!
but i might try the flower!!
god bless the internet! i found your blog once before and stumbled onto it again today and i've spent the last 30 mins surfing around it. i know nothing about fashion/design and am definitely NOT a fashion plate myself but i can't tear myself away!
clearly you love this stuff! diy ideas, great pictures, well-written comments and obviously more than just a couple minutes spent putting together a post (and an outfit). just like i appreciate a great painting because i have no artistic ability, i appreciate your good taste!
maybe the coolest thing, though, is that you actually searched out a coat from goodwill, actually cut the sleeves off and actually made a cool jacket. who knew?
anyway, take my random visit and ramblings as a compliment!
Hi, thanks so much for leaving me a comment today so I could find you. What a great blog you have here! I saw that MK coat spread and totally fell in love with it. I look forward to following you!
OMg that's amazing and SO cute. I can't wait to see your outfit when you wear it. I wish I was that talented w/ sewing ...sadly I am not!
ah you make it look so easy! i love this sleeveless coat tho, maybe my favorite so far! and the flowers adorable as can be too :)
hey girl
you are so talented. keep up the good work

You clever thing! Wrong time of year 'round my way for coats, dang! Wait- did you just make me regret the oncoming summer with your diy skillz? ;o)
This looks totally fierce and easy to do! I can not wait to see how you wear this!!!
i love that your DIY's don't look like DIY's. they just look amazing!
can't wait to see you wearing this.
you are a genius! I would be petrified to cut that coat.
I love your DIYs, they always impress me! and even though you usually make them look pretty easy to do, I am not sure I could pull off the transformations you do! I am not so crafty :) I would be afraid to make a wrong cut! haha. but that little flower pin looks adorable and easy enough even for me.
Wow, so cool!!! is amazing, i love it
xoxo
I HATE HATE HATE when people outbid me at the last second on Ebay!!!!!!! It makes me all murdery!
I'm gonna have to try this one!
This may be my favorite DIY yet... and this gives me a reason to buy coats with too short arms (this happens a lot for coats that fit me in the body).
oh my gosh! at first, i was skeptical, but your coat turned out marvelous! great job and once again, thanks for sharing!
wow megs how this looks amazing!
I've been out of the blog sphere for a while.
I love what your blog has become, congrats on your blogging success!!
franco out yo!
You should totally go on Project Runway!
whoaaa seriously you are gifted with creative mind!!! that blazer is now way way chic-er :D--if that's the right word--- you know what the reason i followed your blog is to keep my self updated with this kind of post when you DIY-ing things from old stuffs, it is just cool ;P hey, why don't you make videos out of these DIY tips, i'm sure you'll get more followers on you tube, just a thought anw ;)
dude, amazing DIY
The end product is amazing!
Hi Maegan!
I absolutely adore your blog, how down to earth and ceative you are :) plus I really love your DIYs, they always look so well finished!
I'm a new mom, and have gotten back to my pre-baby weight, but my body shape has changed. I'm also (just like almost everyone I know) on a tight budget. I was so tired of wearing boring t-shirts and jeans and just flat ironing my hair twice a week. Your blog has inspired me to cut up and transform some clothes and shoes that were no longer flattering on me and rewear them in completely different, and more stylish, daring ways. I transformed some sweaters that were too tight into lovely mini skirts that are so comfy and look great. I also started curling my hair again, which always makes me feel more cheerful.
In fewer words: you've inspired me to renew myself, and I'm really greatful for that ;)
Thanks again and take care, please keep doing what you're doing 'cause it's such a pleasure to read!
love your creativity!
WOW amazing blog! Thanks for sharing!
Great idea again, creativity is in your mind darling, keep going!
Kisses
I love your DIYs ;)
Saludos!
This is probably my favourite diy you've done!!! It's GENIUS!!!!
Love it & can't wait to see you rocking this look one day soon :)
xx
Maegan, what would you recommend I wear to a long airplane ride from SC to Las Vegas? I guess I want to be comfortable, but can't stand looking sloppy. I have a 3 hour layover at LAX so it will be a long day.
Also, what should I pack to wear when we are out in Vegas? Little black dress and strappy shoes is what I'm thinking...
Thanks girl!!!
I would never have thought of making a flower with the extra material. Genius.
Great DIY - yet again!
I am sooo gonna try that! Love it. So cute.
Lady, you are ridiculously creative! I love what you did with that jacket!!! Great outfit, and great hair, too :)
amazinggggg DIY idea. you rocked it! and those heels are to DIE for
xx
Oh my hell this is so amazing! LOVE!
I always knew that u'r very talented person, thanks for DIY ideas, I usually afraid to do such things myself) The jacket is amazing!!!
wow this looks great :)
i was wondering if you could do a diy on how to re-size a blazer like the black one on the pictures. I recently got a couple at a thrift store but some of them fit a bit too big so i wanna fix them. Please and Thank You :)
Fabulous!!
God Bess You and Yours!!!
Happy New Year TOo!!
this is uber-cool and the project I liked best so far!
sidenote: I am a regular reader, but I am seemingly to dumb do navigate your site (I'd like to come back always on your latest post?), so when http://asewnwardrobe.blogspot.com/ linked back to you, I was actually quite surprised to find this post that has escaped me so far :-)
This was a great DIY I love the way yours turned out.
