...um, is it just me or do I look like I have a "bulge" in my pants?!?!?!? lololol!

What I'm Wearing
* Bohemian blouse ...alloy.com ...I don't see it on the site though. It's actually got long sleeves with elastic at the bottom so I folded them up and pouffed the top out a little. Also, I'm pretty sure my days of wearing clothes from the "juniors" section is over. I must admit that I love this top ..{also, it was $14.99} but I had to let out the stitches in the front down to the ruffle detail. 1. it was pulling across my chest and did not look good and 2. it shouldn't have been sewn up as high as it was. It looked lame. Like a v-neck that's too short. uh uh.

* Old black tank top under
* Seven for all Mankind jeans ...these jeans are ancient but I still love the cut and fit ...seen here with shoes
* Pour la Victoir nude platform pumps
* Vintage gold chain/shell necklace ...seen here
* Gold danglies from the Farmer's Market
* Marc by Marc Jacobs bag
* Tom Ford "Yvette" gold sunnies

* Hair ...if you follow me on twitter you'd know that yesterday I spent some time at my mom's pool with Morgan {my brother's baby mama} and lucky for me {and my hair} there is a lemon tree in my mom's back yard. I slathered it all over my roots {for the 3rd time now} and laid out in the sun and it really REALLY makes a difference I think {I wasn't in the pool too long but I think the chlorine lightens it a bit too -although it used to turn it majorly green when I was a kid}. It just lightens/highlights it enough to blend with the chemical highlights and possibly give me another month or so before I have to go to the salon and get it done. I'm so lazy when it comes to maintenance. {also note that I've been using lemon to lighten my hair in the summers since forever ...which I'm sure my mom taught me :)}

I have to say {which means I probably shouldn't}, I wasn't feelin' it this morning. I'm really tired today and just thinking about the effort that goes into outfit posting was making me want to just say forget it all together. I think about once a week a get a bad case of the "shames" or a "shame attack" and wonder what the hell I am doing and feel the urge to pull the plug on the whole thing ...this blog I mean. But some strange and perhaps rational {if that makes sense} voice tells me to keep doing it. But I'm tired today. I wish there was a steady balance of confidence in life instead of a crazy roller coaster ride but I guess that would get boring too ...i think my outfits reflect my mood.

*Since today is the last day of June, I'll be choosing {at random} a monthly follower to win a beSmart beGreen eco tote bag later tonight. Twitter followers included as well as google/blogger followers. Check back later tonight ...it could be you :)

Leave Me Alone-Stop It!
Just Stop Doggin' Me Around

...a few things about Michael Jackson

Michael-Jackson-video-still-vh1

1. Why does it take him dying for radio stations {and vh1-allweekendlong} to start playing his music? I mean, I could listen to any song at any time and be seriously happy. However, I fear they will now shove it all down our throats to the point of sickness ...that said, there is no question Michael Jackson will reign as "King of Pop" now more than ever.

2. Why did I never ever once think {until I heard it on some recent feature} that he was totally anorexic? He was unbelievably skinny at all times. Sad.

3. I have heard recently that he wanted to be known in his lifetime and after as "bizarre" and I wondered if it were true or if it was a story concocted as a scapegoat for his insanity.

4. He is a true artist in every sense.

5. I am old enough to remember The Jackson 5 cartoon ...which I loved.

6. No matter how hard he tried, no one ever believed that he liked women.

7. The fact that he died when the sequin jacket AND the band jacket ...both styles he popularized in the 80's ...are back in style. :)

8. I knew the entire dance routine to Smooth Criminal.

9. I bet Corey Feldman is really really sad. 100$ says he's going to do some sort of tribute.

10. I wonder who has the rights to all those Beatles songs he owns ...and what's going to happen with them?

11. Michael Jackson is in the group of ten or so musicians that were of my first musical and artistic inspirations and I remember how they all influenced me so much as a young kid in the 80's. I am truly saddened by his passing.

12.when ya FEEL. THAT. HEAT. ...and we gonna ride the boogie. SHARE THAT BEAT OF LOVE! ...sums up his life quest in my opinon.

{because you needed to know the 10 musicians that shaped me ...my "firsts" outside of what my parents listened to ...age 6-8: Madonna, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, WHAM!, Billy Ocean, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Beastie Boys, Olivia Newton John ...which may explain a few things}

* I hit the jackpot Friday afternoon at my favorite thrift shop. I love that all proceeds go to cancer research because it makes spending $265 a bit easier to swallow. Since carrying home two bags of some seriously ridiculously awesome vintage blazers which I have been absolutely giddy-in-love-going-gaga-over I have also managed to squeeze in a DIY. However, night fell before I was able to snap shots of the finished product ...this afternoon it will be up ...stay tuned ;)

What I'm Wearing
* Strapless Ombre Dress from Erin Leigh Heart. Erin sent me this dress AGES AGO and I fell in love with it. But it's clearly too sexy to wear to work without a little something over it but it's been so hard to find something that I like with it. I'm okay with this look {just got this cardi yesterday in the mail} but I think I can do better :) {please excuse the tan lines ...gonna have to work on that}
* Gray Caccoon Cardigan from Alloy.com
* Vintage Gucci Heels
* Vintage Chain necklace ...doubled with gray grossgrain ribbon and tied in a bow.
* Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses and bag

After my last whine-fest over my sad short/stright/blonde eyelashes ...Kelly @ My So Called Fabulous Life sent me some FABULOUS new mascara. I've tried so many mascaras and it seems the only one that did anything for me was L'Oreal Voluminous but Kelly said that this was even BETTER ...and I must admit, she is so right! I love it! It does take a wee bit longer but it's worth it! And it's also made by L'Oreal so you can get it at the drugstore. It's Double Extend in black Thanks Kelly ...YOU are fabulous!

Happy Friday Luuuuuvers!

DIY Ankle Fringe
...add it to any shoe

Jessica-Simpson-nude-patent-heels-bow3

ankle-fringe-heels-4

I bought these Jessica Simpson nude patent heels quite a while ago and would have returned them if there weren't $50. I figure for $50 I'll wear them at some point, even if under long pants because I don't really love how they make my legs look.

I probably wouldn't buy a pair of ankle fringe shoes but since the idea is so simple, I though, why not? You can make the fringe cuffs smaller ...to hit at your actual ankle but I find that sometimes cuts off my leg. The lower swag under the ankle bone elongates the leg a bit and the fringe actually changed the way my legs appear in the shoes and now I'm happy with them.

The one problem I foresee is when I walk, the fringe sometimes gets caught under my heel. Otherwise ...LOVE.

*sorry to confuse ...should have mentioned. Fringe is beige/ivory ...shoes are nude patent with light gold heel.

What I'm Wearing
* Forever 21 Dress ...seen here and here and here
* Husband's big black blazer. I found this in my husband's closet last night and while I deemed it an unworthy article for his wardrobe, it works out well for mine. It's a tad too oversized maybe and the shoulders are a bit too ridiculous but I kind of love it. I even like it sans belt.
* Vintage green scarf as belt ...seen here and here ...making it clear that I love to wear this burst of green with black and white ensembles.
* Jessica Simpson zipper booties ...most recently seen here
* Silver hoops and hearts earrings from the Farmer's Market ...seen here with front French braid
* Chanel Sunnies

Low and Loose Side Tucked French braid.

loose-low-side-french-braid

As I was about to use the curling iron on my hair this morning I decided to just try something new. I started a regular French braid on the side and just swooped it down, braided all the way to the end then tucked the end under and clipped it into place. I love it because it gives me a faux bob. I did wave the front hair and bobby pin it back. I could have braided it a bit neater but it was my first try ...and I don't really mind it a bit messy.

I'm lucky enough to have inherited much of my grandma's jewelry but I've also been collecting key pieces since I was about 19. One of the first places I check in a thrift shop or flea market are the jewelry counters. Something about old costume jewelry is just better made than newer costume jewelry and still has some weight and extravagance to it. Also, it's usually under 10$ ...or even $5. And you can't beat that!

It's easy to mix it up ...just pile on similar color shades and remove what doesn't work. Make chains longer by attaching them onto other chains or add ribbons {as seen above}. I also use pins/brooches on occasion just to make it a bit more fun. Get creative with what you already have and turn your old pieces into new works of art you can wear! ...however, keeping the outfit simple is key when accessorizing to the max ...you only need one focal point and a statement necklace is just that.
