Prada Inspired Chandelier Necklace DIY

PRADA Plex Crystal Diamond-shaped Necklace $895 ~ PRADA Plex Crystal Fume Draped Necklace $895,
PRADA Spring 2010 Runway

While Prada's crystal shoes are a wee bit ridiculous and the chandelier dresses are positively unwearable unless you're a celebrity, the necklaces, on the other hand are quite ravishing. Here's how to make one on the cheap ...that looks nothing but.

I just so happened to have about three of these acrylic crystal chandelier strands which I purchased a couple years ago at JoAnn's fabric for about $10 each around Christmas time. I'm guessing they were meant to be used as garland on the Christmas tree but I used them for my wedding reception in 2006 and since, have used them to decorate curtain rods. While I haven't found this exact strand, below are links to a few others that will work just as well. And if you don't like any of them, keep your eyes open around holiday season.

* Also remember acrylic crystals may not be as sparkly but they are much MUCH lighter and easier to wear than glass ...also look for it on a chain/link system instead of wire or rope. Actually, I would love to have a 'chandelier curtain'!

And since I tend to drape the necklace taken off my neck, and drape them around the nearest lamp shade...this little gem could give me double the bang for by crystal buck.

I'm completely lacking in the "crafty/ability-to-make-things" area -- I love your DIY posts, mostly because you make pretty things, but also because even a non-crafter like myself can follow your easy-peasy directions!!
