Project: Front Yard Renovation

When we moved into our new house in January, the entire front yard surrounding the lovely brick patio was covered in rocks ...and not nearly enough rocks to hide the black plastic underneath.

I hated it. When we signed our lease they agreed to let me plant grass. I said we wouldn't take the place if I couldn't.

Sometime in early March, I spent an entire Saturday cutting away the plastic and relocating the rocks. I created a border around the fence & plants and made a pathway around the hose area and along the side of the house.

I thought eventually, I would plant seed or lay some sort of grass. But even in this state, my husband and I agreed that it was better than the rocks.

And then last week, a little truck drove up and three men hopped out selling organic grass seed and soil. We couldn't refuse the deal ...for what took them 45 minutes would have taken me an entire weekend.

And now, one week later, we have the beginnings of a front lawn.

Grass+Studded Ballet Flats

And it makes me smile every day.

Oh yay for grass!! I wish our place had a little yard for our pup to run free in.. one day I hope.. now she just has to stick with running around on cement. Keeps her happy regardless... Happy Sunday Maegan!

yay I love grass (and I don't mean the kind you smoke). It feels so nice between your toes when you walk barefoot in the summer! Definitely prettier than the rocks.

I had no idea people wore ballet slippers in real life outside the studio! (I take ballet classes so I feel ahead of the curve hahah!!)

Carry on with your amazingness!

They don't do that here!!! I want a truck driving around offering organic soil & grass seed! Looks like your off to a great start!

I don't think I could ever stand black plastic with rocks atop in my front yard!

Great slippers!

Have fun with your lawn.
My side lawn had no grass before, I tried planting grass but the last two years we had a drought and nothing would come up.
This year we've had a wet spring and the little green sprouts are loving it. So I know your excitement.

It would have been a pain of a job to do yourselves!! It will look so lovely all grassed over where the pebbles were before :)

Damn!
They should pay you (the home owners) for doing this to their property !

Wow! That's impressive. Would you mind sharing the company you used and what they charge? I'm in the valley and our yard consists of weeds right about now...

Thanks!

I'm completely in love with your new house, it's so beautiful and charming! It has become the house of my dreams, I check your blog almost everyday in search of new updates about the way you are decorating it. Love it.
I even show the images to my boyfriend and tell him "This is the sort of house I want to live in in the future, promise we will look for sth like this" :)
Regards from Spain!

That's so awesome!! I definitely wouldn't want to live someplace if I couldn't have grass. Rocks do not equal a lawn.

Also, how wonderful that yard-planting guys just happened to come along. I wonder if I think about purses long enough, if a Saks Fifth Avenue wagon will come around. It would be kind of like an ice cream truck, only you get Louis Vuitton.
