Baking Bacon ...in the oven

cooking bacon in the oven - 7

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard "Maegan's makin' bacon" come out of someone's mouth ...mostly my mother's and my friend Erik who just calls me Bacon now, I would be a very rich woman. But I don't just make bacon, I BAKE IT!

Here's how I do it ....

cooking bacon in the oven

* Foil baking sheet, place {thick sliced} bacon side by side *
* Pre-heat oven to 400-425 {depending on your oven} *

cooking bacon in the oven - 2

* Bake bacon for 15 - 20 minutes {depending on your oven} *
{bacon placed at ends will get crispier than center strips}

cooking bacon in the oven - 3

* Remove baking sheet & elevate one side so grease runs down to the end *

cooking bacon in the oven - 4

* Place bacon on layered paper towels to soak up grease *

cooking bacon in the oven - 5

* Place paper towels on foil to soak up grease *

cooking bacon in the oven - 6

* Once baking sheet has completely cooled down, remove foil & paper towels & discard ...no mess! *

cooking bacon in the oven - 8

* Enjoy ...with syrup, of course *

Happy Sunday!

That looks delicious! So is it healthier that way then? (not that I need any more excuses to eat bacon!) I never thought to use an oven for bacon

Bacon is the one meat I could never give up... so yummy. I think I'll try it this way next time!

Karisa ...no ...not healthier ...lol! Wishful thinking ;) ...it's just ten times easier, is delish, and leaves no splatter grease to clean up!

this was the way my mum did it, a frying pan just seems wrong to me.

Isn't it the easiest thing to do? I have been making my bacon that way for over a year now. I wish I had found out earlier!!!

Oh wow!!! what a great idea! I LOVE bacon but usually make it in the microwave because I like it to be crisper... which doesn't always happen in the frying pan. This seems like it would work well too.. Im totally trying this next time. Might even have o have breakfast for dinner tonight ;) lol

I do this too! I like it because it's not as messy and it doesn't make my house smell like bacon as much! And I love the way it cooks too! =) mmm . . I could eat some bacon right now!

I have always made bacon this way! It's even easier and less clean up/paper towel waste ( I know you love to cut back on waste) if you put a cookie cooling rack on top of the cookie sheet, then put the bacon on that. All the fat drips off onto the foil, and you need very little paper towels to soak up the extra grease as it's all fallen off already! I usually just give the fat a little while to solidify too and then just pull the foil off, no paper towels needed!

This is the one and only way that I make bacon at home!

I get popped in the damn eye with hot grease every time I try to cook in a skillet!

Most people who visit always say "it smells like bacon in here again".

Ummm...duh. Bacon makes everything better...Especially on a sandwich!

That looks seriously delicious. And the fact that they're baked probably makes them more healthy. Either way it looks yummy indeed!

Okay...so I'm a little late. I just sat down at the computer after making & eating my BLT.

That way looks so much better & would eliminate me getting grease pop burns all the time.

Definitely going to make it like that next time.

Cooking bacon this way is the best! I think the kitchen stays cleaner, and it's less time consuming. Love your blog:D

"Bacon it is!" (tomorrow) Since the grease drips into the paper towel, it is healthier than frying in a pan. I like the idea of using a rack with foil underneath, too!

I recently became vegetarian. Between this and realising today that there's no more roast beef with my yorkshire pudding, I'm feeling tested.

I love cooking bacon this way! I drizzle a bit of maple syrup over the bacon before cooking it, soooo delicious, it caramelizes and smells amazing!

Okay, and now I'm craving bacon ;)

I've never made bacon in the oven, I will certainly try this!

One thing I DO make in the oven is grilled cheese. Every done that?

You know what is REALLY good. You bake the bacon in the oven, and you sprinkle fresh cracked pepper and brown sugar. OMG... its like CANDY!

Rachel said...

That looks delicious... I must try that sometime, but I don't think I'll ever get my head round the American way of eating bacon with syrup... Meat and sugar? No way!

Ying said...

This is TOTALLY how I make bacon because I always make a ton of it and it can't all fit in a pan. PLUS, the clean up is a breeze and NO splatter!

Kellie said...

Yum! So what about baking it is better than frying it? Is it healthier? Crispier? I love crispy bacon.

rae said...

I bake it too! It really is so much better.

I have found that putting the bacon on a raised wire rack (like the kind for cooling cookies) with a cookie sheet below cooks the bacon perfectly-- and eliminates any need for turning over or etc. If you can, try it out.

Btw, uber heart your blog.

The raw bacon layout makes a droolworthy pic. I could eat the baked stuff like chips!

Fortunately for my arteries, they don't have this style of bacon in the UK.

I am completely drooling all over my keyboard right now. OMG!

yum! I also bake my bacon. But I put it on top of the cooling wire rack you use for cookies and then onto a foil lined baking sheet. Most of the grease then drips off the bacon and it does not burn.
