I've been on the hunt for the perfect caftans to lounge around the house in all Summer {which you may know if you follow me on twitter} and am having an issue with not necessarily finding beautiful designs, but finding them for a reasonable price! If I'm going to be wearing it around the house, 1. I want it to be cute {still want to look sexy for the husband} and 2. I want it affordable because 3. It's just for around the house! So why is it so hard to find one that isn't ridiculously priced?! {thinking about DIYing one very soon because the construction is ridiculously simple!}
The above are my favorites that I've found online in various price ranges. Last week I bought a few cotton ones on Etsy from Thailand for about $25 each ...and that's about how much I want to spend on a house dress!
...but still, aren't they so beautiful?

these are great!!! i think i might want one now...
OH oh oh! Of course I love the expensive first one... But those no:s 7 and 15 are not bad either. And they seem to be more affordable :)
I love caftans! It is my mission in life to walk around looking like Diana Ross in the Mahogany movie...Just lounging in caftans all day.
I would tell you to try thrift shops but I did that and found the most beautiful one ever. It was a vintage 70's vintage one But that muthaf$*ker is soooo hot...as in 'sweat dripping down my balls" hot! It was made of 100000% polyester! How did the chicks in the 70's wear the material made for the devil all day!?
I can only wear it in Feb/March where I can still get a breeze. It's pretty though...but NOT made for summer!
(sorry for the sweaty balls language, I was listening to the Ying Yang Twins...FROM THE WINDOWS, TO THE WALLS...while I was typing this)
Pretty caftans tho! Good luck!
oh And I don't have balls:) I should probably stop now! lol
Cute picks!

you convinced me. I need one.
I want a caftan too! I saw a crocheted one in Anthro and was thinking about copying it (although I still have to wait for summer to arrive here). DIY! DIY! DIY!

Caftans are da bomb. Love them long, love them short, and that Issa one is drop dead. Guh. It is INSANE how expensive they can be. I have found some cool ones at my local vintage shop too.
Mrs. Roperly Yours,
Shannan
i love caftans! i''m definitely purchasing a couple of these, probably #7 and #14.
i've also been looking for a kimono. i would love any suggestions you have about where i can buy one.
love your blog!
Oooh those are great :D
http://aclosetfashionista.blogspot.com/
you should have a look at antik batik it is a wonderful brand. the quality is great and the kaftan is one of their signature look

i need #3. the more i see it, the more i have to have it. wah!!!
Definitely some cool picks. I have a few vintage ones in my shop right now, too. If you want to make your own, I've seen a bunch of cool vintage patterns on etsy under the vintage > supplies > patterns section.
I might need one now. I'm feeling guilty about my usual around-the-house outfit. Let's just say that I consider it a success when my t-shirt isn't inside out.
I always think of Mrs. Roper from Three's Company. Maybe you're far too young to remember that show? However the ones you picture here are lovely! I really like the cheapo one you ordered from Thailand. I bet that is really sexy on!! It's so low cut it would be amazing without a bra just lounging around. :-)
Here is youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NC8qmFJPM68) I just so happen to watch after reading your post. Perhaps it will give you some ideas on how to DIY a Caftan. Now I definitely want to make one before going to Aruba this summer.
It's coming into winter where I am, but caftans would be an amazing idea for hanging around the house - will totally keep that in mind for summer!! :)

you can find Rachel Pally caftans on Ebay very cheaply.....
I am in love with #14 I started searching to try and find some DIY hints, and I ended up just perusing threadbanger for awhile. Found one video where Corrine lists her favorite accessory DIY's and your chandelier necklace was the first on the list!
Can I ask what seller on etsy? I would love one.
Comfy & cute...perfect combo!
Wow - they look amazing. I am just thinking - maybe you could sew your one? You posted some DIY things on your blog and I guess a kaftan should not be too difficult?
Ahhh my favorite is the one you bought, AMAZING!
Hey girl!
Love your blog, especially your DIY projects and this post screams DIY!!!
Am I right?
Take care<3
XOXO
Pika
Yes, please!
I love them too! I want to make myself one like #14 (which btw I personally think would suit you awesome) for the summer (of course, if we ever get summer back -sigh-)
I can see it - like old Hollywood glamour. Prancing around the house in one of these - it's like the perfect solution... comfort and style. Love it!
you can totally pull these dresses off! they are gorgeous!
all are awesome..
:))
those are great..:))
they are all very nice, but my favourites are 9 (good choice) and 12 ! xxx
I'm totally obsessed with Caftans. (Well, obvi, I named half my blog after them) I have a pretty great collection, and Mara Hoffman's are my absolute favorite. Keep an eye out for those, they tend to be sheer and have a great shape that's still pretty sexy. At least my husband thinks so!
That ISSA one has been floating around ebay for months... we might have to fight for it!

Carey @ Corks + Caftans
DIY calling!! All the caftans are gorgeous but those prices?? ughh

Dang kaftans are expensive! I love the $25 one. I got excited until I saw it was $13 to ship it :(
Sad to say, I am not a fan. I feel like they make me look preggers. :(
I know what you mean... I am having exactly the same problem myself! Guess checking out Etsy would be a good idea then, thanks for the tip!
Love those dresses the black and white pieces are my favorit.
LOVE the one you ordered from etsy for $25 - you absolutely must post a pic when you get it.
However....you can TOTALLY DIY this. I made a short version of this same style in silk
http://drinkanddress.blogspot.com/2010/05/ending-suspense-my-new-favorite-dress.html
and am going to make this same style in a missoni style fabric I just got that SCREAMS caftan:
http://drinkanddress.blogspot.com/2010/06/sorry-to-have-to-quote-r-zoe-but-it.html
Do it! Seriously the easiest dress ever.
They are so beautiful and chic! I have seen at ebay some kaftans around 20 bucks... maybe you'll find one there!
Maegan-
I ordered the Etsy caftan sun dress from Nayacos that you also said you ordered in 3 colors. Did you get yours? If so I would LOVE to see and outfit post on it. I am 5'8 and I feel like it is just slightly too short on me. The way it is, I almost feel like it might even be too short for flats...eek! Anyway, hope to see yours soon!
Love your blog!
