A couple weeks ago I received an email from M&J Trim asking if I'd like to participate in a little DIY challenge. And with my vacation coming up I knew I'd have some free time to complete this mission ...so I accepted the challenge.

A few days later a package arrived at my doorstep and I opened it to find a beautifully wrapped box of gorgeousness: ribbons, notions, pearls & trims all in shades of soft pink and peach and ivory. My very first thought was "Pretty in Pink" and was immediately reminded of Molly Ringwald's DIY prom dress from the movie. The fact that she DIY'd it just sealed the deal for me and "Pretty in Pink" became my inspiration for this project.

And since I can't show you the DIYs on my blog just yet ...Here's a sneak peek {each photo links to the DIY now}

...and in searching for the perfect movie stills from Pretty in Pink I found this little montage video/music by Aly & AJ ...which is actually really cute. And considering Molly wore pink/peach ensembles in Sixteen Candles and Breakfast Club as well, the inspiration could really have been from any of them.

Your rope necklace is the best.... I can imagine it being done in a "sailor" way with red+white+blue and gold chains.
Oh my! You by far did the most with yours... I just LOVE each of your creations, way to go!
Yours is the best!!! I love that you used Pretty In Pink for your inspiration!!! XOXO
What a fun challenge. And your designs are fabulous!

Very fun and I loved yours!!
They are all nice but I just knew yours would be the Best! I esp. love your project one and two! Beautiful :)
you guys are the sweetest! ...many of ours are similar ...but we all got the same box o' stuff ...so what can I say. I wore my rose necklace as a belt and I'll be posting the photos later. xoxoxo
I cannot WAIT to see what you've cooked up!
Fun fun fun!! And I just checked out your goods, along with everyone else's... maybe I'm biased, but yours are the best, most unique, and I want that bark ribbon and pearl necklace!! :)

Oh man. Molly + Maegan = something I love for sure.
I couldn't wait, I had to go check out the entries! So fabulous! I love what you came up with and I can't wait to see them in future outfit posts :)
My jaw dropped when I saw your rope necklace! Tres chic.
I thought your twine necklace was really cool. Never thought of that when I was brainstorming. Great work!
Love the Pretty in Pink stills and I really enjoyed your pieces @ MJ Trimmings.
Oh gosh that box of trimmings is a little bit of heaven! I would love to recieve something like that- I spend hours staring at trimming in fabric stores!
What you created was gorgeous! Those necklaces are divine. Shows just how much can be done with just a little.
You ought to enter these in my contest "trimmed with love." They're great! http://melissaslilaclane.blogspot.com
Oh my gosh, those are all so great. Everyone made something so unique with those same items.

I liked your DIYs the best on the challenge. You never disappoint! I like how you can use your rose necklace as a headwrap or belt, genius.
