Refashion a Jersey Skirt DIY

unflattering jersey skirt DIY-cropped

begin with an unflattering skirt

refashion a jersey skirt DIY 1

preferably in a jersey knit

* I don't doubt these skirts will come back in style, and while it does hit at the right point of my knee to flatter my leg, there's too much going on around the waist, which is supposed to sit on the hips = unflattering.

What to do with it?

Cut it!

refashion a jersey skirt DIY 2

* Lying flat, measure up about 5-6 inches from the bottom and make a cut at the side seam. You may choose to cut both layers together {carefully} or cut a single layer all the way around

Creating . . .

an infinity scarf

* I wrapped mine three times for a layered look ...twisting it will give it a knew look

Or ...cut it at a seam

make a scarf out of an old skirt

and wear it as a belt

or wear it as a turban

This easy DIY most resembles the Unisex Circle Scarf and the Unisex Jersey Scarf both from American Apparel. This little guy really has endless wearable options. See what you can come up with.

Have Fun!

Well done.
My fave was the scarf -
While watching the video I freaked a little thinking
"dude she posted the wrong video, this is a striptease for her husband" but then I saw it was just me thinking the wrong thing!

I love this! I have plenty of clothes that I need to cut up and revamp. :) The belt look is my favorite! And I loved when you threw the scissors down on the patio. It kind of cracked me up. :)

OMG! I just did the same thing with a leopard mini skirt I found at Goodwill. I knew the skirt was too short for my 52 year old self, but loved the material and knew I could use it for something. Brought it home, cut it in two pieces and sewed it back together. One infinity scarf for me and one for my daughter!

So, I've been saying for ages that I was going to try one of your DIYs and as I'm fairly craft gene deficient, it hasn't happened yet...BUT I do have the materials for this one. I think it's time!

Love this idea! I literally just looked at a pile of old jersey skirts I have in my closet yesterday and was wondering what to do with them! Because you are right - so not flattering!

Love your DIY projects and that you never know what you can get out of an old piece of clothing that you would otherwise throw away.

My personal favourite is the scarf

very cool. i've been wanting to do with a t-shirt, but have the perfect jersey skirt to do this with. any diy or styling tips if i wanted to do the pulled fringe with a jersey skirt? I've been trying to see a clean shot of Project Runway's April and the way she wears her charcoal grey fringed scarf, but have been unsuccessful.

I clicked over from Chic-steals and think this DIY is fabulous! I have two of these skirts that I don't love anymore AND they hit way too low on my leg to be flattering. Thanks for the inspiration to finally do something about them!
