Big Blonde Afro Curls ... Revisited

huge white girl afro curls

What started out as a relatively under control-smallish spiral curled afro {for this "playing dress up" post in December 2008} ...slowly became bigger and bigger and BIGGER by the end of the night. I imagine if I had used a hair pickon it or even my fingers to sort of pull it out more, it would have gotten even BIGGER. If you're interested in getting this fabulously wild do ...you can click here for an old hair tutorial {that I should really redo because the quality sucks}.

A tip: for a bigger do use either smaller sponge rollers OR smaller sections of hair - or both which will give you tighter curls. If you want the curl to start at the top of your head, watch my video for instructions. If you want the top of your hair straight, as if you've been wearing a hat or like the Badgley Mischka Spring 2011 runway looks, roll your curlers from the bottom up and stop at your ears. And obviously, do it to freshly washed, wet hair ...and sleep on em.

I did this last spring, and then again the other day. SO fun to switch things up! But, let me ask. How many rollers do you wind up using? And how long does it take for your hair to completely dry in them? I think I wrapped the sections too large last time, and then I wasn't able to let it dry completely before taking them out, so it was still barely damp. (Had to be at church at 7:30am.) BUT, fyi, when I did that I got these HUGE, soft 40's type curls. It was still fun.

Damn girl, you've got the best mop on your head. I'm going to have to try this out. Though my hair is nowhere near as long as yours, so I'm not sure how short it'd end up...

Finally have the courage to leave you a comment. Your site continually inspires me to give my blog my all. Your incredible style and interior design eye gave me ways to update our horrendous bathroom in the new rented house as well as allow me to live vicariously through your ability to wear summery clothes (London too cold and wet at mo). Overall you are absolute super and I think I have a girl crush on you. Thank-you. www.fashioninfidelity.com.

Aha! Roll from the top...OMG that is life changing for me! I usually just use a hot roller set, my neck kills me if I sleep on rollers or even damp hair.

How do you curl your hair like this? :-)

Though my hair is only shoulder length, I decided to try this with my hair, and it turned out beautifully.

Thank you for your blog. I love it.
