A Contemplative DIY

Since seeing this image in the November issue of W magazine . . .

W magazine November 2010+gray jacket

...I've been contemplating DIYing this vintage coat below into something similar.

60s-shift-dress-wool-coat

But I really love this coat . . .
...but the shape and style and fabric are almost identical to the one above
... but I really love this coat
. . . and thus the contemplation continues.

DON'T DOOOOO IT! That coat is WAY to beautiful on its own, and will remain a classic for years to come. I usually am all in favor of DIY but in this case I vote NO! :)

Keep the coat! If it doesn't turn out totally amazing you're going to regret giving up such a great coat. I'm sure you can find another coat/figure out another way to make this jacket.

Nooo you can't, but you can go on a vintage hunt for something suitable to cut up. Like how I boss you around!LOL!

Don't do it. That coat is much to nice to possibly accidentally ruin it.

I'm in agreement with everyone else. Your cost is beautiful the way it is. I think DIYs are only worth the risk if it's something you don't already love and wear.

Please don't!!

I am going to agree. Don't cut up something you love. Find something suitable in a thrift store instead. :)

Don't do it with this one! It is way too beautiful. Why don't you try and find one at a thrift store? You have such a good eye for those findings. I am sure you will come up with a great coat to DIY and it will turn out great!

How about some faux fur fabric instead? Take two long rectangles, then sew them long sides together, part of the way, then you can drape the tails over your shoulder and belt them. Check out my blog, I've got an idea for a DIY lindsey thornburg cape!

Don't do it! Just go thrift something similar or do what you normally do...Get some ental floss and gummy bears and make a whole new coat! LOL!! You're the queen, you can do that!

But don't mess with this coat....the sleeves are superb as is!

I really love the coat that you have too - I wouldn't cut it up. BUT the coat in the picture is really, really cute too! Could you do a DIY with fabric from JoAnn's or somewhere? (says the person who can't sew a lick.)

That way you could have two lovely coats :)

Don't do it Maegan!!! You'll regret it for sure.

Do not touch your great coat....it looks fabulous on you. Look through thrift shops instead for your DIY. Sunny and warm up here again! Watched the Giants parade on TV. Have a great evening, Sunshine!
