Turn Wood Shelves into a Chic Mini Bar

how to make a mini bar from bookshelves+liquor display+home bar

before

wood shelves+36x29x12

black matte enamel spray paint

* Because I didn't want a solid black look, I sprayed only one coat over the entire unit.

In doing so, the original wood grain shows through a bit.

silver tacks+bar DIY+easy home decorating

* Using Nickel Plated Steel Thumb Tacks,{yes, the ones you use for your bulletin board!} I created a studded edge, spacing the tacks 3/4" apart. I lightly used a hammer to tap each one in. You can also use actual upholstery tacksfor this project, which stick out a bit higher instead of flat like these.

bookshelves into a chic bar+booze display+liquor+mini bar

While we're not big drinkers, we do happen to have quite a large collection of barware & drink paraphernalia. With no extra storage space in the kitchen, I used these shelvesshelvesI was going to give to Goodwill to create a mini side bar in our dining room & display all our booze.

The color happens to be perfect for the room {and our new table} and the bar works out quite nicely. I painted the shelves back in March but the new table spawned the idea to add the studs for a nailhead look {which I added this morning} and really completes the look of the bar, in my opinion. In fact, I wasn't happy with it until now.

This marks the first project in the dining room decorating process ...stay tuned ;)

I may have to take up drinking something beside beer. I was just trying to convince the hubby to get rid of his bachelor shelves, now I have a use for them.

Ah! I love this. My boyfriend is turning 21 in January and I've planned on redoing old shelves into a little bar.

I've found some really awesome vintage decanters and all sorts of stuff. This makes me even more excited to work on it after Christmas break!

This is AMAZING and BRILLIANT!

I have the same piece but thought of using it as a mini bar. Instead I use it my bathroom as towel, magazine and beauty product space saver. Lame.

Thanks for the idea. I will try something similar and share with you.

Our alcohol never lasts long enough to display it! I have this weird obsession with keeping our wine rack full. I've bookmarked a lot of your home DIY projects for when I finally have a home with enough room for them. This one is on the list. :) XOXO
