Well, more like 7 days and 7 nights but still that's maybe a record for Los Angeles ...and not one person living here knows what to do about it ...especially whilst behind a moving vehicle.

What I'm Wearing
* Simple black turtleneck sweater from Express ...years ago
* GO International print mini ...I would have loved to have worn this at my waist, OVER my turtleneck but it's a bit big and falls down to my hips. I used my sweater to keep it pulled up a bit and the jacket concealed any size issues, kind of. I'd love to alter it and wear it at my waist though. It was sent to me with a bunch of other goodies from Julie of The Accessory Files
* Black stirrup tights from American Apparel
* Hunter Boa Welly Boots ...which I love but A. They are not easy to drive in and B. They sure make aLOT of noise whilst walking indoors ...and not just squeaking on the floor, they sort of "clap" my calf as I walk. Hilarity.
* Vintage military uni coat and vintage Gucci bag
Pity Party Alert
Sometimes I just feel like I work so hard for nothing. I'm so over it. I'm not sure I see the point anymore.
PS. Having a catchy name doesn't make up for lack of skill and/or talent.
{if you follow me on twitter, you know WhoWhat I'm talking about}
update ...12/23
Thank you to all of you who supported me through this little hiccup. I so appreciate the love and tweets and comments, you have no idea.
I'm not exactly proud of the way I acted this day nor am I claiming that I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS EVER MADE A FEATHER SKIRT {though I did make this dress worn here in 2001 but didn't do a DIY for the rest of the world to see until October 2009 - of which was 100% my own creation}. The fact is, this was just the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak, and I exploded. Do you know how many times I find my DIY projects on other blogs without so much as a mention, let alone a link back to my project? I obviously would have preferred to not react at all but the fact is that I am human, and a bit of a hot head, and on this particular morning those two collided.
Here's the thing ...I woke up, checked my email and saw it ...and then got emotional about it. I got angry. I got so angry I was shaking. As bloggers, what rights do we have? I didn't become creative when I started blogging, nor did I start DIYing just to have blog posts ...it's something I've always done. I went to fashion school. I've worked in retail. I worked with a leather accessory designer for 7 years. I've worked with stylists & celebrities. I've spent enough time in a tiny LA sector of the fashion world to know that it wasn't for me when I left it all behind. But none of that matters. Why? Because no one knows who I was or what I did before they started reading this blog. And to even use the words "know me" is tricky because do you? Have we met?
With blogging, as with designing, there's no assurance that someone else isn't going to rip off your designs and not credit you. I mean look at all the fake handbags that are sold and cheap knock-off shoes of high-end designers. They can't patent their designs against theft. AND as a DIYer, my DIYS aren't always my own thought up creation. I straight DIY & recreate designer looks ...however, I ALWAYS credit the source AND link to the original product.
In a world where the right thing to do is rarely done, it sometimes just feels like a slap in the face ...and again, this was the straw but still, a glued skirt? That's not fashion. It's not even close. And even if I don't have the skills of a couturier {though I am trying to show a version for anyone to DIY asshole anon commenter} there's no way in hell I want my clothes falling apart while I'm wearing them. I mean, glue a napkin holder together, don't glue your skirt together. While it is a DIY, the point is that it look so fucking fabulous that people walk up to you and ask you where you got it and you can confidently respond, I made it.

Yes! As much as LA needed the rain, It's very depressing! I need some sunshine in my life! Love your rain boots! I so need some right now!
Lol, Yes totally know what you're talking about. ;)
xoxo,
MelRod
P.S. your feather skirt IS cuter by the way! I'm just saying... ;)
xoxo,
MelRod
Cute wellies! Great outfit, as always.
And I'll let you have a pity party today (the rain helps), BUT also want to let you know you DO NOT work hard for nothing! You and your tutorials, and DIY projects, and this blog are all amazing. So many people just regurgitate stuff and call it a 'blog' but you are actually useful. :) Don't doubt that you are much appreciated and loved by your readers and Twitter followers. Have a great Christmas!
I love the skirt & rain boots. Everyone's entitled to a little pity party. Besides, rain always brings out the gloom.
I've been following you for a while Maegan and you have such a sunny overall outlook on life, I'm sure you'll see how much your really appreciated & TALENTED in so MANY ways!
Just wanted to let you know you are awesome! I love love love your blog!
Saw the PS I made this post and immediately thought of your DIY feather skirt. Then I wondered how their skirt fit when the feathers are glued on. Like how can you get in the skirt now that you've taken all the give out of the fabric? As for the rain it sucks. My daughter is on winter break and we are going crazy trying to stay busy. At least I have a hint of sun shining through my window right now.
Hon, don't sweat it. You do DIY posts that are easily done, inspirational and cute to boot. Your DIYs are CLEARLY not driven by the products sent to you, unless you can really take pride in the end result.
You look soooo purty! I know what you mean by working so hard for nothing. My job has cut me to 4 days a week, no raises for the last three years and no xmas bonus this year, plus the cost of living in L.A. is sky high!
No worries, I know Meagan will show me how to use thrifted clothes and items for the house for that million dolla look.
I'm going to try the Eat and be Merry DIY sometime soon. Thanks tons for all of your GREAT ideas, outfit pic's and fab DIY's! You are so pretty you can make something from Goodwill look like it's from Neiman's.
i like the boots they are so cute. i feel like a little kid in my polka dot colored rain boots. you look great
happy holidays

Girl, your work is by far much cuter and practical than any glued together hunk of junk.
You just brush that dirt off your shoulders and do your thing.
Also, I followed your DIY and made that feathered skirt for Halloween this year. Everyone loved it and I'm looking for any excuse to wear it again.
Love that the Welly's are textured..
it's insane! did your pool over flow? i woke up and my parents was overflowing again! 5th time!
You are rocking Welly boots stylishly. I feel like that needs to be pointed out. Welly boots, stylishly. Incredible!
Loved the skirt mixed with all black attire!

I've had an issue with some of "their" tutes for the overuse of glue. It makes me wonder if they think we're complete idiots or just don't care how long it stays together. If you're gonna take the time and energy to make it, make it last!
Yeesh!
Yeah, there's more than one way to make anything, but your way shows that doing it well isn't hard to do.
I have that skirt too... I have worn it once but I can't get rid of it because it's kinda weird and cute... and it makes my ass look like a bubble. Nice.
I will be petty and say... your feather skirt is better! I don't understand glue on clothing diys... meh.
I wouldn't wear something I glued together... I also wouldn't wear a feather boa basted to a skirt. Maybe until you're sewing with a real sewing machine or hand stitching like a couturier I wouldn't get fussy over something so little. So sad, I enjoyed your blog until this.
I love that skirt, especially with the wellies.
Don't let other bloggers/people in general get you down. I like the tutorials on P.S. I Made This, but I think of them more as inspiration for making things rather than actually making them. Everything is kind of thrown together, whereas your D.I.Y.s are clever, easy to follow, but have an end result that is much more appealing and durable. Plus you have fashion, hair and home posts, which totally rock!
Maegs you are a professional DIYer. Not a 30 minute costume wearing creator. It's not even in the same ballpark so please, chin up, shoulders back with your sewing machine, talent, creativity and uniqueness in your back pocket and onward.
I am very sorry, but I don't want you to ever be negatively effected by something thats not nearly comparable to you.
love.
na na na na na na na na na nah BATMAN {sorry. no idea. just thought it would make you giggle} ;)
I suggest doing a youtube search for Kat Williams stand-up about "haters". It'll give you a good laugh!
Love the boa skirt idea. I actually bought boas last November but never got around to making it. I think I know what I can wear for New Years now :) I'll send pics if it works out as great as yours!
Also, I have the Jimmy Choo version of the wellies. They have a freaky grey "dust" on them though... it's like some weird dust fungus that grows on them even if I wash it off.
Maegan,
You are amazingly talented and adorable -- Don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Chin up and know that your readers love (or ...love ;) ) you!
xoxo,
Melissa
No compasion hunnie...YOU ROCK. P.S. I made it is good, but your instructions are soooo much better...plus you embellish your creations with your prettiness. Please keep the DIY's comimg!!!! I will cry if you don't!
I like your feather skirt tutorial by the way!!
You look cute even if you are having a pity party!
Seriously I am loving those rainboots! So jealous!!!

DITTO! to the first Nicole (third post, I believe)
@Jessica--I think you are supposed to rub a little olive oil in the boots to get rid of the ashy look.
I have the same skirt and .. it just doesnt look right tucked in.. I love the print and the idea of it being a high waisted skirt.. if you have a DIY about how to fix it ..I would love to hear it!!!
You said it perfectly, I too wonder why I work so darn hard??? And it feels like the rain is never going to stop... it is strange.
Love the rainboots with the skirt! Being from the northeast all the way over in PA, I can appreciate the trials of dressing for rain (and snow!)
I wouldn't let the feather-skirt thing bother you. For one thing, they have a point about mushy ebb and flow of how DIY projects are, by nature, often "rip-offs" of one thing or another. And in this particular case, I really think P.S. I Made This's DIY is different enough from yours to be considered...well, different.
Regardless, people who know DIY know you, Maegan. Your readers keep coming back to your blog not only for your content (which is always wonderful and inspiring), but also because it's YOU providing the content in a way that is wonderful and inspiring. To get too bent out of shape about P.S. I Made This gives them a lot more credit than they deserve.
DIY blogs are a dime a dozen, but I'll say this: I came to ...love Maegan for the DIY; I stayed for MAEGAN.
Those boots are hot. I covet them.
Please don't let wanna-be copycat bloggers get you down. You have such a distinctive, unique style that truly inspires me. I look so forward to reading your blog every day. You always manage to pull together such great looks that make me look at my own wardrobe in a different, more creative way.
http://dresswithcourage-elissa.blogspot.com/
Geeeesh are we really at a point where it's necessary to scour the internet first before committing to an idea to make sure no one else on planet earth has previously thought of it? It's a feather skirt. Is it completely out of the realm of possibility that this chick came up with this idea on her own? And even maybe has NO idea who you are?? You're not google.com for goodness sakes. When you invent a toaster with windows or shoes that make your a** hard, then you can be pissed. It's such a shame because I really enjoy your posts. Now I just think you're petty and conceded.
whoops, conceited! You're not running for office either :)

This is the weather where I live....I wish for "just" rain :)
Merry Christmas from DK
from Meghan in Santa Cruz, the rain here has been pretty non stop too! Usually we just alternate between clouds and weak sunshine all year.
I love the boots, I think I might need to get some some this year since I love wearing ballet flats ;)
happy holidays Maegan!
If they had agents for bloggers, you should have the first one. I think you are cooler and more relateable that most of the bloggers who get recognizition, especially for the way they dress and DIY... you're like Rachael Ray but cooler and prettier.... WAY prettier.
Agreed about the Kat Williams "haters" bit... look it up, laugh, flip that gorgeous mane and keep it moving.
PS: maybe try to get a book deal. You deserve one. you're pretty fly for a white {girl} :)
OMG - i always have such a hard time driving in my hunters...glad to find out i'm not the only one.. i have some fabulous company! lol it definitely takes some getting used to. hope you have a fabulous holiday, darling! xo
honestly, who leaves negative anon comments anyway. People who can only dish it out. low class of citizen anyway. If you are to scared to back up your statement, don't comment. If you are gonna say something at least have the stones to put your name behind it. I LOVE FEATHER SKIRTS!
Hey Anonymous... it's Christmas f-ing eve! Go suck a veiny one and stop spreading misery.
I left a comment on the other post with the DIY but I'll say it again here. I adore you. But I think you are waaaaaaay off base here. You did not create the feather skirt idea. Here's an example from Mood fabric http://goo.gl/R5r5K and this DIY idea is literally days after yours. I guess they stole from you too huh?
I think that the whole thing makes you sound incredibly jealous & bitter.
You are not the end all be all of fashion/DIY bloggers. Other people do the same thing you do and no offense some do it better. I'd suggest taking it down a notch.
Erika does not have to credit you as a source because there is NO proof she has even ever seen your version. She credited Tory Burch which means that must have been where she got her idea.
Seriously, grow up. No one ripped off your idea. In fact if we dig hard enough will find that YOU ripped the idea off.
When I got that email I couldn't believe it. It definitely seems blatantly stolen from you and it's ridiculous they didn't give you any credit. But I think you're amazing and so talented. (Um..have they even done DIYs before? mmNO!)
Do you really think WhoWhatWear went on your blog and said "Hey lets copy this!" really? I doubt it.
Just don't let it get to you though, there are a million feather DIY'S which they could have gotten the idea from so I don't see why you were so upset about it...
My daughter is the number one blogger in Canada and she gets the negative anons coming out of the woodwork from time to time,
the trolls
she uses them for good writing fodder
the problem with these anons is even though they are negative abusers
they have a tad of truth to their comments
but they use it to upset the celebrity blogger to their core
What they are good at is abuse
not much more than that
sad
Um, HELL YEAH! I've had a huge problem with PS I Made This for a looong time...sure, part of it was jealousy regarding how she was getting all this great press and mentions and features here and there...well, (as I like to console myself) it's because she's using other people's images in her posts in her collages - which make s a fantastic teaser - she lives in NYC and has worked as a "brand consultant" and "stylist" for many companies - and so she has a network that she tapped into, and got a book deal...and yeah, it's pretty freaking annoying. I think I would be ok with it, however, if so many of her projects were not lifted from (or should I say "published after"?) many other DIY sources...namely other bloggers. Not just you, but also Ruby Mines, A Pair and a Spare, and christeric for example. If you follow the online DIY scene you'll see how she repurposes others' ideas without so much as a holla or a shout out to the original. (Or is she completely ignorant of these other tutorials out there? Impossible, I say, if she knows anything about media, promotion, branding, and research.)
And the conspicuous and continuous use of the hot glue gun (on fabric! on clothing! OMG!!!) and re-use of trashy materials (discarded forks? plastic toys? a scale and ruler? paper for a necklace????!!) incorporated into her pieces always begs the question: WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WEAR THIS?????! (*rolls eyes*)
My theory is that like with junk food, a discerning, intelligent sector of the readership will eventually tire of her "eye candy" that won't hold up to actual wear when worn...and that people like you who are always honest, forthright, creative, and producing content with high-quality results will be seen as leaders once the sugar high (or high from the glue-gun fumes) wears off.
PS I Made This is PS A Short-Lived Fad.
Sorry for the rant. Stay strong and be awesome, leaving rubble in your wake!!

oy. it's so hard to keep track of things online and I often see my work with no credit (especially on tumblr) and people claiming "source unknown" - this sounds like someone should have contacted you directly instead of going back and forth like that in a public forum.
you and i have been tweeting back and forth about my newfound love, the asos belt, but i gotta tell ya - the more i read from you, the happier i am to have found this blog. you're straight up. no BS, no sugarcoating. thats very appealing to most readers!
Im a new follower to your blog... but i love it!
Maegan I love your blog and DYI. Everything you make is done so well and looks amazing. I don't understand the ps I made this hype. I checked it out once and found most of the DYI's cheap and tacky- yuck- not being petty just honest. Now I don't even waste my time looking at that blog but I always read yours.
I made a halloween Bjork dress outfit using the same technique (feather boas wrapped around with wire) and it's not because I saw yours. Its because of seeing something and realizing how to do it. You really can't take credit for that design. Not when feather skirts are as popular as they are right now.
It doesn't take just one person to think - I'll put feathers around a skirt. I really think you're (rather selfishly) overreacting.
From the looks of this you still believe she copied you! Even though she used different materials and techniques. I really believe you think you started this trend, heck I think you think you started fashion and you should be credited even when you weren't even thought of or the least bit relevant :/
too bad, I really did want to like you...
first let me link your hiccup so people can see both skirts.
http://www.whowhatwear.com/website/full-article/diy-feather-skirts/
and I like your way of it, BUT! if a person decided to sew on the trim like in the tutorial it'd be just as durable as a glued skirt.
alene makes fabric glue that bonds leather together, and how a person makes it shouldn't hurt anyone.
