Never in one million years did I ever think that I would find myself living in a home decorated with a cow's skull hanging on the wall. This is yet another item that falls under the "never say never" category. I suppose it wasn't until recently when it separated itself from the "Southwestern" or "Santa Fe" theme I had always associated it with {that is is associated with}, and instead became a standalone piece. O'Keeffe painted this lovely cow skull in 1931 which to me, doesn't at all give off a Southwestern vibe {though she was influenced in/by New Mexico & the desert}. I love the roses she added to this particular skull, along with the soft bleached tones which add a bit of romance to it. Couldn't you see it hanging in a totally modern setting? I find it really beautiful actually, and can seemingly stare at it for quite a while.

I can totally see that! Yeah and I have to agree, never been fond of the cow skulls but she makes it look elegant and serene.

I worshiped her in high school.... this painting always was whimsical and creepy at the same time to me.. i love every bit of it =)
She was one of the first artist whose works I really loves. Thanks to that, I begun painting myself. I'm very happy for that :)

Don't worry, the roses lighten it up and I'm sure it adds so much to your home- a little quirky but so cool! (p.s. love your blog :) )

I was fortunate enough to see a traveling special exhibit of Georgia O'Keefe many years ago when it hit the Chicago Metro Museum of Art. It is a pretty amazing collection even for those of us that can't be considered art connoisseurs.

When I saw the picture on my reader I immediately thought GEORGIA O KEEFE!
Hey seems like my art teacher did not do a lousy job....
we have a ceramic cow's skull hanging over our bed and i love it although sometimes i'm irrationally fearful that it's going to fall on us when we're asleep.
