I was kind of excited about my haunted mansion ghost table idea for our Halloween party, which is why it was imperative that our new table arrive by Saturday morning ...which it did. Yay. And with this ghost table idea in mind, I headed straight over to my mom's last week to rummage through all of hers and my grandma's vintage crystal and silver wares.

I loved the mix of the old-lady crystal glass next to the tarnished silver ...as if the guests of the table died the night of their dinner party & the table had been untouched for years and years ...but someone just so happened to stop by on occasion with new candles & fresh flowers, lol. I used old white sheets to cover the chairs and table, as well as cobwebs, and stopped at Bargain Yardage for the sheer white beaded/embroidered/scalloped edged lace to lay over it. I used an old lace table runner towards the back of the table as a base for the decor to leave enough room in front for all the goodies.

I loved the turnout, which I'm sure is obvious by the amount of photos displayed above ;)

That black widow is real. The husband killed it & left it's guts on the wall to warn his friends lol.

I can't wait to decorate the tables ...which won't happen until later & will most likely show up in a party post tomorrow but the tarnished silver in the second photo will be combined with vintage crystal glassware for a haunted mansion-ey tabletop in the dining room. We were pleasantly woken up this morning by the delivery of our new table ...& I then I relaxed.

the costumes

The husband wanted to go as Tony Stark ...rather, Iron Man-DJ {but the Tony costume is way easier} and I'm going as Black Widow, ScarJo's character from Iron Man 2. No, it's not super clever but I'm pretty sure I agreed to it for nothing more than to quench my husband's fantasy of seeing me as a red head {and any other nerd/comic book fantasies that may be involved}. So I bought one of those cheap costume shop costumesand will accessorize to help it out a bit ...as well as wear my red hair extensions I created last week, and hope for the best. I don't have a gun though or a holster but I'm using one of LeRoy's old harnesses as a leg harness which will at least give the look. Which is all that matters, right? Wish me luck ;)

MORE zombie face! ...I seemingly could not take a photo of this look without making some strange face. That shit above is killing me right now. ...at least it's on theme with Halloween.

What I'm Wearing
* Paul and Joe Paris silk dress {which I should have steamed before wearing} ...from a Gilt sale ages ago. Though it was more of a Summery dress, it always seemed so plain when worn alone {though perfectly subtle and classy to wear to a wedding}. It wasn't until cleaning out my closet last night that I realized how cute it might look paired with a similar hued blazer. I love the sort of 70's business woman vibe this has, with a modern touch, obviously. Loved the textures too.
* Vintage Ralph Lauren tweed blazer ...which literally is the same color ...last seen here
* Vintage Givenchy 70's perfume bottle necklace {was my Grandma's - tag says Givenchy 1977} and there just so happens to be one for sale on Ebay right now! how exciting ...and completely random.
* Vintage collar gold chains were found at a thrift store at some point, worn with gold hoops
* Brown belt with gold buckle
* Boutique 9 Galen Boot, Dk Brown Suede ...I randomly found these on Amazon last week and had to snatch them up. The price is great and they have a great 70's but modern feel and are surprisingly comfy ...though I was in such a hurry getting dressed that when I tried the outfit on sans socks, I forgot to go back and put some on and I was squeaking like Mitchell in his Spider Man costume on Modern Family all day ...which OMG was the funniest episode ever.
* Tom Ford cat eye sunglasses
* Louis Vuitton speedy 30 bag
* Title: Usher - DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love

SOOOO what did you think about Project Runway last night!??!? I LOVED the judges fighting between Mondo & Gretchen ...and while I may like Mondo better as a person, I have to admit that I agreed with Nina Garcia & Michael Kors about Gretchen's collection ...and {SPOILER ALERT} thought she deserved to win. Though I DIED for his high waist pants, and the plaid pants he showed last night, Mondo's clothes have always felt like they could be sold in the Juniors department of Macy's.

...a few things

* SOOOO happy it's Friday ..though I have 1 million things to finish before our party on Saturday night ...and hoping that our new dining room table will be delivered on time because as of now I have nothing to spread the food out on. omg.

* If you live in SoCal, have kids and haven't joined our discussion on BlogFrog ...what are you waiting for?

* Happy Birthday MoM!

*Forehead glare from flash is not hot. It's seriously time for me to invest in a proper camera

Rock n' Roll Video Game Room ...for adults

Rock n' Roll adult video game room decor

I've finally finished our Rock n' Roll Video Game Room and I just love it. The catalyst {besides our upcoming Halloween party} was the hanging of the Union Jack Flag print {from Z Gallerie} last week on the wall where originally stood only two golden stumps.

gold tree stumps in our house

...and a bunch of fake plastic instruments {that you can see us rocking here} -including our state of the art Dance Dance Revolution pads ...oh, we're good ;)

video game room nook+before

Last month when I was searching for a chair for our master bedroom, my brother {who's married to The818} reminded me of his two vintage modern burgundy chairs that were just sitting in storage at the moment. Thinking I could throw a white slipcover over one to hide the burgundy and match the master, I agreed to take both {the other has been residing in the guest room for the time being}. But when I hung the Union Jack print I realized what a perfect match {style & color wise} the chair would be under it, along with loving the gold next to it. The brick surrounding walls tie in the rusts/reds/burgundies, along with texture. With the approval of our friend Timmy, we had the beginning of our new and improved Video Game Room.

I added the large glorious orchid the husband gave me last month for our anniversary to the stump and a white Mongolian Lamb hair pillow to the chair and the spot was perfect. This was the only corner of the room done yet when our friends came over last Saturday night to watch Brock Lesnar get his face pounded in, where do you think everyone ended up? Right in this room.

The DJ Hero case resembles a guitar case adding to the rock n' roll feel as well as the sheepskins on the floor
...though those may only be there for the photos ;}

I decided that Monday I'd put the finishing touches on the room and hang our fake plastic guitars on the wall to A. Get them off the floor and B. give it a rock n' roll studio kind of look. Knowing that real guitar hooks would be far too heavy duty for my needs, I googled "how to hang your fake plastic guitars on the wall" and found a post on Fake Plastic Rock with the necessary hardware, went to Osh and found these screw in storage hooksand easily mounted the fake plastic guitars on the wall.

rock band instruments+guitar hero+dj hero+dance dance revolution pads+mic stand+video game room
Yes, that's a Mary night light on the wall & yes I used my leopard scarf on the mic stand as an ode to Aerosmith

I brought the second chair in just to see how it would look and it fit perfectly into the little nook under the window {this area used to be a bar but was redone before we moved in} with the second gold stump accompanying it. Because you can see this area from the front door, I hung the "Beatles" fake plastic guitar controller on the wall above the stump to keep the Brit/Rock n' Roll theme alive and found a little burgundy flower pot to house our mammoth collection of drum sticks {we have owned two other complete sets of Rock Band fake instruments, yeah, i know}. This is the husband's new favorite place to sit. When the Keytar is not in use, the husband uses the stump as a desk for his laptop.

I found these tiny little succulents at Osh whilst picking up my guitar mounts & palms and just fell in love. I should have grabbed 10 of them they're so cute! Not really wanting to plant them, I slipped their tiny plastic pots into little frosted votives ...which used to be filled Glade Candles ;) {removing candles from glass votives tip: fill with a little water then pop in the freezer. Once frozen you can take it out and easily pop out the cubed wax/water and you have a clean little votive}

The opposite side of the game room still is the same for now - TV, plants, a bit of video game clutter, and may remain for a while. And I haven't found enough great pieces for the 6x6 Expedit Ikea shelves in the living room to my liking to decorate/photograph and post it but I'm gonna have to come up with something before Halloween. For now, I'm really loving our new Rock n' Roll video game room. It's just so fun. I walk by it for no reason at all ...just to admire it. lol

What I'm Wearing
* Cynthia Steffe floral print silk dress ...from GILT ...seen here with my favorite leopard coat - I love mixing leopard print with this dress. In fact, leopard is one of the easier prints to mix {in my opinion} so if you haven't tried the print mixing trend, you may want to start with a leopard.
* Vintage leopard print blouse worn under ...last seen here tied up on the sides -worn as a jacket
* Sweater vest/cardigan from Alloy - fairly old
* Vintage black belt with gold buckle
* Vintage gold necklace & gold hoop earrings
* American Apparel Shiny Stirrup Tights
* Calvin Klein snakeskin pumps
* Tom Ford cat eye {anouk} sunglasses
* Vintage Gucci bag
* Title : Cat Stevens "The Wind"

It's so crazy windy in LA right now ...I mean it's normal for this time of year but I hate it. The wind feels chaotic to me ...like The Wizard of Ozcrazy. Though it's not even close to THAT windy ...it feels like it to me. I can pretty much pinpoint the reason why the wind feels like an enemy to me ....which just so happened to be on or around Halloween when I was 5 years old wherein I went as the Blue Fairy from Disney's Pinocchio and my mom made my wings out of wire hangers and chiffon ...but made them a wee bit too large for the tininess that was I at age 5. And when I got out of the car to go to school in my costume, I was literally lifted off the ground by the wind. Only for a moment, but I definitely got air. So yeah, needless to say, the wind makes me a little nervous ;)
