10 Ways to Wear a Light Colored Blazer

* August 6, 2009 *

I'm a real woman living in the real world. I don't have an overflowing allowance or budget for clothes and shoes and all things fabulous. And though sometimes I wish I did, I also have learned a lot in my years from having less than having more.

For instance, had I had the budget for designer clothes when I was young I may never have discovered vintage. If I could've just gone out and bought what all my friends were buying with their parent's credit cards, I would have never started DIYing my own versions of things. I became very creative out of necessity {and because I had a passion for it} and pride myself on being able to wear the same items time and time again yet styling them in a way that looks completely different.

I found this ivory blazer at a thrift shop a few years ago for under $10 ...it is part of a matching skirt/suit set and though I have yet to wear the skirt, I find the jacket to be quite versatile.

I like mine a bit over-sized ...and while mine's double breasted, a single button or two would do the trick just as well. Also look for one in an ivory tone as a bright white tends to look a bit "doctor-y" though this one is pretty cute

Here are a few similar ones I've found . . .

* Topshop 70's Inspired ivory blazer on sale for $70 not exactly the same look but still a great blazer
* American Apparel ivory Blazer $85
* Theory ivory blazer $595
* Balmain ivory wool tuxedo jacket $2980 wish list! great shape though ..if you're shopping vintage, look for this shape.
* Phillip Lim double breasted ivory jacket $650
* YesStyle double breasted blazer $88
* a bit of a shorter version but Forever 21 has a cute one here $24.80
* And this one on Ebay is pretty darn cute!
* Topshop ivory satin shawl collar tux jacket $135

You make it look really easy to wear a pale blazer. I have to rethink getting one ,)

Fabulous post and so inspirational. It is perfect how divers the looks are, I cannot even pick a favorite because you look fabulous. What I love is the fact that you combine the pale blazer with color and fabulous textures. I think the first one is my favorite because of that gorgeous color.

I love this post. The way you use the blazer in different styles I would never guessed it was the same one :)Goes to show what my momma always said,"It's all in how you style it, that will keep people guessing how big your wardrobe is." is so true.

So this might seem like a silly question... but how do you keep your sleeves up so well all the time?? I'd drive myself crazy pushing them up all day.

Love all your outfits/styling here!! Thank you for the list, I just might get that F21 one, I'm on the shorter side so it will be perfect for me!

I adore your blazer. I love that you took a moment to showcase some other ways you've worn the blazer before. I think people tend to forget that bloggers don't just buy all new outfits before taking pictures every day :) It's real life to wear things over again!

I love LOVe your blazer. I also love how blazers are SO versatile. They can dress up a casual outfit so easily, yet they never feel TOO dressy.

awesome.

RIGHT OFF THE RUNWAY, as always! Have a great weekend, Sunshine!

...love Maegan said...

ahaha! Ashley: if you fold over a bit of the end with the lining, but just half-way, your sleeves will stay up -mostly. Sometimes there is readjusting though and certain jackets/blazers fabric stays up better than others.

If you look closely at -most- of the shots, you'll see a bit of satiny lining at the end of the pushed up sleeve.

You do a quick fold then push! ;)

Love it! I was wondering if you would do a similar post 10 ways to wear a Maxi dress, since Summer will be here before we know it. Ideas on how to transition from day to night (shoes, jewelry, hats, scarves, general accessorizing) would be awesome!

That first pic is my fav and you are making me crave a cute bow shoe, preferably in the form of a Valentino pump. :)

I've been on the hunt for a nice white blazer and this post gave me all kinds of ideas. I love how creative you get!!

"I'm a real woman living in the real world." This is why I love your blog!! There are so many bloggers out there who have beautiful blogs, outfits and images but come off as totally unrelatable to someone like me, who can't spend the equivalent of a mortgage payment on fashion every month (nor would I want to, even if I could). You do a fantastic job of working with what you have, which I find much more difficult (but also more useful) than constantly adding things to my already packed closet.

Love love love the shoes and dress in the first image!

love well tailored over sized blazer and yours is amazing and for bloody $10, real steal.

I love how you make it look different in each picture. Sometimes I think we become confined to viewing items in a certain way (because that's how we've "always" worn them)... it's good to mix and match.

Wow, very impressive! I see suit ensembles like this all the time in thrift stores, but on the rack they look old and silly. But this post shows me that I should play around with those steals more often!
