Okay, I’ll admit I had high hopes for finishing my office makeover by last Tuesday …and boy was I off. While I do have my new shelves and desk system all set up and am LOVING it, I just cannot decide what curtains to go with.Originally I thought I wanted this room to be very glam and very feminine and very white and had my mind completely set on white curtains. And while at Bed Bath and Beyond the other day, I immediately fell in love with a pair of white silk panels and dropped them in my cart asap. However, I also found a really gorgeous set of metallic/gold panels that tie in my antiqued green/gold secretary desk I’m using for all of my accessories. And now I can’t decide which I like better. I’m leaning towards one over the other …but tell me Lovecats, what do you think?

White?
or
Metallic?

* Obviously, they both look better in person where you can really see the textures, but I can’t invite you all over to help me decide, now can I? …though it would be super fun!
Marina :)
White 🙂

In context of the pictures rather than the effect of the entire room, I like the white better. It has such a nice clean look.

changed my mind- white is better honestly : )
Naomi
Love the white…but you might as well keep them both so you can switch them out whenever you feel like a quick and easy change 🙂

Because your office windows don’t go all the way up to the ceiling, the metallic frame emphasizes their shortness and therefore makes the space look smaller. I also think metallic curtains are a little dated to be abso honest. I vote for white, white also looks fresh, and open and will make the room look larger.
Craftmaker
I like the white ones better, the other ones darken the room.
I would be fun to visit you and see them in person, though 😉
Rachael
I would stick with the white! It makes the space so much fresher and brighter!

white!! they look amazing.

I think I would like either pair of curtains if they were hung a little higher. I personally don’t care for curtain rods right above the window itself, but that’s simply personal preference. I also like the way the white ones site on the rod, more than the large grommets found on the metallic curtains, so I vote white.
Di Brito
I like the metallic myself. But whatever you decide I recommend that you extend the pole by 10 inches and pull the drapes so they fall straight up and down (framing the window, allowing the entire window to be unobstructed). As opposed to wrapping around the bench. If you have not already purchased the curtains I would consider longer drapes and raise the rod above the window. I can send pictures of an example that designers do. This increases the size of the window.
Amanda
Everyone seems to be leaning toward the white, and normally I am all about white…but I actually love the metallic ones more. I don’t agree that metallic is dated – metallics are actually pretty trendy right now. Additionally, they add an interesting contrast to the room. I don’t see how they would darken it, either…unless you’ve got them pulled shut!
I think it depends if you want something more defined (metallic) or something more flowing and open (white).

Love the white! Makes the space look larger and very bright and airy!

Oh one more thing…consider replacing the mini blinds with a nice bamboo shade, or paper shade. They make them so very very nice these days.
...love Maegan
I would have liked them hung higher as well …but I wanted them to touch the floor and not be “high waters” lol …and they didn’t have longer panels …only 84inches
Megan
I love the metallic!
Jordyn
White for sure!!! Love!
...love Maegan
even as I look at them, it’s a hard decision … the metallic really frame the window nicely and make it a focal point …thought the white sort of blend in with all the other white in the room and make the window less of a focal point …and I like both!!!
la reina cotilla
I prefer the white but I see you have a zebra rug, why not put a big black bow on each side of the curtains? maybe I would give a theatrical touch.

Brittany
White, definitely white!

Would go for the white ones, somehow like the white ones better. And I’m somebody who doesn’t love white that much…

the white curtains look better!
...love Maegan
love your opinions!!!
…more food for thought : I’d LOVE to remove the blinds but since this is a rental, I’m gonna leave them. And they don’t KILL me so I”m okay …saying that, I don’t like the top and the curtains at this height disguise them a bit.
…this because I noticed that they do make a 95″ version online that they didn’t have in-store so if I wanted to wait, I could raise the bar, but again, I kinda like how it hides the top of the blinds.
Nadine
I like the white ones better. Can you make the curtain rod longer? When the curtains are open they need to be completely clear of the window, and with the shelf below the window they are hanging at an angle.
(Are you sorry you asked, now that you are getting bossed around like this? What if you decide to go metallic, when most votes are for white??? lol)
Ashe @ Dramatis Personae
I’m personally a fan of the white… makes the space seem really vibrant and fresh!
Mitali
I think the metallic ones look better….they kind of give a nice contrast in the room..they would look even better if you tied them up with a tassel…this way they would fall perfectly…

METALLICS for my choice, just a little more texture & not too muh colour but adoring them! white is alright!! moomi in england

Not sure why but I am feeling the white – especially serene, laid-back maybe?

The white curtains make the space seem bigger and much more elegant – it’s a beautiful room so I’m jealous either way!

I LOVE the white curtains! i dont know why,but im more drawn to the white ones.Maybe its because it just looks more bright, clean, fresh, which i really like in a room!
EarthMommy
love the clean, crisp look of the white.
Jessica
Could you raise the rods but then add a whachamacallit drapey trim thing to hide the top of the blinds?
*amanda*
Metallic gets a vote from me!
Vivienne @ the V Spot
I like the white better (right this spring minute) but in the fall I will wish I had voted for the metallics. (Which are NOT out of date, btw.) Can you just keep them both and change them out seasonally?
I do think you should 1) raise the rod above the height of the window and 2) extend the rod so that the drapes flank the sides of the window. It’ll make the room look bigger.
You could always buy gorj fabric in the right length and use that instead. I just did a tutorial on new-sew drapes. My project was around $40

white looks way better!

i like the white! clean & chic 🙂

white!!

white! esp in a dressing room to keep things nice and clean and fresh.
I second hanging them a bit higher (I wish I’d done that, but my ceilings also aren’t very high), but I’d more hang them WIDER, so that they don’t get bumped out by he shelf thing below and will sit comfortably on either side. Them flaring out like that at the bottom would drive me insane!
Cara
Metalic!

oooo idk they’re both so beautiful! I think my vote is for the metallic.

i like the white… especially with the pink orchids!!
krissy
I actually really like them both, but I guess I’d lean towards the white. That said, I don’t think you can go wrong with either so pick your fave!
My only piece of (unsolicited) advice would be to purchase 2 sets of whichever colour you decide to go for, so that you can put 2 panels on each side. Right now, it looks a bit skimpy with only one panel per side. 2 panels would really give some body and lushness to the window.

white so pretty 🙂

I have to agree with the general consensus and say white. Love love!!!
Natalie {Where North Met South}
Ooh, from these pictures I say metallic, but I feel like I may change my mind to white if I could see the whole room. Sorry, not much of an answer! You can’t go wrong either way! Can’t wait to see the finished space!
Melissa
I like the metallic curtains:)
gigiofca
Metallic. White is clean, but they look a bit plain. I think the metallic adds some dimension to your space.
Kate
I think the white is great and it looks like something that would come out of a magazine. 🙂

The white brings in much more light…..I love sunlight and daylight……..
Liz
If you are going for feminine and glam, go with the metallic… It definitely adds a wow factor and I think you’ll get bored really quickly with white!
P.s. I think the fact that 90% are saying white is an absolute warning sign!! I would want to be different than everyone else!
Jody
So of course I have to comment on both… the white make the space look open, airy, light, and modern and the metallic add a pop of color, and makes the room fun yet modern still. Hmmm….. love both, but leaning toward white.
Lorraine
white Maegan. c: It looks heavy with the metallic. With white, it looks breezy. I hope I helped.
Stephanie
Metallic! It looks more interesting and has more dimension. The darker colour would also make the room look more cozy.
Sheila
White! It’s so airy and beautiful, and helps the other patterns and textures pop.
kimmie
That’s a hard choice. When I looked at the photos on my phone on my reader, I liked the metallic, but then now that I open it up on my computer to comment, I kind of like the white better.
Either one is fantastic 🙂

Metallic! You are all about the accessory and white curtains are nnot accessories. The metallic curtains look like earrings handing from the window!
Summer
ahhhhh, curtain choices are the worst!!! we’ve been in our house for 6 months and I still don’t have any on our bare windows.
that said, i like both, but lean toward metallic. it’s adds some depth and i love how it frames the light coming in.
obviously i’m in the minority though. =)
{julee}
Usually an all-white color scheme wins 10:1, but in this case, I love the metallic ones better. It gives the wall a focal point and it brings out the pink better in your orchids 🙂 The white kinda washes things out.. white walls, white windows, white bench, white magazines. Go with the metallic!
Nelly
the white ones!!
{ aggie }
White, please! It looks chic with your office!
Also, I may have been influenced by the pretty white Jimmy Choo couture shoes I saw in person yesterday 😉

white, for sure! and I would hem them so they would be more light and airy … move with the window.
Absolutely Mrs. K
the white looks better in spring, they look perfect int he sunshine and it looks a lot lighter. you can definitely combine it with bright colors like the pink to make sure that it is not too clean. cozy materials and color will be the total finishing touch. love the drapes because they are long enough. so white for this season and the metallic for winter
LivligOnline
White White White!!! Look no further… Just go with the white ones! 😀 Though I understand why you’d love the metallic ones (I’m a metallic fan as well, so stylish and “chique”), white definitely looks better in your room.
verully
Definitely silver! Love the diference between white wall and silver curtains… <3
Deborah
Definitely white!
Now come to my house and help me finish my new room! I’m having such a tough time making decisions and it’s making me hate my living room.

metallic, metallic, metallic, metallic, metallic, metallic, metallic, metallic, metallic, metallic, metallic, metallic…. BECAUSE, some times you actually WANT that dark, sultry look. Besides framing the window beautifully, the metallics provide something mysterious and terribly sexy. And come on… when we think of Maegan, we think sexy! Come on girl, you feel it …. metallic!!

metallic!

i am thinking metallic, but both look SUPER!

metallic- it makes the room pop a little and gives that extra bit touch the room needs to be completed. white just washes out and isn’t as noticeable.
Anonymous
Use white for spring and summer. Then change them out and use the metallic for fall and winter! They both look great!
Janelle
I love the metallic! But I’m not a huge fan of white in general, so it’s a tad biased. I feel that either will work once you finish it! You’re so good with deco! 🙂
Fred
I am leaning towards the white!!!!
Tye
I love the white curtains..it makes the room look brighter and they just look much better than the metallics..I just love your site..you are FAB and so inspirational 🙂

The White curtains make the room look très Chic that is what I would like to do to my office one of these days 🙂 like Tye mentioned it does make the room look brighter!

White!!! It makes the whole room look very pure. In case you like clean lines and simplicity, white is perfect. The other one isn’t bad either, though. Oh, and by the way, I love the purple orchid!
Molly
I like the metallic! Gives it a little variation.
As I Grew Older
Both are nice. However, based on the season and the color scheme shown, I would say white. If your wall was a warmer color then maybe the metallic
🙂

I prefer the metallic ones.
Even though, if you decided to go with the white ones, I think you could add the black bows someone suggest. As she said, it would go perfectly with the zebra rug and I think it would frame the frame the window.
btw: its the first time I comment, I love all your diy projects!!
I sent you a lot of kisses from Peru 🙂

I really like the metalic curtains.. Though i agree the white one is clean and simple, i think the metalic curtains add a pop of colour that is refreshing against the white background.

Without a doubt, WHITE!!! =)

With the white curtains there isn’t the contrast with the rest of the space, but with metallic curtains it is too much.
I like the pink petal curtains in silk for your Office, with your pink details of orquidia, is clean and fresh like the white but it is feminine and there is more contrast with the wall.
Mari (from Spain)
Nicole S.
Could you use both sets of curtains? I can’t tell if they hang the same way, but I couldn’t find enough curtains in the same color for a large window one time so I used 2 different colors and it looks FANTASTIC!! Just a thought!
Vixi
I think you should go for the metallic or more of a lighter metallic or champagne cream colour and keep them short, the length of the window.
Otherwise maybe try horizontal venetian blinds the size of the window with curtains at the sides left open and tied back for signature statement rather than functionality 🙂
xoxo
achmea
Metallic! White are too white 🙂
NICOLE
Metallic, they add a bit of shimmer and they look like they probably change color with the light that changes throughout the day. Kinda like jewelry for the room.
