My lack of extra time and propensity for perfection are keeping me from finishing my office makeover in a timely fashion but since I've been teasing you with the idea that you will see it soon, I feel the need to show you a few things I've done in the mean time ...and assure you that it is ...almost finished.

On a recent trip to The Sherman Oaks Antique Mall I fell in love with these deco lamps {above} but when I got them in my office , I wasn't 100% thrilled with them. So I went to Lamps Plus to get new shades thinking that would do the trick. And while the new shades did help, they are still a bit too masculine for this ultra femme space.

Then I remembered my mom had my Grandma's old Capodimonte lamps I've always been in love with stored away awaiting the day I might finally need them and we went digging. Once home though I realized just how disgusting smoking cigarettes in the house for over 50 years could make your prized possessions. They were CAKED with tar ...but the tar had a similar tone of gold/brass these Italian lamps already possessed so it was a bit difficult to see ...and more difficult to remove. So for the past few weeks, I've been slowly and steadily restoring my Grandma's hand painted Capodimonte cherub lamps from the late 40's to pretty again and I just think they are a perfect fit.

I kept the black shade to modernize them up a bit and tie in the black in the room. I'm in love. {though I do kind of LOVE this pink & gold shade but that might be a little much}

Below is a longer shot of the entire dresser {remember my Ikea Dresser Hack & Curtain DIY?} . . . there's a matching dresser & lamp on the opposite side.

The second project is not as exciting but definitely necessary. My cardigans, hoodies and scarves all found a home hanging from the back of my door & became such a mounding lump that my door wouldn't open more than half way. Ever.

. . . solution: Two 5 hook wall racks I found at Bed Bath & Beyond for $24.99 each . . .

. . . problem solved!

Yes, it's a lot ...and yes, on occasion I do get those annoying little hook lumps at the neck of my cardigans. But to have the extra space in my closet and in my drawers, it's totally worth it. Besides, my hair covers it anyway ;)

This is great. I love the lamp! I also really like your jacket/scarf solution. I have a similar problem, thanks for the idea for resolving it.
dang girl! you have more scarves than me & i wear them on my head hahaha nice solution though!
hi! found your blog today via the hook photos being posted on pinterest and linked back here. (so glad they did!)
I love your photos and I love hooks. there, I said it. i would put all my clothes on hooks if I could and never put anything in drawers..well, maybe unmentionables belong in a drawer.
I just bought some similar hooks at target on clearance and didn't know where to put them. They're now going behind my bedroom door.
confession: I didn't realize that was a mirror on your wall and thought I was glimpsing another room around a half-wall. yeah - silly me!
I have been reading your blog for a long time, however this is the first time I comment. I love watching how you create your perfect home, the whole process is really interesting to watch. I love your DIYs, I think you have very good ideas. And how lucky you are to have those hand painted Capodimonte cherub lamps, they are pieces of art, and can be quite pricey!
