August 27, 2009 + hair tutorial
In truth, I wasn't going to post today. I dunno, I just needed a break from my computer, had a glitch in the Matrix. But just before bed I decided to check my email just to make sure nothing was pressing -obvious addict here- and randomly stumbled upon an outfit from August 2009 and thought a look back may be fun.
I still used my Canon Powershot then, placing it on the edge of anything nearby, setting the timer and running to position. Then back and forth and back and forth until I thought I had enough okay shots to make at least 4 work. This was only soon after my original Completely Gratuitous Outfit Posts where I used my iMac photobooth to take all my shots. But what I remembered most about August 2009 was that it was the very first month I became brave enough to step out of the gallery or privacy of my own home, and start taking my outfit shots outside. OMG I can remember how embarrassed I was if anyone caught me... and EVERYONE would stop and stare, or even offer to help take pictures of me. Because who in their right mind was taking photos of themselves!?!?
So I giggled at the memories, though not very long ago, and marveled at how much style & fashion recreate themselves into the exact same things, if that makes any sense. I guess what I'm getting at is I would wear any of these outfits today, maybe the same way, maybe styled or accessorized just a bit differently and I love that.

So true for me too - I'd prob happily recreate an outfit from 3 years ago (maybe not 10 though!) but what I love about fashion style blogging is that it makes you constantly think of new ways to style the pieces you own, don't you love that?

I don't think I could take pictures of myself outside in public - way too shy for that! I usually end up doing the self-timer/run back and forth thing too...or the ol' iPod in the mirror :S

Heh, this is a great post Maegan. Just this month, August 2011, I've stepped outside (in public ::gasp::) to take some outfit shots. I feel kinda dumb, too...and hope no one is looking. I hope I care less in time! ;-)
That's how I take most of my ootd shots. By setting up the automatic timer. I love all these "older" outfits too!
OMG so so love with the first one - the bouncy curls and gold leaf necklace? I just saw one of those for the first time and thought it was a new idea -- you were way ahead of the curve!!! I want to recreate your first look so badly now... lol I feel like ppl would think I was crazy sauce if I suddenly showed up to work with so many curls, but who cares?

The first pic is my favorite, always a sucker for a good leaf necklace. I was laughing when you talked about passerbys when taking photos of yourself, I don't take shots of myself but am always taking random shots of god knows what and sometimes try to be real sly about it but my camera plays this little annoying song when I slide it open (very unprofessional pink point and shoot). Makes it very hard to be discreet.
