No Heat SJP BIG CURLS w/ Twisted Buns ...also known as Bantu Knots

SJP Hair, big hair, sarah jessica parker hair, big curls+no heat curls+get curls without heat+twisted buns in hair

If you follow me on Instagram you already know about this because I shared it there see photos below but the other night I slept on twisted buns to get these BIG CURLS just to switch it up a little which the husband LOVES. In fact he said "You know, you could do that MORE OFTEN if you wanted to". Big curls are a BIG hit around here ;)

Going to sleep in a head full of twisted buns for BIG curls tomorrow. #hair BIG curls from twisted buns (see last Instagram photo) #hair

In 2009 I did a quick video demonstrating how I twist my hair into the little buns whilst singing to Lady Gaga - but I only did a photo tutorial of how to get the finished look. So the other morning before I left for the gallery I filmed it for you and hopefully answered all the questions I've gotten about this easy little tutorial. Enjoy...

The first and last photos were taken at around 5:30pm in the afternoon so you can see how the curls fall a little and become big waves, though my hair doesn't get any smaller. I love doing these because they last a few days as well and they still look good. I get a real "natural" type of curly hair feel when I have them... and I love it.

I adore my short hair, but each of your hair tutorials does make me think for a second how nice long hair would be.

Wow!! I stumbled upon your blog recently and got VERY excited to see the hair tutorials! I actually use a lot of the same techniques on my hair, including this sleep-on-twisty-buns thing. I've since checked out your other videos and have gotten a few awesome pointers, so thank you very much! (I especially like the French braid low updo and cascading hair ones – those were totally new for me and totally gorgeous.)

What's funny is that absolutely no one I know messes with their hair like I do (and like you do) and some of the things you say – it’s hilarious because I totally understand what you’re talking about. Such as getting the best curling iron or hot roller curls after a blow dry. I hate to do it, but sometimes I really want those extra special curls. :) But if I said that to most of my girlfriends, they would have no clue what I was talking about.

Anyway, I just had to comment – was so excited to find someone else who plays with hair like this! It looks great!! Sorry for the novel of a comment, but I’m quite inspired by you, I think!

Looks great on you!

However, this is my hair's natural state and I spend a lot of time (and product!) calming it down to something more tame. :)

Hey Maegan, this video reminded me to tell you about this infomercial I watched the other day on these new "curlers" that came out, it's called the TopStyler. I think you'd be interested in checking it out since you're big on curling your hair :)

you make me want blonde hair again. i try curls sometimes but it just doesn't look the same.x

Well I have naturally curly hair but wanted to try this because I wanted to achieve a more wavy look. I did it last night and slept in it and took them out this morning and totally didnt get the same effect. It was a mess. It wasnt perfect spirals like yours were. Not sure what I did wrong. And you also have to be really careful of the bobby pin placement because it can leave indentions in your hair that can be ugly. Any additional tips? I think my sections were too small.

Hi, I've been following your blog for a while now, and I love your style, hair and home.
I was so excited about this, and then I woke up this morning. And my boyfriend couldn't stop laughing. My hair didn't become amazingly perfectly curly like yours. I do remember my mom trying this on me though when I was a kid, after an hour of tying my hair up I said it hurt and she had to take them all out.
No curls for me I guess.
