Halloween Costume Inspiration

It’s not a ridiculously original idea or anything but since the husband and I have just recently finished watching the entire Mad Men series, we thought we’d go as Don & Betty Draper for Halloween.

I’ve been searching a little online for some great early 60′s dresses & may buy a few just in case, but we’ll probably go shopping at Iguana in Sherman Oaks because it’s packed wall to wall with vintage dresses and suits. Though it’s a bit smelly and overpriced, it will be easier to find what we both need instead of traipsing all over town from thrift shop to thrift shop getting cranky & returning home empty-handed. Well actually I would get cranky if we couldn’t find what we need. The husband would get cranky because he thinks used clothes are disgusting and would end up murdering me for making him try on other people’s old duds repetitively. He has no respect for vintage ;)

Though Joan would be a bit more fun for a costume {& Roger is a hot silver fox}, the husband and I are already Don & Betty Draper-esque so it will just be easier. To get her short 60′s bob, I’ll probably do my easy faux bob {hair tutorial} or maybe just do a massive up-do. But either way, I think I’ll film it just for fun.

This is a little inspiration board, mostly for me to refer to when getting all Draper’d out for our Halloween party.

As far as red lipstick, MAC has several in their line and NARS has a line of specifically matte lipsticks :)

ANYWAY, I think you two would be a fabulous Betty and Don. You have the whole 60′s thing down pat! My favorite is Betty in Italy. That updo and outfit is one of my favorite fashion moments from Mad Men.

i am agonizing over the halloween costume decision. it isn’t easy! and i don’t want something cheap and tacky, but that is probably what i will end up getting UNLESS I MAKE A DECISION ALREADY AND MAKE IT HAPPEN. tick tock. lol

p.s. word verification is FLAIL. which is what i do in life. LOL!

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense lipstick is perfect for this costume – matte and super (I mean, seriously SUPER) long-lasting. The color is crazy vibrant, too.

I have actually been disgusted with Mad Men as of late since they put the word out we would have to wait a year and a half for the next season to start – - poo to that. But that first picture drew me right back in just like that. They are both so gorgeous to look at and their story is intriguing and real life like. I’m ready for more Mad Men!

I love the idea of Mad Men for Halloween. My BF and I just finished watching it, too, and I want us to go as Roger and Joan.
As far as the red lips go, I’ve been using Revlon’s Just Bitten in Gothic. It’s a lip stain, so its matte if you don’t put the gloss over top.

    Good luck!

Everything Betty Draper wears, I pretty much drool over. I’m at the end of season 3 right now and so, so obsessed. Thinking I might be Nina from Black Swan (so easy). Not sure, as I seem to change my mind every day.

I have a long lasting love affair with bright red lipsticks. MAC Russian Red is dark and blue based. Ruby Woo is bright blue based red but my choice for you would be MAC Glam, a hor dark pink mattw red. I can’t wait for the snaps!

    Hamburglar
Take some white pajamas and make wide horizontal stripes on them with a black marker or tape. Add a wide-brimmed black hat with a yellow hatband, a black cape, some red sneakers, red gloves, and a red tie with hamburgers on it. Wear a bandit mask (cut eye holes in a piece of black fabric and tie it around your face).
