A Family Affair ~ Christmas Tree Shopping in The Valley & what I wore

Christmas Tree Lot outfit- croc boots-flannel shirt

What I'm Wearing
* Paige Premium jeans
* Brown tee from the Gap
* Thrifted flannel plaid button down... also seen here.
* Vintage army belt
* Brown bag by Kooba
* Crocs buckle booty with fur... courtesy of Crocs. Admittedly, I wouldn't have thought twice about Crocs unless they contacted me and sent me a few pairs as they have but they're super smart because I have completely changed my opinion about them. NO, I still wouldn't wear the colorful little holy garden clogs, but these little boots are fantastic! See my big furry Croc boots here.

Tuesday evening we met my brother and sister in law at the local Christmas tree lot, as we do every year, to kick off the holiday festivities. This is Delilah's third year {look how tiny she was the first year!} and got all dressed up in her Dora Halloween costume and glitter pink Mary Janes for the occasion. I was a little more realistic in my outfit choice and opted for comfortable, casual & mildly warm. Last year was so cold I think we spent a quick 10 minutes choosing "good enough" trees just to get us back in the warmth of our cars. But this year was very stereotypically California weather, which was much more enjoyable... and the reason we stay in LA & spend a fortune on Christmas trees.

Say hello to our beautiful, yet ridiculously overpriced Christmas tree. I think it's the biggest tree we've ever gotten! When we got it home, cut it down from the roof of the car, carried it in the house, and set it in it's new home for the next month and a half, we realized there was no water bowl attached like usual. We got back in the car, sans tree of course, and drove all the way back {it's only 5 minutes} to the lot to ask them what we should do about it and they said this tree doesn't NEED water. More than that, it just won't suck up any AND it will look the exact same way until July. They had to be exaggerating as I still can't wrap my mind around a tree not needing water... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Meet our tree... our ridiculously overpriced California Christmas tree.

Happy Holidays!

Wow, is the price for real? I don't know exactly how much the trees in Germany usually cost, but it can't be more than 50€ at most. On the other hand they don't come with "snow" and you'd have to water them... It better last till next summer at that price. It looks very pretty though.

I love your outfit. Your niece's(?) outfit is absolutely adorable. If I had a daughter I would dress her up like that everyday. So cute! I never heard of a tree not needing water, guess that's why the price is so high? I must be something pretty special. You should hold on to it and see...decorate it for Valentine's Day, Easter.... haha!

The tree is not the only thing that is overpriced! At $80 for (what is essentially plastic) boots, Crocs must be headquartered in la la land.

No water?? Seriously, how does that work? We don't even think about getting a tree until the 1st or 2nd December weekend because of the water thing. I'm jealous!

Our outfits here in Minnesota are pretty much lots of down, scarves wrapped halfway up our faces, and not cute boots. You know the kind of boots, the kind that peeps use for snowmobiling.

I immediately remembered the outfit you wore last year to pick out a tree. I guess that means I've been following for over a year! (And I can't even remember what I wore to pick out a tree last year haha)

wow - $225 is high for a tree, but that's LA, no? and it is so very pretty! i'll be interested to hear if it does indeed need no water.

Hi Maegan

What a nice family tradition, your niece is adorable.

I have never heard any Christmas tree grower not recommending putting the tree in water.

Most tell you to cut off the bottom two inches of the trunk and then put it in a bucket or Christmas tree stand filled with water. Your tree may have been sprayed with an anti-transpirant but I think you still need water.

For the amount of money they charged you they should have brought it home for you and set it up in a bucket of Evian water, wow!

Have a great day
Nancy

$225 for a tree? We haven't gotten ours yet, but I'm hoping you got a really fancy one because that is more than double what we paid last year in DC
