Pinterest, Pinspire, very Pinteresting

pinspiration-inspiration

Eavesdropping on a random tweet conversation via Holly of Decor8 & Anna of Doorsixteen, I followed a link about a new copycat site called Pinspire. By the name I immediately knew it was a clone of Pinterest and while I've seen this happening all over the internet on various different levels, I wondered if it was morally right.

So what did I do? What anyone would do! I immediately signed up and began "pinning" just to see how it worked. And right down to the color scheme {though Pinterest is prettier}, it's exactly the same. I think the only difference is that it incorporates international users where maybe Pinterest doesn't? I also think anyone can sign up instead of the elitist invite system that Pinterest uses. {UPDATE: Thanks to my lovely commenters, the above two sentences are moot. Pinterest does incorporate both international users & allows anyone to join - so yeah, direct rip off. I will be interested to see how far they get as well} Really, it's the same as Tumblr or Craftgawker or We Heart it or any other site where you can pull images off the internet without really crediting a source. But it's also a fun place to store inspiration too. So, if you can't beat em, join em!

I'm a member of pinterest so they do allow international pinners. i wish i had more time to spend as when i do visit i tend to get sucked into a whole world of pretty for hours so i think i probably shouldnt sigh up for another similar site or i'll really never get any art done!

wow, it is a copy-cat - shame on them, at least try to be original to differentiate! Yep, Pinterest is definitely international and from what I can tell the 'request an invite' gets anyone an account doesn't it? Oh well, it was only a mater of time!

This is a direct copy. I'd be surprised if I didn't hear about a lawsuit in their future. :(

I'm actually not in the US and use pinterest freely, so the international users are welcomed from the beginning :) And I don't remember being invited to join, I just created and account and started pinning... It's kind of strange where you came up with this info...

P.S. I love your blog, I'm just not the commenting type, unless it's necessary :)))

Wow they could've come up with a better name at least; like one that isn't so similiar to the site they copied.

I know imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but isn't this just plain copying? For a place about inspiring creativity and a community, they're alienating a world of people who work hard to create and share original content by copying the template of another site. I suppose this makes me TEAM PINTEREST? ;)

Love, love, love Pinterest!

Oh my LORD! This is the exact same thing. It's so similar I wouldn't surprise me if it was started by some ex insider of Pinterest & he/she stole the first template for Pinterest because it is that similar. WEIRD!

rocket internet has been cloning US websites since ebay and haven't been sued yet. it's unlikely they will be facing a lawsuit anytime soon. for more info about the company: http://eu.techcrunch.com/2011/12/22/in-confidential-email-samwer-describes-online-furniture-strategy-as-a-blitzkrieg/

Tough choice between Pinterest and Pinspire. Why not have both? I'm enjoying Pinspire a lot though!

haha lovely imitation by pinspire, so original... Btw: you have to check out this site: www.likedby.com They are similar to Pinterest but without the cloning ambition.
