Simple & Pretty Christmas Tree Ornaments * DIY *

I found these rough little faux flowers when I picked up my hydrangeas a few weeks ago and I'm not sure exactly what kind of flower they're supposed to be {anyone?} but they have a gritty texture and are sort of light navy or cornflower blue in color. I originally planned to use them in my hair clip ornament project but they looked better hanging upside down than lying sideways. Pipe cleaners to the rescue... yet again! {see my pipe cleaner tree topper if you missed it}





* Cone shaped artificial flowers {or anything that looks great hanging upside down}
* Metallic pipe cleaners
* Wire cutters




* Remove flowers from stems. Cut your pipe cleaner in half, then in half again -leaving one slightly longer than the other.



* Bend the top of your shortest pipe cleaner {about 2"} to look like a hook or candy cane and hold it against the stem of your flower.



* Take your slightly longer pipe cleaner {about 2-1/2"} and beginning at the top of the stem, tightly wrap it around your hooked pipe cleaner and stem, securing your hook in place.



* It should look like this and if wound tightly enough, will stay perfectly in place. If you can't seem to get it wrapped tight enough around the base to secure it, you can hot glue your hook to your stem first, but I didn't need to.







Just hook them on your branches... so easy and so pretty! They would also be pretty as garland... just bend the hook to create a loop and string them on silver tinsel garland.




Between the white flocking, my clip-on hydrangea flowers, glitter and glass ornaments, and these coarse little guys, our Christmas tree is very textured this year... and I love it. It's safe to say it's my favorite tree of all time and my husband's too. In fact, he named it the Tim Burton tree because at night, it's very dark and shadowy. It's not everybody's taste, but it suits us well. Delilah stopped by the other night and said it was "beautiful" -in her own words.
