{note the lime green gloves & close-ups of cinched paper-bag waists, lol}

On Friday morning after getting dressed in this outfit for work, I walked into the living room where the husband was and this conversation ensued . . .

Me: Hey baby?
Him: Yeah?
Me: How's the sock situation? Is it too much?
Him: No, they don't bother me.
Me: Okay good ...do you recognize the shorts? {heh heh}
Him: Those high waisted, huge, ugly shorts? Horrible.
Me: They're yours. . . . and they're not that high waisted
Him: HUH!??!
Me: They are YOURS.
Me: They're your Marc Jacobs shorts {smiling}
Him: HOW ARE YOU WEARING MY SHORTS!?!? {I mean, almost mad about it, lol}
Me: Cinched up with this belt!
Him: *shaking his head in disbelief*
Me: So you think the shorts are worse than the socks then?
Him: uh YEAH!

apologies if you follow me on twitter & have already heard a bit of this story

A Glimpse of Paxson's New Nursery

DSC_0092

If you checked in yesterday, you'd know I spent my day at a friend's house redecorating her little man's nursery. It wasn't a huge renovation, just a revamping really. His mommy & daddy had already painted three of his walls blue and one green and began a little safari theme in the room ...so we stuck with that but gave everything a new home and a finished touch.

Since they are waiting for a few more items {wall art, a new mobile, & shelves for above the changing table} the room is yet to be complete. So here's a glimpse of the green wall, where the changing table used to reside. We cleaned out his walk-in closet & moved the little white cabinet in there then swapped the changing table with the shelving unit that was hiding in the corner on the opposite wall and really created a great focal point for the room.

I can't wait to go back and finish the project and snap more photos in the daylight when the sun shines through the window so beautifully! I hope the little man is enjoying his new room as much as his parents are ;)

It's Latin for Peace

DSC_0010 copy

I'm going to this little dude's house today to redecorate his man cave.

He was so thrilled with how I decorated his baby shower that he enlisted me again to spice up his living quarters. I do hope I can come up with something to please his exquisite taste in design & penchant for the colors blue & green, and deep dark woods as well as monkeys, elephants, zebras, and giraffes. It's shall be a noble challenge.

Also, his name is Pax, which is Latin for Peace.

Title: lyric from Thompson Twins "Doctor! Doctor!" {omg please watch this vid, it's beyond}

I can't complain about the weather we're having here in LA because it's quite nice really {sorry those of you who are snowed in ...though being snowed in & not having to go to work sounds kind of amazing} but it's really challenging getting dressed in the morning. I wasn't ready for Spring weather just yet, and neither was my closet. This outfit was actually taken two Fridays ago when it was much chillier and then vetoed because I had better choices at the time. But since my outfits this week have been less than post-worthy, this one doesn't seem so bad anymore. Both outfits I've worn this week seemed just fine while I was wearing them but after uploading them to my computer, they came across as insane lady who talks to herself while out in public outfits. Okay, maybe not that extreme - but close. I look in my closet each morning with a blank stare and after about 5 minutes and zero inspiration I finally just yell out "Pick something Maegan, you're going to be late!" ...And then I am the crazy, insane lady who talks to herself.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful DIY suggestions yesterday. There are so many great ideas! Please come back and add more if you find something new you would like ...I'm also checking my Twitter. With the exception of shoes {unless it's an add-on} and fitted clothes {due to sizing issues} and leather jackets because of the cost involved - anything is possible, home DIY are welcome as well. But obviously, if we're talking about ridiculously expensive materials, it sort of falls out of the definition of DIY. So, keep that in mind. But really, I LOVE all the suggestions so far. I think I may do many of these so if I don't do yours one week, I just may do it the next ...just sayin';) xoxoxo

New Favorites ...from the drugstore

DSC_0175

I went a little wild in the drugstore last week ...like $235 worth of wild. And do you know what $235 gets you at the drug store? Quite a basket-ful of fun! Here are a few of my new favorite items.

Above
* Sally Hansen nail polish 220 in Cafe Au Lait $7.59 ...I was looking for that perfect shade of nude a'la the 70's and this is perfection. {you can see the color on my nails on my DIY Lanvin Necklace post}

* Sally Hansen Lip Inflation in Sheer Mocha $6.59 ...besides the brush {I like a little sponge better} I LOVE this. For the past 5 or so years I've been using LipFusion which is $38 and Sally just saved me $31.

background: Kathie Olivas painting ...a gift from the husband a few years ago & one of my favorites in the house, vintage silver candlestick holders

* Scunci No-slip Grip Evolution Opaque Jelly Ponytailers (Pack of 14) $2.99 at the store $4.97 on amazon {link} ...hands down THE BEST hair elastics I've tried so far. There is NO SEAM. And no fabric to stretch and grab and pull hair out.

background: white porcelain buck from Z Gallerie a gift from the bro & sil

...and allowed me to create this bow-like bun {with one little jaw clip in the front to hold the fly-aways}

DSC_0196

* Organix Shampoo, Nourishing Coconut Milk $6.99 at the drugstore, $9.19 at amazon and Organix Conditioner, Nourishing Coconut Milk $6.99 at the store, $$5.56 at amazon ...A. I die for anything coconut so that, along with the packaging drew me to this shampoo and conditioner set. When I read closer it claimed to be Sulfate free and that sold me {but really it was the smell}. However, the duo did leave my hair tangled and dry. It works best if you're going for a messy, tangled, beachy hair look ...or if you're staying home. I still stand by DOVE shampoo & conditioners in color repair and volume boost ...and mix in the Mane'n Tail as well. yes, I traded in my Fekkai for DOVE

DSC_0203

* And last but CERTAINLY not least Kushyfoot lace foot covers. I'm not kidding when I say I squealed a little when I saw the wall full of these little padded-under-the-ball-of-your-foot socks. In fact it was less of a squeal and more of a WHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT?!?!? And then I said out loud WHY DON'T I KNOW ABOUT THESE? Because in theory they may be the best thing ever invented ...yeah, better than toilets. Well, no ...but pretty great. So of course, I bought them in black lace, white lace, and nude ...er 2 nudes.

oh also, THEY'RE $3.49 EACH. Yeah ...I know!

* I may have to go back for KushyFoot Foot Tubes Wrap Around Foot Bands ...because really, they may make like 50% of my shoes more comfortable. I hope so anyway.

Maeg-it Yourself ...a tutorial
Lanvin Drop Pearl & Chain Necklace

Lanvin Necklace $595

Lavin drop pearl chain necklace - inspiration for diy

Maegans-DIYs-materials
Lanvin necklace DIY + long chain necklace with drop pearls & nude fabric

* Silk, sheer, or nylon fabric, anything with a pretty drape {I used a vintage slip that had a layer of nylon/satin and a layer of sheer mesh}
* Flat oval links ox silver chain {Also found at JoAnn's}
* Loose Faux pearls {mine were left over from the MJ Trim Challenge}
* Tarnished silver metal head pins
* Tarnished silver metal oval jump rings {comes w/3 sizes, I used the smallest}
* Tarnished silver metal lobster clsaps {or not. It's a long chain, you don't need a clasp}
* 3 different Beading pliers {5 pack, 8.99 - the exact ones I use, got mine from JoAnn's}
* Scissors
* Wire cutters

* NOTE: This is a little more intense than most of my diys but still not difficult

steps
Lanvin necklace DIY + long chain necklace with drop pearls & nude fabric

* Cut fabric strips. They don't have to be perfect, but they do need to have smooth edges. Since I didn't have a luxurious fabric like silk, I used sheer and opaque pieces together to add some texture & variation. I also used the sheer to create one long ribbon-like strip. You may choose whatever colors you like. There's a teal and navy one as well.

Lanvin necklace DIY + long chain necklace with drop pearls & nude fabric

* Decide how long you want your chain. Using your pliers, pull apart a metal link to remove excess linkage. If the chain is long enough to fit over your head, you don't need a clasp. If you want a shorter chain, slip the loop of the clasp onto the open chain link & pinch it shut. You won't need the other part of the lobster clasp because you can use the actual chain.

* Weave your long ribbon-like piece through part of the chain and tie the ends in loose knots.

* String a pearl on a head pin               * Bend the top w/round nose pliers

* Snip the end off with wire cutters        * Close the wire with pliers creating a circle/loop.

* String pearl on head pin, weave opaque fabric onto pin and push it down

* ...add sheer layer on top. {to some but not all} You need to weave the fabric so it cinches up over the pearl instead of lying completely over it.

* Follow the steps above to finish {bend head pin, snip off excess, pinch into small loop/circle}

* Using a jump ring, add a single loose pearl to the top {circle/loop you just created} and pinch closed. Leave some as single pearls, some as one pearl with fabric, and some with fabric and two pearls.

* Using the jump rings, attach your pearls to your chain. Follow the design in this tutorial {of the Lanvin piece} or create your very own!

Overall cost of mine? ...under $20 ...I had the pearls & fabric though. Still would have probably been about $20. I had to buy the jewelry supplies {about $3.99 each, and not the tools} and only used a few of each.
