What I'm Wearing
* Very very old Calvin Klein denim pants
* Vintage sheer silk blouse with leaves
* Vintage gray blazer ... last seen here on voting day!
* Man's mauve tie ...I had to "tie" in the shoe color. I'm matchy like that, lol.
* Dark silver hoops w/black crystals, vintage necklace, various bangles, & chain rope necklace - courtesy of Trendenzas - wrapped around wrist and worn as a bracelet ... seen here around my neck
* Steve Madden mauve pumps ... last seen here
* DVF navy suede bag ... from a HauteLook sale
* Tom Ford cat eye sunglasses

* Title: lyrics from Thomas Dolby "She Blinded Me With Science"

Welllllllll ...did you watch the Oscars last night? Were you strictly watching in hopes that BANKSY would make an appearance? Or at least win for best documentary? Well, I was ...and was thoroughly surprised that Justin Timberlake was the ONLY one who mentioned him or the mystery behind him at all the entire night! A little bit of a let down for me really. The Inception intro with Anne & James was actually pretty funny and I loved the auto-tune Harry Potter & Social Network "videos". Also, I'm pretty sure Franco was high throughout the entire evening and having nothing to do with being "high" but more to do with having the mind of a 12 year old boy, I thought the same thing about the title "Winter's Bone".

Back to the most important thing about the Oscars besides Banksy ....who was your pick for best and worst dressed? See mine here, along with everything in between.

{this pose kind of makes me die laughing ...had to use it}

Dolce & Gabbana D&G Ostrich Feather Skirts DIY

dolce-gabbana-feather-skirts-runway-2012

Oh the D&G Winter 2012 runway show was so bright and cheery and FUN!
I loved their adorable AND UBER FLUFFY ostrich feather skirts in every color of the rainbow ...and of course I couldn't help but see them as potential DIYs!

Just like my feather skirt DIY, if you have nice thick boas and carefully stitch them close together, hiding any material below, you can achieve this look the same DIY tutorial. You can even DIY it to a dress just as simply!

Obviously, make adjustments as to recreate the D&G version by stitching your feathers closer to the top of your skirt {or wearing a t-shirt over the waist band as I have above}. You want the feathers to begin at your hips, take that into consideration if your skirt is high-waisted. If you'd rather not zig-zag your feathers {though it still may be the best and easiest application giving you the fluffiest results & using your boas is the most efficient way}, you can stitch them around the body of your skirt or dress but I suggest wearing it or using a dress form and pinning it on or stitching it on while the material is at its capacity. You'll get a better overall look.

*Note: the cost of ostrich feather boas are a bit pricier than the others ...but still less than buying ostrich feather trim {and trim isn't as fluffy}. I've found them for anywhere between $15.99 - $34.99 but the really thin {economy 1ply} ones just won't do the trick. The best are the 6 foot long, 2ply for $30 or 4ply for $40 each ...however, even if you need 2 of them, the cost will be considerably lower than the D&G version {if they're even available for sale} ...though it won't have the D&G label - - It will have yours instead ;)

Have Fun!

The Proenza Schouler PS1 Wallet ...in dark red

Proenza Schouler wallet

Design/Aesthetic = 10+ | Functionality = 2

While I think this wallet is absolutely gorgeous, the fact that it has only one lonely pocket - yes, one. lonely. pocket., makes it near useless to me.

Okay, to be fair, it has an open pocket/slot on the back as well ...and to be optimistic, it's great for cash and maybe a few cards if I were say, just running out on a quick errand. Maybe I could slide a skinny lip gloss in it with some cash and my ID and use it as a clutch bag for a night out? Cute! But honestly, I had hoped for it to be a replacement for the Burberry wallet that now lives in my bags, full of slots and pockets for all my cards & other wallet-ey needs.

Proenza Schouler wallet

Obviously since there were no alternate photos of the PS1 wallet on the Proenza Schouler site, I just assumed it had all the makings of a real wallet inside and not just of a well, leather pocket ...and, had I known, I probably wouldn't have purchased it.

That said, I do love it ...and I am going to keep it. I suppose I can find a separate wallet to keep plastics & such in and strictly use this for cash and other papers. *sigh* the sacrifices we make for beauty and fashion ;)

Browsing Vintage Decor Online

Dorothy Draper lacquered chest of drawers 1960's $3800

Last weekend upon researching my newly acquired Peter Karpf Oto chair, I stumbled upon VandM.com and have been sort of obsessed with the site ever since. There are infinite listings for ridiculously cool and unique vintage and modern furniture, design, & decor. Here are some of my favorites ...and these are just from the frist 50 pages of the "home" section. I'm seemingly having a penchant for all things brass and gold tones, sets of two, chairs, & lighting & lamps. I could peruse VandM for hours on end. If only I had the budget to do more than just "window shop".

Lion column lamps 1960s $5500

* Turn Your Strappy Sandals into Furry Friends *

Easy Fur Sandal DIY, Reed Krakoff fur sandals photo, Jak and jil photo reed krakoff sandals
photo credit: jak & jil blog

Ironically, last February I posted about the Reed Krakoff Fall 2010 collection ...how their sleeveless coat was rather similar to mine & how I was going to DIY their fur sandals. Well, a year later, I finally got around to doing it. What was holding me back? Well, the right shoe really. I was sort of set on a black strappy sandal that went up the ankle as the original did but didn't realize I had a pair of perfectly suitable strappy sandals already in my closet. And since I've had the fur lying around for months now just awaiting the right shoe, all I needed were a pair of scissors to complete the job. Here's a quick step-by-step for you.

Fur Sandals DIY

* Strappy sandalsthat fit snugly ...flats will work too.
* Faux fur. I found mine at JoAnn's pre-cut in the ribbon section and purchased one yard. If you have to cut it yourself, it's exactly 4inches in width.
* Scissors

steps
Fur Sandals DIY

* With fur pointing down, insert fur into sandal. Try on your shoe and adjust where you'd like your fur to line up at your toes and ankle.

Fur Sandals DIY

* Cut fur accordingly at ankle.

Fur Sandals DIY

* Mine ended up being about 7-1/2" long {and I wear a size 9 shoe}. You may also choose to cut your fur first, then try them on and trim excess if necessary. Adjust any fur that may be stuck under the straps so it lays nicely. You'll have a bit of shedding at first but that's about it.

*Note, if you have a pair of boots with buckles, you can achieve a Louboutin look as well.

My I'm wearing a lot of my DIYs today ...and a lot of details as well. Just an observation really. Like a comment on my own post I suppose. Nothing much more to say today ...except I LOVED this door. I think that's obvious though.
