How Do YOU Red, White, & Blue?

133561_uVi1kxMZ_c

Some years I'm very festive and wear red, white, and blue from head to toe for the 4th. And some years I stick to a solid color or a simple and classic look and just accessorize with red or blue. It all depends on my mood, but I don't think I can go completely without a hint of patriotism or festiveness at the very least.

...though in the off season, I am known to wear a nautical or red, white, and blue outfit every so often click the images below to go to my full outfit posts

* Seein' Double-Double, Double Vision *

layers, dress, moschino shoes, summer, hair, layered dresses + blonde hair

What I'm Wearing
* Marc by Marc Jacobs army green dress ...seen once here
* Black scalloped & layered silk dress by AKA New York worn under ...last seen here ...and I can't wait to be that tan again ;)
* Tom Ford cat eye sunglasses
* Moschino wedges ...seen once here.

I think I tried at least 10 different pairs of shoes on with this ensemble and none really worked. Even the Moschino's that I finally settled on weren't perfect but they did add a touch of whimsy, which was fun.

* Title: lyrics from Foreigner "Double Vision" ...in honor of my double dresses

With all of our shows over and Summer in full swing, the husband and I have finally started watching Mad Men. I know, I know, we are far behind, but I do really love being able to watch episodes back to back. That's how we did LOST as well. One June afternoon we slid in the DVD and got LOST on an island for about 2 straight months until we watched every single minute of island life until the next season was to begin. And now, it's Mad Men ...and while completely seedy in every way, shape, and form, we are loving it. Four episodes in and we've slid into the early 60's lifestyle ...well, not completely, but we do happen to be sipping cocktails a bit more. And we're not really drinkers. The husband has become quite the mixologist, having a Mojito complete with mint leaves and lime sugar rimmed chilling for me in the freezer when I get home in the afternoons. It's quite fabulous really.

I've been documenting: see my instagram images on tumblr

* Grow up! Kids Posing Like Fashion Bloggers *

Kids fashion

Now, I know these little tykes are models and all, but for some reason the recent dress your kid up like a fashion blogger in catalogues & ad campaigns kind of rubs me the wrong way.

Don't get me wrong, there IS something cute about dressing your kid up as an adult or a little version of you, AND the kids are downright adorable, but honestly, they all just look too grown up to me. It's not really the outfits that get me as much as all the styling, accessories, the poses and vacant stares and the model pouts. What kid is going to want to wear fake glasses or sunglasses, a scarf, a hat, a purse, and keep their shirt perfectly tucked in yet disheveled? Only on Halloween is my guess & only for a limited amount of time. I could imagine it gives parents of kids who don't look perfect all the time because let's get real, what kid does? a bit of a complex as well.

* Lovecats, I don't have children so I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Am I being too uptight, these kids look cute? Or do you agree, let kids be kids?

* Upside Down, Boy you Turn Me, Inside Out *

Vintage Anthony Richards dress with brown accessories

What I'm Wearing ...kind of boring really. But classic and easy.
* Vintage Anthony Richards navy shirt dress with bright red and white leaves ...or birds. I can't actually tell. But I scored this dress {which admittedly is a little big, but I don't care} at a neighbor's garage sale about a month ago ...yeah, she's over 60 so I'm pretty positive she's had this polyester gem since the 70's.
* White Victoria's Secret open cardigan ...I safety pinned the front/bottom behind me so it would stay put all day because it was a bit heavy on the sides. Worked like a charm.
* Asos leather boyfriend belt swirled and tucked
* Vintage gold sea horse necklace from the 50's ...also seen here & gold D&G watch
* Miu Miu platforms
* Gucci cat eye stripe sunglasses ...original post here
* Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 ...my go-to. Always great to have an easy classic that's always stylish ...with a vintage rabbit's foot charm ;)

* Title: lyrics from Diana Ross "Upside Down" ...one of the best songs ever. Please check out her dress & dance moves. She churns that butter better than any. ...1981. Brilliance. Michael Jackson makes an appearance onstage with her too.

This is the first weekend in so many that actually felt like a weekend. It was long ...and consisted of a nice combo of productivity, fun, and relaxation.

Ya know those projects you put off and off and you look at them almost daily and think when am I ever going to get around to doing that? And then the day comes that you just randomly do it. I spent a few hours on Sunday walking around the house with a little container of paint and a small paintbrush, touching up all the baseboards and doorways and anywhere I saw a bit of chipped paint. Yes, I am a perfectionist. However, why on earth can't a landlord paint a rental property with a primer before painting the walls white? Especially when painting over a gloss on doorways and cupboards? A strong gust of wind could come through and whisk the paint off! There have been certain areas that have been driving me insane since, let's just say, last Halloween when a certain fake vinyl bloody handprint peeled a nice chunk of paint off the coat closet ...the first thing you see when you walk in our door. Yes, I'm a maniac, but I'm so happy I actually finally fixed it. I also relocated 2 trees in our front yard that haven't been doing so well. Fingers crossed that they like their new homes and leaf-up!
