The Mystery of My Golden Stumps Solved

DSC_0258

When I found these golden tree stump side tables at The Sherman Oaks Antique Mall {for $25 each!!!!} I had to have them. They were just too unique to pass up and the price was ridiculously right. There is no designer stamp to be found on them and since they were used a bit I assumed they were vintage.

Upon flipping through a Wright 20 auction catalogue, I found {well, actually, drollgirl found} these "Golden Stools" by Patrik Fredrickson and Ian Stallard priced at $5-7K which were very close but not exactly what I had purchased.

My gold tree stump side tables finally found a home in our Rock and Roll video game room and they remain one of the most talked about pieces in our house.

Since I've updated the room just a bit, I thought I'd share a more recent photo (below) ...though unfortunately it's at night and a bit dark & lived in, but you get the idea {see our entire game room before/after here}

Last night I got another heads up from drollgirl about gold stump side tables at Joss and Main and squealed with excitement when I realized THEY ARE MY STUMPS!!

Not vintage at all but made in or around 2009/2010 by Mark and Julie Phillips -for the Phillips Collection ...below are a few photos from their site/showroom collection.

I LOVE that I have the full story now of the origins of my golden stumps! Thank you drollgirl and Joss & Main!

Here's a Joss & Main invite if you're not a member yet.

Well It's a half past 4 and I'm Shiftin' Gears

black and white diagonal striped blouse with red accessories

What I'm Wearing ...simple, easy, it was a bit chilly so it covered all bases.
* black and white striped blouse by Shoshana {I think I got it at GILT} - man, some of her bathing suits are so cute and THIS GREEN DRESS is adorable
* Simple black leggings
* 80's silver chain necklace was my mom's, vintage red beaded necklace, various silver bangles including a vintage red one and big red hoops were from Vegas I think, a few years ago {2006 because I remember wearing them to a friend's wedding}
* and my old Guess buckle heels from 2008 I think.

* Title: lyrics from Golden Earring "Radar Love" please watch their video ...just for a moment for the outfits and dance moves. It's so 100% worth it {also, it's kind of an awesome song ;}

Oh I'm so excited Project Runway is back on ...how long has it been?!?!!? Like a year, that's how long. The show was fun last night. Intense but fun. Man I love the panel of judges, including Heidi. Every single one of them is fantastic and ad so much personality to the show. Christina Ricci was kind of an odd choice for a premier episode but she looked fantastic. That dress & her hair!??! Great! Fabulous show but regardless, I'm just happy it's back. Thoughts on the show, those of you who watched it? I'm kind of LOVING Anya! The blond kept talking about how pretty she was but Anya is FAR prettier ...especially because she wasn't talking about how pretty she was for the entire episode. I also like Bert and Bryce and a few others ...but it's far too early to really know.

*Oh and also ...I did a review on Mary Kay makeup, check it here {note: I wear the eyeshadows daily now} - also, it's a giveaway for $100 worth of Mary Kay products so leave a comment for a chance to win!

D&G Jewel Embellished Shoes DIY

katie-holmes-instyle shoes +dolce and gabbana embellished heels pupms

* Katie Holmes + In Style Magazine Editorial + August 2011 wearing Dolce and Gabbana Fall 2011 jeweled silk embroidery pumps price upon request.

Maegans-DIYs-materials
Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-Materials

* Suede pumps ...fabric will do as well. These fabrics will hold glue the best. I was looking for black but all I could find in such short notice was purple ...found them at Aldo for $70.
* Lace
* Sequins by the yard in multiple widths
* Loose Sequins, various beads, leaf sequins {I used all gold}
* Rhinestones ...I also used a few vintage buttons {and I wish I'd had more honestly}
* Gem-Tac glue and paintbrush
* Needle/Thread/Scissors

You may choose to just glue your materials directly onto your shoe. You know how I feel about glue though :)
A.
I was interested in the texture I could build hand-beading the lace first. {took FOREVER}
B. I actually WEAR my DIYs and would D I E if one started falling apart while I was wearing it.

steps
Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-1

* Lay lace over the top of your shoe.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-2

* Cut out a pattern in a Uish V shape with extra room to spare.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-3

* It should look similar to this. Use one as a pattern and cut the other one from the lace.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-4

* Lay the lace over the toe of your shoes making sure there is lace overflow on all sides. Using your sequins by the yard {I used a single row but the S row would work very well} begin loosely hand-stitching your sequins following the shape of your shoe. Always begin at the toe and work up.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-5

* Your first row should look something like this.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-6

* Add enough to create a base of sequins.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-6-5

* Every so often, check that your sequin and beadwork lines up with your shoe.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-7

* Begin filling in the spaces between the sequins with your vintage buttons, beads, and loose sequins.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-8

* Carefully glue rhinestones in place hiding their edges with your gold beads and sequins. They are rather cheap-looking so hiding the edges is key.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-9

* It should look something like this.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-10

* Grab your paintbrush and give yourself a good amount of glue to work with.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-11

* Cover the toe and a bit up the sides with glue.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-12

* Carefully apply your sequin/beadwork lace, stretching where needed to meet the edges.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-13

* Apply glue to one side and adhere your beadwork to your shoe. Do this one side at a time!!

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-14

* Again, stretch your lace to fit your area as best you can. It should look like this.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-15

* Once your glue dries {or go back and forth from shoe to shoe to save time} you'll have to hand-stitch loose beads and sequins to fill in the spaces {also, I'm a perfectionist}. You can glue in more rhinestones at this point to fill in areas as well.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-16

* I kind of cheated on the heel a bit ...using stretch sequins glued directly on the heel {follow glue steps above} but it's threaded backing is beneficial.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-19

* And glue in sequins to fill the spaces left.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-18

* Once your glue is dry, hand-stich your sequins to the lace and beadwork to secure it {you don't want your shoes to fall apart while you're wearing them do you?}

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-20

* Also secure your stretch sequins by stitching them closed on the inner heel.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-21

* I also went through and added texture by stitching beads and gems into the heel. It has to look the same as the rest of the shoe. You can do this while you're doing the step above, combine the two.

Dolce and Gabbana Embellished Pumps-Shoes-DIY-22

* Trim your lace.

stained by sharpie

* If your shoes are black you can skip this step. I used a STAINED by Sharpie to easily darken any purple that was peeking out the top.

This is the longest DIY in the history of DIYS ...and obviously, not everyone's cup of tea. But they are very very fun and I think I shall have to wear them very, very soon. Maybe with my black lace up cropped jeans ...I dunno, but something simple as these will certainly be the focal point of the outfit! {now I just have to do a matching clutch!}

Have Fun!

Waits at the window ...wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. Who is it for?

dressing in neutrals and cat eyes

What I'm Wearing
* Vintage ivory/white linen Ralph Lauren double breasted dress.
* Victoria's Secret open cardigan in dark olive
* Animal print scarf ...which is just a yard or so of sheer fabric ...I used some of it in a DIY
* Vintage gold cuff bracelet and gold watch ...again, simple accessories
* Pour La Victoire Vanna buckle sandal ...on sale NOW AT GILT.
* Tom Ford cat eyes ...still going strong.
* Louis Vuitton Damier Azur Noe bag

* Title: lyrics from The Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" ...one of my favorites.

To be quite honest, I felt like a flight attendant stuck somewhere between the 60's and the 80's in this outfit ...but I kind of loved it.

Thank you all so very much for participating in naming Stray Cat! I'm happy to say that Achilles is winning by a landslide ...and thank you all for your expert cat advice. It is much appreciated as I'm a virgin cat owner. A tiny update: when I brought the tuna out to feed him his dinner last night, he was much more gentle and even started eating it while I was still kneeling by his dish. That was a first and it was sweet. It's crazy how quickly this cat has won my heart really. It was completely unexpected ;)
