Zig Zag French Braid Hair Tutorial

 french braid updo with flower

I randomly created this fun snake french braid {or zig zag french braid} the other day and though I haven't seen it before, it doesn't mean it doesn't already exist somewhere with an entirely different name. But obviously, I had to share it with you. It's easy but difficult, if that makes sense. The one I wore the other day was on day dirty hair and was much looser. I've included a few of those photos here as well just to compare the two. I can't tell which version I like better though I'm leaning towards the looser/messier one for a daily look. However, if I was planning on wearing the style for a fancy event, I'd go with the tighter version. Enjoy!

When it's Love it'll last Forever

jeans and a blazer

What I'm Wearing
* Vintage plaid blazer, thrifted
* Hudson jeans - Nico Midrise Super Skinny Purple Coated Jeans {though they look more purple on the site than they do in reality. They're much more subtle} and I actually LOVE these. They are my first pair of Hudson jeans {courtesy of Hudson jeans} and are fantastically comfortable with no muffin top action to speak of. I also ordered a size smaller than I normally wear {a 28 instead of a 29} and they fit perfectly. So I suggest sizing down one!
* Beatles tank by Junk Food... I LOVE the fit of these tanks.
* Black snake cuff by Jigsaw London & on sale for $25 now!
* Woven leather black bag also by Jigsaw London - and looks to be sold out... though they have a bunch of new ones I'm in love with.
* Jean Michel Cazabat black suede pumps from a GILT sale
* Tom Ford cat eye sunglasses
* Ben Amun earrings and brooch I made from a rhinestone necklace

* Hair: snaky french braid... HAIR TUTORIAL HERE

* Title: lyrics from Van Halen - When It's Love

I am so so SO happy to feel alive again... it's strange how being sick can really give you perspective on what's important: Health. Period. And I am jumping for joy that I have mine again. Though being sick and on the chicken soup diet for 5 days straight did subtract a few lbs from my frame that I can't say I'm too upset about really.

We're going to get our Christmas tree this evening and I couldn't be more excited. I'm Christmas Crafting like crazy and am excited to share it all with you. I thought you guys would be excited to link up your crafts but not too many of you were on board so unless it increases today, I probably won't include the link up for the remainder of the month. In other news: I can't believe it's the end of the year already. I'm sure I say this every year and I'm not alone but wow, time flies.

Livening Up Old Christmas Ornaments

christmas ornaments -making tree ornaments

I have about 4 boxes of old Christmas ornaments that belonged to my parents in the 70's... and actually may have even been purchased earlier than the 70's(?) Many of them are silver and teal but are sort of tarnished and spotted and I normally don't use them because I find them big & boring. So I thought why not add some sparkle with my Martha Stewart glitter glues? They're easy, mess-free, and fun! I suppose you could also create a similar effect with glue and fine loose glitter as well. My favorite is the teal polka-dotted one with hematite glitter, but I'm really loving the antique feel it adds to my boring vintage balls.

* Vintage or old Christmas ornaments. ***Plastic ornaments or those that are too glossy will not work as well unless treated first to create a texture the glue can adhere to.
* Martha Stewart Glitter Glue

* Test out your glitter glue.

* Create your design.

TIPS:
* My very fine dots, which I LOVED, didn't stay put on the super glossy, newer ornaments.
* I made one with Delilah's name using a plastic ornament and the thin lines of glitter glue just slipped right off.
* I think a thicker coat of glue would help but really, the balls need a sort of texture for the glue to adhere to. Maybe a bit of sandpaper or using a light coat of acetone would do the trick? I dunno... check that out before you try it!
* The white glitter glue looked like snow, which was fun.

Here are my mistakes... which were kind of a bummer really because I loved these two!

I made so many of them but the ones I've shown are my favorites.

Combing Mongolian Fur Pillows

Rock n' Roll adult video game room decor

In the Fall of last year, I purchased two Mongolian Fur pillows for our game room (seen above). *our game room has changed a bit since then

And now, just over a year later this is what they look like.

Sad. Mangled. Miserable. Angry even.

mongolian fur pillow after a year black and white

Granted, they are not best quality of Mongolian pillows nor do we take care of them as we should. In fact, these type of decorative pillows should most probably sit in a formal living room that doesn't get much action but looks really pretty. Ours were in our game room. The room where mostly boys live. This is no home for Mongolian fur pillows.

And then I had an idea... before tossing them in the goodwill pile, why not just comb out the hair? It couldn't hurt to try considering the shape they were in. So I found my ginormous shower comb {which I never use} and gently combed out the hairs.

And it worked. Swimmingly.

And now I can keep them. All is well. ;)

Happy Saturday!

My Holiday Dresses for the Season

sequined knee length dress-taupe sequin dress

brown sequin slouchy dress and shoes

* Jigsaw London just sent me this fabulously slouchy sequined dress in a warm taupey-brown-champagne color to wear to my cousin's rehearsal dinner, which of course, I didn't attend. But now it's a major Thanksgiving outfit contender! I love how versatile it is. It comes as you see it in the first photo, I added a tassel sash belt and kept it long in the second shot. But really, I'll most likely wear it with opaque black tights and black suede heels which blend so well, you can't tell where leg ends and foot begins. *See my Instagram shot. * Gold shoes are Jerome C. Rousseau. * Black shoes are Jean-Michel Cazabat

I know I just posted this dress I wore to the Murder Mystery Dinner but it's still new {well, vintage, but new to me} and definitely part of the holiday group. Styled a bit differently, one may not even recognize that it's the same dress ;)

vintage bill blass animal print dress

I found this amazing vintage Bill Blass silk leopard print dress from the 70's on Etsy and I fell in love. 86Vintage has become one of my favorite vintage Etsy shops because of it! They have GREAT finds and fair prices for vintage. * AND from Friday the 25th thru Sunday the 27th my readers get 25% off! CLICK HERE & use the code 1YEAR1.

When the husband and I were out shopping for our Halloween costumes, this was one of the only vintage dresses from the 50's I tried on that fit not only in the waist and hips, but in the chest and arms as well. And I just happened to love it. I knew I wouldn't wear it as my costume but instead with a black slip underneath, or if I'm feeling sassy, vintage undergarments. * DIY Houndstooth shoes. * Theyskens' Theory crushed velvet flats

leopard print dress with tassel necklace

This is just an easy dress by Walter I found on GILT but with tights and a black blazer and maybe a belt, would be a great go-to for any sort of last minute or less-than-fancy-but-dressed up holiday dates.

Lace Bustier Halter DIY - with bow

This isn't actually a dress but I've been dying to wear my lace halter bustier with a pair of black Alice and Olivia high-waist satin trousers with maybe a bright red shoe and red lip! Like I said, dying to wear it!

navy sequined mini dress

And last but not least, my navy sequined mini dress is always a fun holiday option. I bought it from ModCloth last year to wear to New Year's Eve, but changed plans and we stayed in instead. It remained in my closet until Summer when I wore it at the BlogHer Sparklecorn party. It's short but not ridiculous... alright, close to ridiculous but with my navy satin Ferragamo pumps, it's a festive duo!
