Mon chandail dit Bonjour en Francais et je l'aime...

What I'm Wearing...

* Boujour! sweater from Asos.
* Vintage red blouse worn under.
* The BoyFriend jeans from Current/Elliott {I bought them a size bigger and love the extra baggy "boyfriend" look - even though I still kind of think I may want my regular size too :/ }.
* Tiffany "T" necklace, gold & rosegold branch bracelets, Kenneth Cole watch, Made Her Think rose gold and drop stud earrings
* Tom Ford sunglasses... I still love these but I am dying for a new pair of sunnies.
* Alice + Olivia snakeskin pumps.
* Brahmin vivian dome satchel

* Title: My sweater says Hello or Good Morning in French and I love it. {lol - thank you google translate!}

Happy Monday!

Hi Maegan !

It's a funny coincidence this french "Bonjour". I'm trying to reach you to send you the french magazine Avantages. You are having a publication in it. We already exchange mails so you should have my mail adress.
Thanks !
Passe une bonne journée*

Ugh. Google translate hurts my heart sometimes.

In case you are interested. "Mon chandail dit bonjour en Francais et je l'aime." Is how you would say: "My sweater says hello in French and I love it.". You could also use "pull" instead of "chandail". Sadly google translate has you saying: "Hello, my sweater says 'in French' and I love it.".

In either case I think it is a super cute outfit. :)

I don't know if you like to read or not but I read this book that I think would be right up your alley. It's called Bringing Home the Birkin by Michael Tonello. It seems very you :)
Love your blog!

Anon: I think I bought an 8 {us} so it wouldn't be so tight. I'm normally a 6 but I had a feeling it would run small and I wanted to layer it :)

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out, but the title is slightly ...well, wrong.

In French, it's more common to say, "le pull" for sweater over the word you used (in fact, I've never seen your version." Plus, dire means "to say," so you need some sort of punctuation after that or it's grammatically incorrect. Saying, "Je m'aime," means "I love myself," in French, by the way!

(Sorry, I got that beaten into me. I took 4 years of French. Those reflexive verbs and ownership about killed me!)

I would have used:

Le pull dit, "Bonjour," et je l'aime.

Oh no I feel terrible for getting you into this debate. To clear the air... chandail is what is typically used in Canadian French. It is the classical way of saying it in France but may not be the 'new' way of saying it in France. The other option 'pull' may be more popular currently. I have asked around a few colleagues whose first language is French and they said chandail, pull or vest would all be appropriate translations depending on what level of slang is appropriate in the conversation. There are so many options :) Keep the fun posts coming. I know I especially love the hair tutorials and would love to see more of those.

Bonjour means hello, bon matin means good morning (not sure what type of French that first person is speaking :P)

I speak French (Canadian) and have never heard, 'Le pull', we always use chandail so that version may be a France term as the language, although 'the same' is apparently very different (and much more elegant (in France :)
