thrifted vintage yellow dress
Last week I posted a little DIY paper flowers inspiration and was inspired most by the first two photos... the flowers on the mirrors, and wanted to recreate something similar in Delilah's room at my mom's house. She has a few mirrors in her room that needed a little sprucing up and I thought this was a fun project we could both do together that she would enjoy for some time to come.

Needless to say, Delilah wasn't into this project as much as she was the sparkly glitter shoe DIY from last week. She liked it, but she was really more interested in gathering and rearranging the floral cutouts by color... ANNNNND JUMPING ON HER DAYBED, but that's a regular practice. It actually worked out okay though because I didn't want her near the hot glue part of the project. But even though she wasn't interested in being so much a part of the project, she loved the outcome nonetheless {and so does my mom ;}
Here's What You'll Need...

* Scissors & Pinking shears
* Construction paper and/or scrapbook sheets
* Hot glue gun
* Flower & Circle paper punches by Martha Stewart
* Glitter, craft pearls & gems {optional}
Steps...

* Punch out your shapes... {though not shown, I used 5 different punches}

* With your scissors, cut out large floral or petal shapes by folding your paper twice and cutting along the edges. From your largest flower, create similar patterns in various sizes, all smaller than the first.

Creating dimensional flowers...

* Cut your circles and circular flowers half-way down the center.

* Place glue on one side, overlap the other side pressing it into place & creating a conical shape.

* Overlap your conical flowers and glue them in place... create and glue outward {click here for a similar DIY}. Glue a flat circle to the bottom to give you a nice base.

* Add glue to the center and sprinkle glitter over it... or add pearls or gems to create your flower center {see below}.

* Create a handful of these styles in alternating colors, shapes, and patterns.

* Create pom flowers by cutting 1-1/2" x 8" strips with your pinking shears {or other floral edged scissors} and create a fine fringe with jagged edges. Tightly roll your paper and set with hot glue.

* Carefully pull each piece down until you've got a pom you like... create a handful of these styles in various colors.

* Overlap and glue in place your larger, hand-cut flowers... I added a conical flower as the center for dimension and glittered centers.

* Beginning with your largest flowers first, apply hot glue directly to your mirror {or frame, etc.} and press your flowers in place. I spaced my 3 largest at right, left, and center and filled in from there.
Voila!

Gorgeous - her, the room, the flowers, the mirror - all of it!! We did a similar thing with my daughters (who look slightly older) using cupcake liners to make the flowers and decorate a mirror - not nearly so sophisticated as yours, but we still had fun: http://partycraftsecrets.blogspot.com.au/2011/09/making-mermaid-mirror.html
thanks for sharing.
