Halloween Decorating Ideas – Interior / Exterior

halloween decor ideas

We’ve been a bit behind on the Halloween decor front this month because we’ve been so distracted by our house situation {we are in escrow, eek!}. My husband usually has boxes of king sized candy bars just waiting to hand out on Halloween to all the kiddos but he hasn’t even gotten them yet. This is the first year we’re not having our annual Halloween party as well, so without that motivation, the decorating has been on the back burner. But better late than never, right? What I do find when decorating for Halloween, is that I already tend to lean towards randomly weirdly-creepy pieces that I just pull from other areas of the house and make even more creepy. No, I don’t keep skeletons around on the regular, but the face vase does have a permanent home in a favorite little nook of our house.

As you may well know, LeRoy is my partner in crime, so he ended up in quite a few photos.

* My 2010 Haunted Tabletop remains a favorite! This year’s is rather tame.

I used: My easy DIY Fall Tablecloth with a creepy shredded cloth as my table runner.

I added the spiders after I shot the photos… oops.

My Eames House Bird always makes my Halloween decor.

My creepy skeleton, which usually rests in the fireplace or the bathtub {I actually have 2 full skeleton bones sets}, found a new home in a large vase this year… with a few creepy eyeballs & tiny rats to boot.

One side of our yard literally has grass on it for 3 months tops and then it dies… and is just dirt and weeds. I normally hate it except for the month of October when it makes the perfect backdrop for my creepy graveyard…

It should be known that we have not one pumpkin yet… But pumpkins aren’t spooky 😉 I like to get them at the end of October so I can use them through November for Thanksgiving.

Spoooooooky….

I like how most of your Halloween decorations are classy, and artistic enough to leave up year round. Especially that little hand thing. And where on earth did you find that spooky little black dog you put up outside!? Creeepy. Just kidding, he’s adorable. 🙂 At any rate, thanks for sharing, you gave me a lot of great ideas.

oh wow! Your decor is FANTASTIC! As a kid I’d have been terrified walking past your yard with the gravestones and hanging head! And inside is so classy scary.
    Great job!!

    Hi Maegan,

This is the first time ever that I comment on a blog. I just really love yours. I started reading it a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with all your DIY tutorials. Thank you for your posts.

I live in Sweden and halloween is not as big as it is in the US, but it’s starting to grow. This year I figured I might decorate my home for the first time, and your post just inspired me even more.

    Again thank you! 🙂

    Love,
    Dina.

I had just found your blog around Halloween last year (and have been loving it since, I might add) and remember how impressed I was with your Halloween preparations and your party, and the awesome costumes you guys pulled together. This year’s decorations look excellent too. That vase is really cool.

I love these decorations! I like that you don’t stick to a traditional theme with pumpkins and ghosts and instead go for a spooky (almost… can I say glamorous) approach to Halloween.
