Pretty Pretty La Perla
Spring/Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

How gorgeous are these photos from the La Perla Spring/Summer Lingerie and Swimwear Collection ad campaign with model Jeisa Chiminazzo? I love the retro 50's and 60's styling from the the big bee hives to the sultry cat eyes and right down to the location. Just gorgeous! Here are a few of my favorites, though you can see the entire ad campaign here and shop the La Perla collections here.

Oh Summer, I love you

Modern Declaration LoVE

I'm sure I found Modern Declaration via Pinterest... although it really could have been via any social media source, but Pinterest is known for the prettiest of images, so I'm just assuming.

Daun Curry is the gorgeous and talented designer behind Modern Declaration and I have just fallen in love with her work. Since stumbling across the website a few months ago, I've religiously checked it along with her blog for beautiful inspiration... which I'm sure I've pinned and repinned time and time again.

But what I found most interesting is that she has a number of items, furniture and decorative, that are for sale as well as her interior services. The products are not priced, so I'm not sure if they are only available with her design services or if they can be purchased separately, as she often uses her pieces in her designs - - however I know they must be extremely pricey just by looking at them. But really, they are stunning.

You can view all of the Modern Declaration Products here.

Look through her gorgeous interiors too: Residential Projects and Commercial Projects

Seriously, I am just drooling over these pieces. And I love the spaces as well, though they are very feminine... but if you take the pieces out of the rooms, each is really very versatile and so stunningly gorgeous.

Which is your favorite?

Easy DIY Anklestrap Ballet Flats

These are one of two pairs of ballet flats in my closet... the other pair are actual ballet slippers. It's not that I don't like them, I do, but I have the hardest time finding a pair that not only fit my feet correctly, but that stay on and that I can actually walk in. I know it sounds crazy but for instance, I love these little silk printed flats from J Crew, but the heel slips off when I walk and then smashes under my heel {see photo below}...

So my solution? Add a simple, but pretty, little elastic ankle strap. Here's how I did it...

What You'll Need...

* Ballet flats in fabric or thin leather... anything you can get a needle through easily.
* Elastic. I used a thin elastic, with a pretty detail because it matched the piping and bow of these particular flats however, a larger elastic would be cute as well. Let your shoes be your guide and follow their style. Look for a softer elastic with a detail or a pretty "fancy" elastic trim.
* Needle/Thread/Scissors

Steps...

* Simply measure out how much elastic you will need to fit around your ankle snugly but without squeezing and pinching your skin. Measure about a half an inch extra on each side.

* Overlap your 1/2" extra elastic by creating a circle and hand-stitch it to the heel of your shoe. This will work best on a shoe with black piping or something similar, as it will completely conceal all of your stitches.

NOTE: You may also {and instead} choose to create a loop with any fabric or leather that sticks up from the heel of your shoe and run a ribbon or lace or buckled piece through it and around your ankle.

Voila!

Have Fun!

Fear of Walking on the Mines I'd Laid

What I'm Wearing
* Provenance Embellishment tunic c/o Jigsaw London
* Tilda mid-rise straight lucy in the sky jeans c/o Hudson Jeans {they're much more of a cropped style on the website and I actually like them long like I'm wearing here. I'm not sure if it's a photo glitch or I was sent a really random and really long pair, but I love them. I find Hudson jeans to be quite flattering AND comfortable and not just because they gift them to me.}
* Vintage Matisse turquoise necklace {there's very cool green one for sale here that I'm tempted to buy} worn with Jami Rodriguez chain & turquoise gem necklace
* Various bangles, vintage and new, branch bangles, vintage Hermes double wrap bracelet
* Paul Smith Westburne sunglasses from GILT
* Kooba Sabrina handbag with rose gold hardware c/o Kooba
* Charles Jourdan anklestrap sandals in white/snake

* Hair: curled with hot rollers

* Title: lyrics from Sting "Fortress Around Your Heart"

In the midst of photographing models for my book and finishing my re-write for an early next week deadline, well, today is Memorial Day. A day to remember... but for many, simply a day off of work. There are many bonuses working for yourself, but there are many sacrifices you make as well {though nothing like the sacrifices of soldiers}. I am not comparing the two... but for instance, you never really get a day off, even on the weekends. And while it's all 100% worth it, there is definitely something to be said for returning home from a days work knowing you've done your job and have left it behind at the office to relax the evening away. The same cannot be said when it's yours... because you never leave it at the office. You never stop thinking about it. So no, I really shouldn't take time off today, but I must. We've been invited to mingle and relax and BBQ and enjoy ourselves for the afternoon and honestly, it will be a nice little break. I hope you are all having a wonderful day off... remembering all the brave men and women we've lost to war {even though it's rather depressing really}.

Happy Memorial MonDay!

Tyree Callahan's Chromatic Typewriter

Another random SumbleUpon the other day led me to this really brilliant idea by artist Tyree Callahan who transformed a 1937 typewriter into not only a piece of art in and of itself, but a machine that creates beautiful art as well. He replaced the letters and keys with color pads, which I originally though were pastels and used hued labels to match.

I Pinned it the other day, but just haven't gotten it out of my head. It's really such a unique idea that I haven't seen before. Oh how I would love to create something with it. I wonder how long it will take for a similar product to be on the market to buy?

You can go to Tyree Callahan's Facebook page and blog for more info.
