I love a great console table with a pair of dueling lamps at either end. It must be the symmetry of the look that is so pleasing to my visual eye. In fact, I was hoping to get the look behind our new sectional sofa on the window side, but low and behold, I don't have an outlet in the middle of my living room floor. Bummer. The upside is that the new sofa is quite larger and had to be pushed back toward the window further than I had originally thought and has left only enough space to walk freely behind it. Which I actually like. Mostly because I tend to be clumsy on occasion.
The downside is that the stair wall {see this post for reference} is somehow more pronounced {and looks completely bare} with the new couch in the space. Another upside? I decided to put the console table {well, more similar to shelves I suppose -see the top of it behind our old couch here} on that wall. We moved the piece of furniture, which fit the space perfectly, and then I immediately ran upstairs to grab my lamps. Not a second after setting them onto the surface did I realize that there is not an outlet to plug them in behind it. Really? So there goes that idea.
Without lamps as my starting point to my decorating process, and without the ginormously amazing blue coral I haven't stopped thinking about since the other day when I saw it, and even after grabbing every single item I thought would work on the space, I felt a bit lost. So I took to the internet for a little console {consoling} and decor inspiration. And while some of the photos I chose still do incorporate lamps, I was hoping they'd at least ignite a light bulb of an idea of a new place to begin with.
Mirrors and art or photographs and even coffee table books seem to be a nice starting point... but I'm also thinking large scale lanterns or candles and candle holders may do the trick {as in tricking my eye into thinking I get to have dueling lamps} as well as bring in a light source. So here are a few {or a lot} of my favorite console stylings from around the web.

Maybe by next week I will have figured it out and can post some photos of it.

This could possibly be an option. Make the lamps cordless and battery powered.
I pinned this link a while ago, because I thought it was such a good idea! http://www.viewalongtheway.com/2012/08/lamp-hack-how-to-make-any-lamp-cordless/
Great inspirational photos! I too, think you should make your lamp idea work. It looks so good!
The Occasional Indulgence
Hate when something like outlets interfere with a room idea! I do love the idea of some large candles and holders though.

Giant duel candle holders would be lovely.
My first thought was to use cordless/battery powered lamps. Or large flameless pillar candles, as a poster mentioned.
Loving all the inspiration here! I would literally live in any of these spaces!
Oh that's nice, I am just looking to redecorate mine!
I live in the tropical part of Bolivia and my home has a lot of wood in it.
So I 'd like to combine it with modern things. Let's see if I find some nice ideas here..
