How Great is This? Patterned Paint Rollers? Yes Please!

paint rollers, patterned painted wallpaper look

I just happened upon the cutest and most clever decorating idea from The Painted House yesterday and I had to share. Maybe you've seen these patterned paint rollers already but the idea is new to me... though apparently, they've been used in Romania for the last 100 years as an alternative to wallpaper. But you can use them on fabric and paper {think wrapping paper} as well!

I think it's such a fun way to add character or importance to a wall or old piece of furniture with very little cost. I haven't fallen hard for any of the prints available at the moment... though they are great, I'm awaiting Spring's newest designs before committing. But I'm sincerely in love...

* SHOP : The Painted House {Applicators are $16.13 and designs are about $24}

But is it any easier than wallpaper? I mean, it seems to be a lot more cost effective and if you have the patience for applying wallpaper {which I do not} you definitely have the patience for this. I fear the perfectionist in me will be cursing uneven lines and unmatched patterns, but the little instructional video {below} makes it look pretty darn easy {& they offer a step by step PDF guide as well}. So I think I'm pretty much sold.

I have never seen this before and now I'm thinking I need it for my new house. It would look stunning on my purple accent wall. I'm very curious if it's as easy as it looks though. I think the perfectionist in me will never be please since I'll know where every little mistake is. Still might try it though :)

What a fan-tastic idea! Maybe a fabric DIY? (For re-cushioning chairs, etc.) Or print scarf DIY? (Using these applicators.) Or T-shirt embellishments, etc. I'm sure you will think of a multitude of ideas. Have a great weekend, Sunshine!

I'm surprised that people don't know about patterned rollers. They (the people) must be VERY young!! These rollers used to be popular when I was a child (in the 1970s), especially in country and small-town houses. They were used only on the walls though, often just as a border (my granny had it in her kitchen). The ones I've seen were not as lovely as this one, though.

She has definitely done that a few times before. I like the end result - it's lovely. I haven't tried wallpapering though I saw my parents do it growing up. I've used a regular paint roller but there I was able to go back and forth over it and wasn't trying to do something exactly on one pass. Maybe I'll try it sometime, but If I do I might do the first attempts on some scrap or in a closet. Maybe the secret is partly in that applicator. It looks like it might even out the amount that gets put on the print rollers.
