Winning in Winter White // #TargetStyle

black and white with camel coat

Target and Mode Media have challenged me to pull together a few winter white looks to encourage and inspired you to keep your whites in mind for the chilly seasons ahead.

We all know that wearing white after Labor Day is completely acceptable these days, but winter white has always been a “fashion do” due to its warmer, creamier, ivory hue, and it’s a fun option to keep in mind for seasonal dressing and holiday outfits.

Texture is key when pulling winter white ensembles together. Faux fur, cashmere, wool, angora, corduroy and cozy knits are easy fabrics to start with because they already have that wintery feeling you just want to wrap yourself up in.

Though totally appropriate, wearing white jeans in the winter can be tricky because they feel so light and summery. Pairing this bright shade with black immediately creates a high contrast, graphic look that’s classic and works for any season. Adding gray, navy, burgundy, or camel to a white base or high contrast look are fantastic options to enhance a wintery outfit, while mixing bright red and/or green may feel a little Santa and his elves near the holidays.

Classic Black and White…

white jeans for winter

I love a great black and white outfit, and because it’s still warmer on the west coast, a little bare ankle and wrist action is entirely appropriate. My Skinny Jeans by Mossimo are a crisp bright white vs winter white, but pairing them with this black and white striped sweater layered over a lace-trimmed camisole adds depth of texture that works for fall and spring. My black scarf, black cross body bag, and black lace up oxfords, balance out the look.

A poppy white manicure with metallic accents gives this bold summer color a wintery vibe that’s perfect for the holidays. Add gold to every nail instead of just a few to mute this bright mani even more.

Dress your look up a bit by adding Crystal Ball earrings and jewelry, and a soft feminine updo. For a preppier look, layer your sweater over a crisp white button down shirt.

Change Your Look with A Coat…

winter white+black+camel

While gray, burgundy, teal, and navy coats would have worked splendidly with this look, I love the way my classic camel coat warms up my high contrast outfit. I turned my cross body bag into a clutch by tucking the strap inside and could have easily swapped my lace ups for heels or boots for a more dressed up look.

I really love the tiny lace detail peeking out under my sweater. It not only adds length and proportion, it’s a great way to add more femininity to a masculine look in a completely subtle way {since the white lace blends with my white jeans}.

Cozy in Winter Whites…

Head-to-toe winter white looks that are layered in cozy textures and finished with tall boots make me feel a bit like snow bunny, and that’s always fun and flirty. By pairing a chunky knit sweater with your white jeans and throwing on a faux fur vest and snow boots, you’re bound to look like you just left the slopes.

More Wintery White Looks for Inspo…

Alternately, choosing ONE winter white item, like a fluffy faux fur coat, vest, or sweater to be your focal point may be the simplest way to ease into white for winter. Pair it with skinny denim and boots and you’ve got yourself an easy go-to outfit to wear from fall all the way through spring.

My favorite winter white focal point item is a vintage skirt my mom made in the ’70s. It’s shredded and torn now, but I love the way it hangs and is surprisingly versatile. It’s a bit more dramatic than my everyday white jeans look, but so much fun to wear!
