When You Suddenly Want to Cut Bangs

hair+bangs+fringe

Every now and again i think about cutting my bangs, as you probably do if you are a woman and don’t have bangs. Because that’s what we do, right?

I love the idea of bangs but then I always remember the upkeep and the maintenance and the styling and the way the wind blows them straight up when you walk into it and that sometimes they make your forehead break out and the way blonde bangs look singed at the ends sometimes and the way it sucks so bad when you’re growing them out… and all of those things deter me from doing it every single time.

But I’m bored with my hair and it’s been the same for almost a decade now and I’m just looking for a new look. I’m feeling a bit freer lately and with emotional change always comes a hair change, right? So I guess I’ve been stuck for nearly a decade too, but I’m feeling less sticky now and ready for a new look. It’s just hair, anyway, and I always thought when I “got older” I’d cut my bangs to disguise the lines on my forehead a little bit and add softness to my face. And as I see these lines set in more deeply each day and I ponder Botox or fillers to “fix my face” I remember that those lines are the sum of my experiences and they’re all mine… AND THAT IT’S POISON, so that freaks me out.

So yeah, I’m thinking about bangs, or fringe as you adorable girls from the UK say 😉 and these are some of my favorite fringy banging looks below.. and yes, most of them are blonde because I am blonde and generally I think brunettes look better with bangs, so my inspiration looks are kind of specific. Or not.

I think you should go for it.. even cut your hair short if you’re feeling ready for a change. I cut mine, after having long hair for over a decade (and not liking it anymore, but thinking I would look like a pin head if I went short) and I love it! Yes, the maintenance is more, but since it’s short, it’s much quicker to maintain.

I know that love/hate thing with bangs. I’ve had them and grown them out when I got of them, and then I almost went back again but decided not to. I have curly hair and bangs are tricky to pull off. They always look good when I straighten it, but when I wear it curly, they have to be the right length – too short and they curl up and look ridiculous, too long and they hang in my eyes constantly!

I would say no, don´t do that. I was blonde few years ago….a blonde with bangs and it was nerve wracking! My hair is not naturally straight and gets easily curly (rain, wind, humidity), so everyday I woke up with a mess on my head. I was tired of straightening my bangs every single day,I was unable to do a simple ponytail……as you said, the maintenance and styling is pretty time consuming and annoying, if you don´t have a perfect super smooth and straight hair. 🙂

Do it! I got bangs cut last spring and I continually get compliments, major feel good moments when least expected! I am a natural red head and while occasionally the ends look a little frazzed, 99% of the time I’m thrilled with them. They key is a good stylist to help you find the right type of fringe. Have fun choosing!

I say do it! I just cut mine recently after contemplating for a while and I love them. It is a bit more work, but not too much. Also if you don’t want to always wear them down you can style them to the side, like the women in Sam Smith’s “Not the Only One” video. Love that look! <3
