* Title: Sia ‘Never Give Up’I’ve battled demons that won’t let me sleep… Called to the sea but she abandoned me… I’m haunted by the distant past… But I won’t never give up, no, never give up, no, no… I’ll find my way, find my way home, oh, oh, oh

Last night I was feeling a little lonely, sitting in my house saddened by the fact that it was empty and I picked up my favorite book, The Alchemist (which I keep sitting out at all times) and randomly opened a page that read “Listen to your heart. It knows all things, because it came from the Soul of the World, and it will one day return there …You will never be able to escape your heart. So it’s better to listen to what it has to say… because you will never again be able to keep it quiet. Even if you pretend to have not heard what it tells you, it will always be there inside you, repeating to you what you’re thinking about life and the world.”

As I thought about it more, I wondered how to really know the difference between what our hearts truly desire vs what our minds tell us and how much our egos get in the way of what will ultimately make us happy?

Don’t let your mind get in the way of your heart.

It’s true though, that when we don’t follow our hearts, there seems to be a constant nagging within us to go in a different direction. Our hearts ache when we aren’t true to them. In life, in love, in work, in anything really, and if we are aligned with our intuition and really listen honestly, we know the truth… but It seems to me, that the only difference between knowing if we are truly following our hearts vs our minds, is in retrospect, when we think we want something, once we get it, we aren’t filled with the joy we thought would come when we got it. Alternatively, oftentimes something unexpected arrives in our lives which brings us happiness, and we wonder why we never considered it before.

The truth is, that we only ever want something because we think it’s going to make us happy, and when it doesn’t, we search for something new to fill the void. But when we follow our hearts, there is happiness in the journey, in the ups and in the downs, and peace and contentment in the “having” it as well.

As I was lost in thought about it, I was going to tweet something like “Listen to your heart, it knows all things”…and then I thought it was a little cheesy so I didn’t.

But I woke up this morning and opened my meditation app, clicked on Day 8 – What do I Want? and the centering thought was My heart knows the answer… and I couldn’t help but smile, as if the universe was trying to tell me something.

I read on …Today we let our hearts lead the way, for all of the answers we seek live within – all we have to do is listen.

…and now I have Roxette stuck in my head for eternity 😉
